Blurb

She could hear his pounding footsteps against the concrete behind her. The rain pelted her face as she ran, blurring her vision as she sped through the city streets. She knew he was going to catch her. She was exhausted from everything she had been through in the last two weeks. He was close now, she could hear his heavy breathing behind her.

She turned a corner and ran as fast as she could down a narrow dimly lit alley. That's where he caught her.

He pushed her against the cold brick wall of the run down building. He pinned her there with his body. He was pressed against her with one hand on each side of her head.

Esme was overwhelmed. Their connection set her skin on fire and now that they're bodies were flush against each other she felt like she had been engulfed in flames. She was pressed against his wide muscular chest. His white tee-shirt was soaked through and plastered against his skin. His long dirty blonde hair was dripping wet and had fallen into his face. His beautiful statuesque features were contorted with anger. His grey storm cloud eyes were filled with fire. For a few long moments the only sound filling the air was the rain and their heavy breathing.

"We are not playing this game, Esmerelda." He told her. His words were dripping with anger. His deep reach baritone sent a shiver through her. She hated the way her body responded to him. "You're not running from me again. You know I'm just going to catch you."

"I'm not doing this anymore! I won't put you at risk! You're an Alpha Alex! You're duty is to protect your pack!" She shouted, she began to struggle pushing against his chest with all her might. He didn't even budge.

"My duty is to protect my pack as much as it is to protect my mate!" He shouted back."You belong with us! Christian and I will protect you!"

Esme saw her window catching him off guard and punched him right in the gut. He instantly released her.

Before she even made it two steps he had slammed her back up against the wall. Esme gasped when she saw his face. His eyes were pitch black.

"I will have what is mine!" He growled before smashing his lips down on hers.

The Moon Blood Pack
It was the third time she had run away from the pack house. This time Esme was determined that she would never go back to that hell. She silently slipped through the treeline quiet as a mouse. As she trudged deeper and deeper into the pitch black woods her anxiety rose, after all these were pack lands and as soon as she crossed the boarder there would be no going back. Esmerelda was only fifteen years old and came from an extremely rare pack. So extremely rare the pack was hidden deep in the isolated woods of Washington. Her pack, the Moon Blood Pack, was unheard of around the world. When the pack began it was extremely controversial and stayed hidden primarily because when it was founded it still had not received official approval from the central committee. Though at the time the committee had just been founded in the United States it was demanded any and all packs report to the committee as was custom in the old country. Though if the founder of the pack Alpha Kendrick had asked for approval it's likely he would have been killed just for asking. At the time Kendrick was considered an extremist a man who not only believed that witches and wolves could live hand in hand he even had the nerve to fall in love with a witch. A witch powerful enough to threaten the commitees very way of life. After years of persecution Alpha Kendrick and his wife fled deep into the Washington back country and founded their own pack. Secretly they welcomed other couples and families like their own to join them. Wolves and witches alike flocked to the remote location and in a matter of years the isolated heaven became a small city. It was masked by magic. Hidden from the world, its citizens gladly swore themselves into secrecy willingly. Everyone of them vowing to never leave and never jeopardize the home where they were allowed to love freely. Esme had no intention of jeopardizing what her pack had stood for at founding but she had to leave if she was going to survive. Shortly after founding the pack Alpha Kendrick who was a man of science, began to realize the offspring between witch and wolf only had two outcomes. The child was either a witch or a wolf but, never both. Kendrick became obsessed with finding out why the two lines could never mix. Kendrick poured over ancient texts and relics, had his coven perform hundreds of spells and ceremonies. Until one day he was successful. After his poor wife had been dragged through hardship after hardship she fell pregnant with a gift from the Moon Goddess. The first ever hybrid. Marxus was his name. Kendrick didn't know it at the time but, he had created a monster. After the first birth of a hybrid the coven was gifted with four more births. All four were born after long strenuous ceremonies and all were born hybrids. Isabella, Kendrick's wife saw inate beauty in the hybrids. Their magic was fueled by their wolves instead of the earth, giving them a constant source of power living and breahing within themselves. She saw them as a true gift from the Moon Goddess. One rainy night the Moon Godess herself visited Isabella. She told Isabella of a prophecy. According to the prophecy, Kendrick's legacy would be plagued with terror and darkness. But, there was hope. A hybrid would be born under a full moon, one that was a true gift from the Goddess. One that would not need ceremony or spell before birth. This child would be born a true hybrid and go on to become the most powerful witch to ever live. Isabella was not a stupid woman. she knew if her husband were to find out about this hybrid his lust for their power would know no limits so she hid her vision from him. She did however make the mistake in confiding in her own son. Marxus though he was only young at the time saw this as a threat. After all he was the first born hybrid, how was he not a true hybrid? Why would the Moon Goddess curse him and bless another? When Marxus came of age the truth of the prophecy was revealed. Kendrick's legacy was doomed by the fruits of his own loins. Marxus murdered his father and took control of the pack. His first decree as Alpha was to have his mother burned at the stake. No one could ever know there was to be one born with more power than him. And so began his own obsession. Confiding in no one, Marxus secretly hunted for the True born. He even cast an antiaging spell on himself, with time no longer a constrain he was free to hunt for them until the end of time. Esme was only a few months old when she was brought to the pack. No one knows who dropped her on the coven's doorstep only that even from birth it was obvious she was a witch. Marxus seemingly welcomed the girl, even moving her into the pack house directly. But, as she grew it became apparent to those around her she was incredibly gifted. Even before she could walk her magic seemed to work on its own accord. Once while the wetnurse had her back turned for only a brief moment Esme slipped right off the changing table, when the nurse turned back the baby was suspended in midair. When Alpha Marxus heard of this he became increasingly anxious about the girl. Even going so far as to having her tested at the age of ten for the wolf gene. The results were never shared with the pack however, it was noted the witch who preformed the ceremonies vanished and Esme was hidden away never to be seen by the general public again. Esme was young when the test was performed. But, even now at fifteen she could remember every detail. Diana, a coven member who performed the ceremonies had done her best to keep Esme calm. Assuring her it was a test done on all the outsiders who joined the Moon Blood Pack. She remembers the pungent smell of herbs burning and the horrifying look on the alphas face at the completion. But, something else happened. Something she never told a single soul. Something woke up inside of her as a result to the spell. A voice. From that day forward Esme became a prisoner. She was locked in the storage room of the pack house. She was kept under nearly constant supervision. She was absolutely forbidden from ever using her magic and a binding spell was cast on her.For years she never even saw the sky. She was fed scraps from the alphas table, when there was some. For weeks she would go without food or water until the Alpha saw fit for her to eat again. Numerous times the Alpha called for her and beat her without saying even a single word to her. In these times the voice would come to her. It would whisper for her to be strong. Esme never understood why but, whenever she heard the voice the pain lessened and she was able to distance herself from her reality. For years Esme was trapped in darkness until she turned thirteen and it was determined she would work in the kitchens and serve the alphas meals. Though the Alpha may have seen it as servitude, Esme saw it as a gift. She loved the kitchens. She loved waking before dawn to prep the meals. She loved the smell of fresh baked bread. Even more so she loved Alice the baker who would sneak Esme food whenever she could. The first time Esme had tried to run from the pack she had been three days away from her fourteenth birthday. She had, had no plans of making an escape attempt that day. But the voice inside had been whispering constantly. It thought of everything for her. She didn't know how or why at the time but that voice inside her had been observing everything around them with the eyes of a hawk. It somehow knew the schedule of the guards near the bakery eneterance. That day as she stood waiting for Alice to arrive she heard the voice as clear as day, no longer a faint whisper it came in clear as day. "Run. Now. And don't look back." It told her. And she had listened without a second thought. She turned from the doorway and took off as fast as her legs could carry her. She didn't know how she knew but, she knew she could trust the voice. The first time she ran she was caught within the hour. She had fallen at the edge of the riverbank and twisted her ankle. Though she faught through the pain it made it impossible to run when the Alpha sent a hunting party after her. She was dragged back to the pack house and beat within an inch of her life. The second time had been nearly the same, beginning to end. This time however the voice inside her head had not been alone in planning their escape. By this point Esme had a clear understanding of the world around her. With no mother or father to defend her from the alphas attacks she was alone in the world. The pack and coven members all turned a blind eye. If she remained with the pack it was her destiny to be beaten and tormented till eventually she was dead. This time it would be different she was determined as she prepared to never see the pack lands again.
