Lily's POV One week has passed already and the rent is nowhere near complete. Everyday at the back of my mind I keep reminding myself that Mr Raymond will show up soon. He is going to throw me out and I will lose my bakery, “why are you crying sweetie”, Mrs Philips asked, drawing me from my thoughts. “I didn't even notice I was crying, nothing Mrs Philips” I replied weakly, “please get water for Lily” she called out to Maya. “Is this about Raymond, you won't lose this bakery sweetie I see how much you worry everyday, believe in miracles my baby and keep your mind at ease”, she tried Cheering me up. Giving her a tired smile I collected the water from maya and thanked her. “Boss you know I love you so much right”, maya said teasingly making me laugh, stop with the boss Maya”, I glared playfully. “I might have a way to help you out Lily,” she said, seriously getting my attention. “My roommate works in Stone industries “I'm sure you've heard of that”, she asked me”. “Of course”, I might not be a social media person but I've heard customers here talk about the owner and I must say he's fully loaded, they said he's on Forbes under 30 billionaire. “So what about it?” I asked her, “so she told me that the owner does lend out money to business owners” Maya continued. “How about you try talking to him and see if he will be of any help”, she finally finishes. “Getting an appointment to see such an important person will be so hard”, I voiced out loud without thinking. “My roommate will help you fix an appointment with him, she's his secretary”, Maya said reassuringly with a smile. I stood up pacing nervously in the bakery thinking about the suggestion of Maya. It seemed like it could work out but will the owner of the stone industry lend me such an amount of money without repercussions? Being an overthinker had to be the biggest problem in my life. Not wanting to think too much about and weighing what was at stake, I made a mental note to visit the Stone industry the next day. After closing the bakery for the day I made my way home to my tiny apartment, changing into my nightwear feeling lonely and tired. I finally succumbed to sleep with the task of the next day at the back of my mind. ……………… Beep beep…. I jumped awake startled with the beeping of my alarm, I took my phone from the nightstand checking the time, 7:00 I grunted loudly feeling like I haven't gotten enough sleep yet. Today was the day that I was supposed to meet with Mr Stone. Maya's roommate was able to fix an appointment with him. Moving to my tiny bathroom I brushed and took my bath, moving to my closet to look for something comfortable but professional for my trip to the stone industry. I don't have much clothes so it was hard to finally see something worth wearing in a billionaire's presence. Muttering a quick prayer, I picked up my bag and keys to check myself out in the mirror before moving out. I was putting on a gray pants trouser with a cream long sleeved shirt with my late mother's necklace looking shiny matched with stud earrings. To finish off my looks I put on the nude heels I got from maya on my last birthday making me feel beautiful. My long blonde hair was packed in a ponytail making me look so professional. Stepping out I called a cab and made my way to the stone industry. It took about 30 mins due to a little traffic but I'm finally here. Thanking the cab driver, I finally got out of the cab. Standing in front of the stone industry and looking at the bold heading of the place I feel so intimidated and out of place but I made my way inside regardless. "Good morning ma'am where are you off to?" the receptionist asked with a stoic face. “ I am here to see Mr Stone”, I replied nervously. “Take the elevator to the 30th floor, turn to your right and his office is right there”,she replied rudely, quickly thanking her I made my way to the elevator feeling so nervous. Ding, the elevator jolted me out of my daydream as I got to the 30th floor. Making my way to the right I met Rose, Maya's roommate on the floor who turned out to be Mr Stone's assistant. “Good morning lily she said warmly with a smile on her face putting me at ease, have a seat Mr stone is in a meeting”, she said warmly. After waiting for a few minutes, Rose finally asked me to go in and Mr Stone was already available. Knocking softly on the door I didn't get a response, getting tired I finally made my way in. “Good morning Mr stone” , I greeted him, his chair was turned to the back and I couldn't see his face cause he looked so lost in thought. “Ahem” , I cleared my throat finally getting his attention, finally turning his seat to face me , my breath hitched. “Holy Cow, this was the blue-eyed man who came to the bakery with his friends the other day, so he is the owner of the stone industry”. “Damn he looked ten times hotter with his glasses on”. I must have been staring for a while because a clearing of my throat finally snapped me back to reality. “ Have your seat and how may I help you?”he asked coldly, getting straight to the point. “I'm Lily Robert, owner of a bakery. I'm in a financial crisis and a friend directed me to you saying that you might be of help”, I finally said thanking God for not stuttering. “And how much are we talking about Miss Robert?” He asked, looking straight at me. $10,000 Mr stone, I breathed out playing with the bracelet on my wrist due to how nervous I was. “Okay so what do I stand to gain if I borrow you that amount of money?" he suddenly asked, making me blink twice in surprise. “Sir?” I think there's a problem with my hearing. “You heard me, I don't like repeating myself, miss Robert”, “what do I stand to gain if I render you my help?. “I will pay you back sir”, I replied sharply. “You don't look like you can pay me back miss Robert”, he fired back. At this point I was on the verge of tears because all I can see is me leaving here without any way of saving my bakery, mustering all the courage left in me. I finally took my bag and stood up to leave. “I'm sorry for wasting your time Mr Stone, i will take my leave now”. “Sit down Miss Robert , I have a proposition for you”, he suddenly said, taking me by surprise. Looking interested in whatever he has to say I took my seat again. “You are not married or in a relationship are you?”, he started, I shook my head no. “Good, I will give you any amount you want to save your bakery but in return I want you to marry me”. Shock and confusion was evident on my face at this point. Shock because I never thought I would be getting married to someone I don't love or someone I don't know. Confusion because what does he stand to gain with marrying a stranger. “You said what Mr Stone”, I finally asked. “Exactly what you heard, Miss Robert”, you can think about it, but this offer is only for a week after that I don't have any help to offer you, he finally clarified. “But why do you want me to marry you?” I ask bewildered. I don't like being questioned miss Robert but since it is necessary you will get your answers , I need a wife for the sake of my mum”, he finally said. “I am a very busy man Miss Robert, but my mother wants me to get married and that isn't something I can get out of, so you get to marry me and I get to give you what you need for your Bakery, so what do you say it is a win win situation for us Miss Robert”, He said looking at me with his piercing blue eyes. Not wanting to regret anything I finally decided to go home and think about it then I will get back to him before the one week grace elapses. “Will be expecting your answer miss Robert”,he replied getting back to his work as I made my way out of his office in haste.
