Chapter 10
"A job... I need a job to live," Luciana explained. "You of all people should know I can't keep sitting at home all day."
"Figured you would say that, so I took it upon myself to make sure you have everything you need. We don't want you going down the tunnel of depression again," Aria revealed.
"You found one?" Luciana probed.
"Yes, Luci!" Aria exclaimed. "I may have pulled a few strings to get the information I needed, but it is up to you to secure the job."
"Oh, my goodness!" Luci screamed, her eyes twinkling like the stars in the sky.
"Because you are just coming out into the world again, I could have asked you to replace me in my current workplace and go for this big shot interview," Aria paused. She tried to assess Luci's expression before continuing. "But you need this change, and there is nowhere better than for you to apply to this company."
"What is so special about them?" Luci wondered. She finds it odd that Aria placed such a company in a highly esteemed position.
"Not only do they pay a substantial amount every month, but they also have what you need to be distracted from this kind of life. If you get the job, you would be on your toes always and won't have the time to think about locking yourself up," Aria clarified.
"You know I can't simply forget about her just because I changed, right?"
"Of course, I know. But for now, you don't need to think about that. All you need right now is to make yourself happy," Aria insisted.
"Make myself happy," Luci repeated as if the words sounded foreign to her ears.
Aria sighed and leaned forward to cup Luci's cheek. “I will always tell you this. She would never want you to be unhappy, and the fastest way to get her back is to be happy.”
"That way, you will think things through and make the right decision."
Luciana stared at her, her eyes filling up again. "I have been crying so much lately," she sniffed.
"Then make sure you don't cry again," Aria patted her back lovingly.
"I won't," Luci assured her with a smile.

7 A.M. THE NEXT DAY
I hope you remembered everything I told you last night?" Aria adjusted Luciana's dress as she nodded affirmatively. "Be sure to make me proud."
"You sound like a mother right now," Luci rolled her eyes at her.
"As long as you get the job, I don't mind sounding like a father, too."
A smile graced Luciana's lip as she moved to the mirror to check herself out. "I still can't believe this is me," she gushed, staring at her reflection.
Rather than its usual ponytail style, Aria had brushed back her dark chocolate tresses, so they fell over her shoulders and framed her round face. Her makeup was to the bare minimum, with a dark red shade of lipstick highlighting her bow-shaped lip.
"Who else would it be then, if it isn't my hot girlfriend?" Aria prattled. “I picked that yellow blouse to highlight your golden-brown eyes on purpose, the goal is to look hotter than any other girls there. That will be a bonus point in helping you get the job.”
"I am ready," Luci announced, stepping away from the mirror.
"Let's go eat, I already set the table," entwining their arms, the two friends sashayed out of the room, beaming with so much happiness.
"Did you go over the questions I gave you?" Aria asked the moment they settled down at the table.
"I did, but I don't think they are necessary," Luci answered.
"Why?" Aria raised her head from the food she was dishing and looked at her friend.
"For a start, your company is small compared to the De Rosso own, and according to you, your boss just established his company and you are the second secretary he'd employed since he started, so he doesn't have a lot of years experience. But a conglomerate like the De Rosso will have years of experience, so they would ask questions that only the best can answer."
"Are you trying to discourage yourself here? Don't tell me you are having cold feet and you want to back out," Aria narrowed her eyes at Luci.
"No! That is not what I meant," she swallowed the morsel in her mouth. "I'm just trying to say the questions you gave me are not necessary. I'll try my best, but I can't promise to be selected," she retorted.
"Oh, my love!" Aria spouted. "I am not asking you to make sure you get employed, just make sure you stay true to yourself.
"Now get up, we have to go," she added, pushing up to her feet.
Luciana hastily downed two more spoonfuls of timballo and a sip of coffee before grabbing a bottle of water on her way out and gurgling it down to wash down her breakfast.
As soon as Aria closed the door, they flagged down a taxi. She attempted to relax her anxiety the entire voyage, but she could not do that. For the first time since she had barricaded herself in, she was emerging into the outside world, and she did not know what to do.
"I'm going to drop here. I'll see you back at home, okay?" She was startled out of her reverie by Aria's voice, and when she peered out the window, she saw they had already arrived at Aria's place of work.
"I will see you later," Luciana smiled, trying to suppress her anxiety. "Wish me luck."
"Good luck," Aria smiled, pulled her into a hug and whispered 'You've got this' into her ear before getting out of the taxi.
She waved at Luciana as she exited the taxi and crossed the street. As the motorist re-entered the road, Luci sighed.

FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER
The taxi stops in front of a glass tower in grey colour.
"We are here, ma'am," the driver informed Luciana, who has only been tense since getting into the car.
The gorgeous building in front of her left her awestruck as she paid his price and got out of the car. The De Rosso Empire, which houses the most influential family in Marvolia and acts as its headquarters, has around 50 floors, according to what she had read about it.
Luci almost stopped the car when she felt conscious of herself and asked the driver to take her back. She took a deep breath and wiped her sweaty hand on her skirt.
"This is what you desire, Luciana," she said to herself. "A fresh change, a new chance and a new you, so stop being a chicken and get in."
She continually inhaled deeply, said the motivating words in her thoughts, and then entered the company.
