Enrollment : The Guild vs. Hunter.
The scene begins with Hunter "Our Protagonist" entering the Guild Hall. There are many tables to the left of the door, there are a few adventurers seated there eating and drinking booze. They were cackling up a storm and having a blast, not minding anyone until the one facing the door grew silent. Directly in front of the door was the receptionist area. It was swamped with paper. The receptionist behind the counter is a thin blonde-haired woman. She is not facing the door when Hunter walks in and is franticly trying to grasp the papers as they clatter to the floor. As she bends over to pick up the papers that toppled on the floor, the adventurer facing the door starts to get the attention of his pals and our scene begins... Hunter, "Miss.. Could you help me? I'm looking to sign on as an adventurer and don't quite know where to start." The receptionist is startled and fumbles the papers in her hands. Finally, her eyes land on Hunter. She stops fumbling with the papers and is struck with awe. Receptionist, "Y - Yes sir..? Excuse me... Are you blind?... And how old are you? I apologize, I didn't mean to be rude.." At the same time that the Receptionist is being startled and speaking, the adventurers to the left start to clamor and converse among themselves. As the Receptionist finishes speaking, the largest of the adventurers and obviously the leader of the party that was seated eating, stands up. Adventurer, "Yeah BOY! This is no place for you. You need to run along home to your mother." Hunter, "There are no age restrictions if I remember correctly. Nor is there a rule that states adventurers can't be blind. I only have to prove that I'm capable. If you allow, are there any test I can take to prove my competency .?" Hunter started approaching the receptionist's counter. He stops just shy of the counter, roughly an arm's length, without touching anything for reference. His walking cane was folded in his hand as he had folded it while the receptionist and adventurer were speaking. This shocked the receptionist slightly. Meanwhile, the adventurer is giving the back of Hunter's head the 1000 yard stare. Hunter removes his hood, revealing his long silver hair, a tattered crimson eye cloth wrapped around his eyes. Hunter waits patiently while the Receptionist picks up her jaw, and the adventurers behind him clamor with spitefulness. "Ms. to answer your questions more thoroughly, yes I am very much blind, and I am 15 years old.", says Hunter, "I came to register as an adventurer to earn money. I do not intend to cause trouble." At that moment, the Adventurer that stood up started moving towards me. He seems quite angered by the statement I just made. He gets up behind me and begins his badgering. "Hey boy, I know you heard me. This is no place for a runt like you.", says the Adventurer, "Do I need to show you what it means to be an adventurer?" That struck a nerve with me. This muscle-bound dumbass thinks its all about power and destructive force. Little does he know that won't help him against me. "If that's the entry requirement, sure I will spar you. ", says Hunter. "Fine, follow me out to the battleground. It's located directly behind the Guild Hall.", says the Adventurer with a staunchy and snotty sneer. As we are making our way out to the battlegrounds, I can feel people following. The three other adventurers with him from before, the receptionist, and 5 other people I have yet to speak to. One of those 5 is considerably strong. I feel her aura flowing around me like a tidal wave of green. It is so harmonious compared to the rest. It isn't rigid and pulsating like the adventurer that I'm about to fight. She must have intense magic control for it to be smoother than silk. Glad she isn't my opponent. "We are here.", says the adventurer as he stops in the middle of the battlefield. "Liliana, Guild Master, would you mind barricading us in here with your barrier?" "Sure, but Remember Gut, Don't KILL him.", says Liliana with a stern demeanor. "I do not want the paper work." The battlefield is just the back yard behind the Guild hall. The barrier encompasses most of the back lot of which doesn't have tables and seating areas, there are a couple of trees and a fountain within the barrier. There are people watching from afar other than those that accompanied us from inside. So should I lose? No.! I refuse. "Gut was it? I apologize if this doesn't go the way you imagined it would. I won't be losing to you.", says Hunter as he reaches for his Katana. The katana that Hunter carries uses to belonged to his father, it was left to him after his father passed away. This sword was said to be passed down from many generations of Hunter's family. It's Hamon is like that of the ocean tides rising and falling, waves swirling before coming back down. "That's what you think runt!", snarls Gut. "I'll show you how adventurers fight!" The battle begins. Hunter, whom everyone thought to be weak and blind, was about to be a major upset. First Gut charges, wielding his two-handed broadsword in just one of his hands. He swings the blade as if he were trying to chop down a tree. Hunter, on the other hand, had yet to move or react to Gut's attack. "You're going to die kid!", screams one of the on-lookers, "Dodge! Hurry!" screamed another. "To LATE!" says Gut with a sinister sneer, "See you in the after life." In that instant just before Gut made contact, Hunter vanished. Its like he wasn't there to begin with at all. But how could this be, you ask? It's one of the many special magics that Hunter has and will acquire along his journey. This magic is called Swift. It is not teleportation, per say, more like instant movement within a certain distance. Or more precicly allows Hunter to 'Slow' his surroundings and boosting his speed with magic creates a teleportation-esk feel for his enemy. "Swift..", chants Hunter as he vanishes, "Say goodnight Gut." When everyone had realized what had happened the battle was already over. Hunter never drew his katana. Instead he used its Saya (or scabbard). The Guild master, Liliana, quickly releases the barrier thinking that Gut has been killed. She goes to check his body and to her surprise finds him alive and barely injured. Gut was unconscious from a single impact to the back of the neck. "Don't worry, he should wake up in a few hours." says Hunter, "So, did I pass?" The yard was quiet, everyone was astonished. Most couldn't follow what happened. The few that could didn't understand what they saw and how it was possible. The guild master, who was still astonished beyond belief, waved for a few guild members to come over and grab Gut and take him to his room in the Guild Hall and she stood up from where she had hunched over to aid Gut. "Hunter, you said, right? Follow me to my office. I need to ask you some questions before you enroll as an adventurer here." The adventurers disperse. Hunter and Liliana make their way to her office. The receptionist who greeted Hunter originally when he entered the guild hall lingered behind them all the way to the office and stood by the door while the guild master and Hunter talked. Inside the office there were many books and bookshelves lining both walls, the desk is nice cherry wood , and there were two chairs as well as Liliana's chair. The office was quiet, Liliana went over to one of the book shelves and slid the bottom door open, revealing a single malt scotch and glasses. "Would you like a drink? I think I need a drink after that display.", says Liliana while chilling the bottle of scotch using her ice magic. "No thanks, I am not quite old enough to drink. So what would you like to ask me?", says Hunter, sitting in the chair with his katana in hand. "Fine. All work and no play. How old are you?" says Liliana. The room grew silent, Liliana had finished pouring her drink at this point, she was now sitting on the desk in front of Hunter. She is wearing a dress so she is sitting with her legs crossed. "I am 15", says Hunter. "15 YOU SAY!!", Bellowed Liliana, "I would never have guessed. The amount of power you have. What makes you want to become an adventurer?" "I want to become an adventurer so that I can earn money. I'm not starving or anything, just a hot bath, and a real bed sounds great.", says Hunter, "I usually just stay to myself in my little hut not too far from here. It's by no means up to date. I built it out in the forest after my mother passed away." "So what do you eat?", says Liliana. "Whatever I can catch or kill. Usually, small games like rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional deer.", says Hunter. "I usually cook them on a large flat rock grill I made outside using a campfire and large stones." "Hmm, so you are pretty self sufficient and you said you live in the forest not far from here, correct?", says Liliana, "So your eyes, what happened?" "When I was 10, I came down with a serious fever. My mother told me that no one expected me to survive.", says Hunter, "This is where you will just have to believe me. Lilith came to me while I was dying there. She told me that she could help me live, but it came with a price. My price was both of my eyes, literally. These eyes are cursed and destroy all that meets their gaze." The room grew eerily quiet. Liliana was speechless. Hunter continues the story. "I agreed to those terms so I knew what to expect when I woke up.", says Hunter, "My parents were devastated to say it plainly. I guess if I woke up and didn't know why I was blind I would have acted the same way." "So your eyes were cursed and you can't see anymore. How do you have such a perception of your surroundings?", asks Liliana. "It's my own type of search magic I guess you could say. It's similar to search magic but it allows me to see the outside world vaguely." Finishing her drink, Liliana got up from where she was seated and put up the scotch and her glass once she was done wiping it down. She closes the cabinet where the scotch resides and proceeds to walk over to the bookshelf behind Hunter and retrieve a magic crystal. She brings it back in front of Hunter, and holds it out. "Here Hunter, put your hand on this ball. It will gauge your current level, per say.", says Liliana, "This is what determines your rank. The ranks are from SSS-E. SSS being the highest and E being the lowest." Hunter reaches out his hand and touches the crystal. It begins to light up and hum. Liliana just remained silent for a moment, staring at the crystal. She was in disbelief. "Hunter, your true rank.... is S. However, I am going to register you as a C rank adventurer for now.", says Liliana, "This for your benefit I well know you are strong, but you are new to the dungeons ways. Please, until you are comfortably eliminating enemies, do not go beyond the 15th floor, which is one of the 4 safe zones in the dungeon. There is a town down there. Be sure to visit it when you earn enough to buy new equipment." Liliana begins to walk behind her desk and fumble through it for something. A Sapphire necklace that resembles a dog tag on a chain. She sets it down on the desk and enchants it with Hunter's rank. "Here is your guild identifier, it is Sapphire representing that of a rank B adventurer.", says Liliana, "To accept jobs from the request board here you have to wear this. When you are on a mission or in the dungeon wear it always." "Will do. Is there anything else or may I go now?", says Hunter, "I'm in no hurry, I am just quite hungry now, you see hehe." "That is all for today. Do you wish to attempt the dungeon today?", asked Liliana. "No, today my objective was just to register. I need to prepare before I begin in the dungeon." says Hunter. With that, Hunter stood up and bowed to Liliana and thanked her. Hunter exited the office and was greeted by the receptionist from earlier. She seemed flustered. "Something wrong Ms.?", asks Hunter, "Anything I can do?" "N-No, I-I just wanted to apologize for earlier, I never got to.", says the receptionist, "My name is Meredith. I'm pleased to be working with you!" "Same to you Meredith, I'm off home for the day. I will return in the morning to check the job list or material requests.", says Hunter. With that, Hunter left to return to his home in the woods. Along the way he managed to find that one of his traps had caught a squirrel. That was dinner taken care of. When Hunter arrived home it was well past dark and he decided to just clean, cook and eat his squirrel and be off for bed to prepare for tomorrow.
