Scarlett kept her eyes glued to her holoscreen but didn't really see the glowing lines of programming code. Neither did she see the blinking speech-bubble icon indicating an incoming message from Jules. Instead, she stared through the floating images into a distant nothingness.
In her mind, Scarlett played out the events from the conference center over and over. Each time she chose a different reaction, and each time it ended with Sven dead. Most of the time she died, too. She did this in the hopes of reaffirming her decision to fight back, her decision to let the old Scarlett step back into the life of the new Scarlett.
