Richard decided to walk down the street since it was still early in the evening. There was a park close by, so he walked to it, enjoying the evening breeze. As he arrived at the park, he could hear the sounds of children and parents playing, enjoying the moment. He had always yearned for the time when he would be this happy and content with life, but for the past few years, his life had been miserable. Just then, his phone rang. When he checked the screen, it was from an unknown number. He decided not to pick up the call since he wasn’t used to answering calls from strangers. But as he put his phone back in his pocket, it rang again—still the same number. Richard let it ring out.
The caller must have gotten tired of him not picking up, Richard thought. But that wasn’t the case. The calls kept coming, and his phone continued to ring. So, he finally decided to pick up and find out why the caller was so persistent.
When he answered, he heard, “Mr. Morgan, are you there?”
“I’m sorry, this is the wrong number. Please check the number again before calling,” Richard said, about to hang up.
“I’m very sure this isn’t a wrong number. You are Mr. Morgan, and I am James Weaver, the head of the Morgan Empire. We’ve been searching for you for all these years, and now we’ve finally reached you,” James said.
Richard was confused. “I’m sure there’s some misunderstanding here. I’m just Richard, an orphan... you’re calling me the heir of the Morgan Empire?”
“I know you’re confused right now, but would it be okay if I come over to see you and explain everything to you?” James replied.
Richard thought for a few moments. He just couldn’t allow a stranger to come over to his house. Who knew what could happen? He might be humiliated, or worse, this stranger could bring danger to the house. After some consideration, Richard responded.
“Don’t bother coming over. You’ve made a serious statement, and I want to find out more, so just send me your address, and I’ll come to see you myself,” Richard said.
“That would be fine. I’ll send you the address right away. I look forward to finally meeting you in person after all these years,” James replied.
“Alright, that will be all for now. I’ll meet you tomorrow,” Richard said, then hung up the call.
What James had said was surprising to Richard because he had always grown up in the orphanage. He believed he was just a boy with no parents, so how could he possibly be called the heir to the prestigious Morgan Empire? He just couldn’t wrap his mind around it, but he was determined to find out everything tomorrow.
For now, he had stayed up late at the park, and he was sure the party would have been over by now. So, he decided to head back to the Sinclair mansion, where he had spent the last two years.
When he arrived at the mansion, just as expected, the party was over, and only the maids and the staff were left, cleaning up the mess.
As he walked in, he met the furious gaze of Andrew, who was still awake.
“Look here, Richard. I’ll spare you today because it is a happy occasion, but I won’t spare you next time if you act like that in front of my guests. I’m back now, and I’ll make sure to teach you some lessons. Hopefully, it’ll help you become a better man. The Sinclair family has long tolerated your uselessness,” Andrew said, tauntingly.
“I’m sorry for the way I acted earlier. I’ll try to be more careful next time, and I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Richard replied.
“You’d better make sure this doesn’t repeat itself, or next time, you’ll be thrown out of the house, and you won’t be allowed back,” Andrew stated coldly.
Richard turned to make his way up to his room, but just then, he was called back.
“And where do you think you’re going? There’s still so much work for you to do. Join the maids and clean up the mess from the party. This is your job, and this is what you’re good at. So, I know you’ll be efficient this time around,” Andrew said before walking away.
Richard had no choice but to join the maids and guards to clean up the mansion and make sure everything was in order.
After he finished, he went to his room to meet Maya.
“Welcome, Richard! Where have you been all this time?” Maya asked. She had been worried about him and was very concerned about his whereabouts.
“You don’t have to worry about me. I’m fine now. I just happened to walk to the park, then after spending some time there, I came back home and helped the maids clean up the mansion. That’s all,” Richard said.
“You’ve really been doing a great job. I know you’ve been working hard, so don’t let anyone talk down to you. All that matters is that I appreciate your efforts, and I’m not leaving you for anyone,” Maya said.
“I’m also happy that I married a loyal woman like you. I’m so impressed that, despite your family’s opposition and your social status, you’ve stuck with me. I promise I’ll make things right and ensure you live a better life,” Richard said.
“It’s all right, Richard. Let’s sleep. It’s already late,” Maya said, encouraging him to get some rest.
Richard’s thoughts, however, were still consumed by what the stranger had said—the claim of him being the head of the Morgan Empire and the address he was given. He didn’t know if he could trust this stranger, but one thing was certain: by tomorrow, he was going to find out everything.
