Chapter 2: A Blast from the Past
Ava's eyes locked onto Liam's, and for a moment, she forgot all about Julian, the argument, and the wedding. All she could think about was the past, and the memories that came flooding back.
Liam's smile faltered for a moment as he took in Ava's expression. "Ava, it's great to see you," he said, his voice warm and genuine.
Julian's eyes narrowed slightly as he took in Liam's presence. "Can I help you?" he asked, his tone polite but cool.
Liam's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled again. "I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd drop by to say hello."
Ava could sense the tension in the air, and she knew she had to do something to diffuse it. "Liam, come on in," she said, stepping aside to let him enter.
As Liam walked into the living room, Ava couldn't help but notice the way he moved with a quiet confidence. It was a quality that had always drawn her to him, even back in art school.
Julian's eyes flicked to Ava, and she could sense his disapproval. "So, Liam, what brings you to town?" Julian asked, his tone still cool.
Liam shrugged. "Just passing through. I'm on my way to a gig in LA."
Ava's eyes lit up. "You're still playing music?"
Liam nodded. "Yeah, I am. I've been touring with my band for a while now."
As they chatted, Ava couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over her. She had always loved Liam's music, and the way he could make her feel with just a few chords.
But as she glanced over at Julian, she knew she had to be careful. She didn't want to give him the wrong idea, or make him feel like she was still hung up on Liam.
"So, Liam, how long are you in town for?" Ava asked, trying to sound casual.
Liam shrugged. "Just a day or two. I've got a show tonight, and then I'm heading out to LA tomorrow."
Ava nodded. "Well, it's great to see you. We should catch up sometime."
Liam smiled. "Definitely. It's been too long, Ava."
As Liam turned to leave, Ava felt a pang of sadness. She had missed him, and it was clear that he had missed her too.
But as she watched him walk out the door, Ava knew she had to be careful. She was engaged to Julian, and she couldn't let her feelings for Liam get in the way.
Or could she?
