Chapter 9 “I have found her,” he announced to the person at the other end of the call. “Get me every information you can find about her and send it to my email address in the next twenty-four hours,” a calm female voice instructed. "Yes ma'am," he dropped the call and walked out of the ice cream shop. ********** 2 P.M. DE ROSSO EMPIRE “What did he say?” Ariana asked, staring at her mother-in-law with curiosity. Emilia dropped the call and twirled around in her seat. She couldn't contain her joy at the news she had just received and it could be seen on her face. “He has found a suitable candidate. He should send me her details soon.” She smiled at the thought of seeing the lucky lady. “How will you tell Salvatore?” Ariana asked. She could already picture the outburst and drama that would happen once he learned of their plan. “That will be handled, trust me,” Emilia's smile widened even more. “It is done. I have put up the vacancy for the post of new PA and secretary,” Ariana mentioned out of the blue, breaking the silence that was descending into the room. “I believe we will have a lot of candidates tomorrow then," Emilia frowned. “Tell Giovanni to put the guards in place. Anyone who misbehaves should be escorted outside and never allowed into my company.” Ariana nodded her head and picked up her phone to carry out the order when Emilia stopped her. "Get your things ready. We are going home in the next ten minutes." "Okay, I'll have to let Giovanni know he will have to eat lunch by himself," Ariana dialled her fiancé's number and placed the phone on her ear. She spoke with him for a few minutes, smiling and blushing throughout, before putting down the phone. She packed her bag and Emilia's bag and arranged both their desks before walking out of the office. "Ma'am," the driver greeted her as she dropped her bag in her car. "The chairwoman would be down at any minute, take her straight home and if she asked after me, tell her I went to the grocery store to get some things, okay?" The driver bowed his head and took Emilia's bag from her. Ariana got into her car and her driver pulled away from the driveway and hit the road to the grocery store. Halfway through, Ariana's phone beeped and she turned it on to see she had gotten two texts. One was from Emilia, instructing her to get some vegetables as well and the other was from Gio. He sent her a flying kiss. She replied with a heart emoji and a picture of her early morning face. Some guys love a woman's clean-up face, but Gio loves to see her face early in the morning. When she asked him why, he told her that was the only time she was stripped bare for him to see her, and since then, she decided not to wear makeup anymore. ****** TWO HOURS LATER... “Are you ready to eat your food, mother?” Ariana asked, peeping out of the kitchen. “Yes dear, set the table," Emilia answered from the couch she was sitting on. Ariana plates the food and places it on two different trays, adding two bottles of juice to it, she stepped out of the kitchen and headed to the dining room. “I made your favourite food, linguine and Bistecca Alla Fiorentina.” “That is wonderful dear, thank you,” Emilia smiled as she picked up her fork and dug in. “I wish Salvatore would just make me happy and get married to a good woman like you, so I can have two wonderful daughters-in-law," she sighed. “I'm sure one day he will change and settle down. For now, let's just try our best to help him curb his reckless behaviour,” Ariana consoled her. “What is so wrong with wanting the best for my son? What have I done wrong by asking him to work in his father’s company?” Emilia lamented. “You have done nothing wrong, mother. It is Salvatore who fails to see the love you have for him and I am sure he will understand that very soon.” “You are right,” Emilia stared at Ariana with affectionate eyes “I'm glad my Giovanni brought you into the family. I wonder what would have become of him if he had fallen in love with one of those gold-digging ladies.” “Mom,” Ariana blushed. “It is true, I am glad he didn't end up with that sleazy b***h who was only after his fame." “Giovanni was in love with her, remember. The things I went through in the name of love," Ariana picked up her spoon and dug into her food. "I am just glad everything didn't end up in the trash." Emilia pulled Ariana's hand in hers and squeezed it. "I am also happy you get to be with him in the end," she smiled at her. "Now don't let us dwell on the past, we have a busy day ahead of us tomorrow and we will need to sleep early." Ariana shook her head with a smile, she looked down at her plate and continued to eat in silence. ********** 8 P.M. LUCIANA’S HOUSE "Now, you look just like I have always imagined you'd be. Beautiful, poise and elegant," Aria cooed. "Are those qualities for me?" Shades of pink tinted Luciana's cheek at once. "I won't hesitate to have you all to myself if I am a man," Aria batted her eyes at Luciana as she placed a kiss on her hand. "Eww," Luciana pulled her hand away and wiped it against the dress she was wearing, causing Aria to laugh at her. "We've bought clothes and changed everything in the house just to bring a liveliness to it but you are forgetting one tiny detail." "And that is?" Aria narrowed her eyes at her. "A job... I need a job to be able to live," Luciana elucidated. "I can't keep sitting at home all day."
