The Nightmare
On the night of Halloween, the year 1941, in Nashville, Tennessee, there were carved pumpkins sitting on people’s doorsteps. Fairytale creatures were carved into the pumpkins and many children were dressed up, going door to door collecting candy in the cold night. There was one 13-year old girl who stood out, she had long blonde hair and blue eyes, she was dressed up like Alice in Wonderland, and her name was Natalia Buchanan.    She lived with her three older brothers, Brody, who was 16-years old, tall and handsome, with blonde hair and green eyes. He was the star of the hockey team, making him popular with all the girls. Kyle, who was 28-years-old, had been stationed in Florida while serving in the army. Justin, who was 26-years old, was a country singer who had been touring the country. Nathan was the oldest of the bunch, and the guardian of Brody and Natalia. He worked at a high school as a gym teacher, football, and hockey coach.    Their parents had passed away in a car accident two years earlier, leaving Nathan responsible for Brody and Natalia. Ever since Natalia’s parents had passed away she had been dealing with their death by rebelling. This made Nathan overprotective.      Natalia was walking up a long winding driveway and as she approached a spooky haunted house, she felt goosebumps. This reminded her of a movie she watched that made her feel goosebumps, the spooky driveway and the house made her feel uneasy. “Trick or treat,” Natalia said, as the door opened with a creaking sound. A little old lady answered the door and the smile on her face as she put the candy in Natalia’s pillow case reminded Natalia of the Wicked Witch from the West. On her way to the next house, she spotted a scarecrow, which made her tremble, but for the rest of the night, she continued to the other houses in the neighborhood until she had finished trick or treating. As she entered the house, her brothers jumped out wearing spooky masks, scaring her even more. Putting fear in her eyes.    All of a sudden, she smelled her favorite food being cooked. The smell of spaghetti filled the house, so she went back downstairs to eat. The family sat down to watch “The Wolfman” after dinner. Halfway through the movie she started to shiver under the covers, so she decided to go to the bedroom. While sleeping, she had a nightmare about werewolves.     The next morning, she was woken by the sun shining through the window making the room glow, and with the sound of roosters crowing. As she yawned, her brothers came running in making a racket. She went into the kitchen for breakfast. After she finished, she headed out to the barn to do her chores. She rewarded herself with a quick trail ride. As she and Lightning, her horse, walked through the 10 acres of property, Lightning got spooked by something moving in the bushes, so he jolted toward the livestock. As the wind was whistling it gave her chills, so she headed back to the house. Their home was sitting on a field filled with buttercups and dandelions. The field was big, round and colorful, and cattle grazed on the grass.      While getting ready for school, she was trying to decide on what to wear when the bus approached, causing her to panic. When on the bus, Natalia looked out into the distance of the fields as the bus approached the school.    Once at school, Natalia started to walk down the hallway to her locker, when she spotted Travis McCoy, the cutest boy in the school. She had a huge crush on him and every time she saw him her face would light up like the sun. She started to go toward him when Brody got in the way, “what do you think you are doing, little sister?” he asked.   She replied with a stuttering voice, “I was going to talk to that new boy I spotted.”    She thought to herself that he was too protective, but then a small tiny voice said, “would you like to come to my birthday party?” She noticed it was the new boy she had spotted earlier.   “Sure I would love to come to your party, but I would have to ask my brother for permission first,” she replied, with a nervous voice.      After school, she approached her brother, Nathan. “May I attend a party hosted by a new boy I met at school?” she asked him.   “Yes, but be home by 11,” he replied.    The phone rang and Nathan answered it. At the other end of the line was her older brother, Kyle. She was surprised and excited at the same time. After three years of being away, Kyle was finally coming home. She was eager to see her brother once again.    The night of the party, Natalia lost track of the time and just realized it was past her curfew when she felt someone staring down. It was her brother.   “You are coming home with me!” Nathan said in an angry voice.   “But I’m about to have a drink,” Natalia replied in a nervous voice.   “Are you drinking alcohol?” he said in a concerned voice.   “No,  I don’t think it is alcohol,” she replied.   “I’m not going to ask you again,” he said. As Nathan went toward Travis, giving him a head start out the door.    When they approached the house, they noticed an extra vehicle in the driveway. When she realized it was Justin, she started to get excited. She noticed his smile and brown hair.   “You’re home finally. I’ve been wondering where you were,” she said in an excited voice.     As she was eavesdropping, listening to the conversation between Nathan and Justin, Brody noticed and told on her. She thought he was being childish, “Grow up Brody and maybe try to get life while you’re at it,” she said to him. No reply came from Brody. She thought it odd that he didn’t have a comeback.     The next morning, she woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside her bedroom window. She continued down the stairs, and noticed that there was an extra plate set at the table, making it four people. All of a sudden, she remembered that Kyle had come home late last night, making her feel that the family was together once again.       As the year passed, Natalia and Travis started dating. Everything was going great until Natalia started to hang out with other boys, making Travis jealous and controlling. Brody asked Natalia one day when we were on the bus, “When did you start going out with Travis, and why didn’t you tell us about him?”  “I didn’t tell you guys because I knew you would get upset and be tough and all,” Natalia said with a sarcastic voice. As they both reached the house, they hurried inside because a storm was rolling in with thunder and lightning making the sky light up like the northern lights. All of a sudden, Brody started blabbing on about our day at school. “Guess who has a boyfriend?” Brody said, in an excited voice.   “Natalia, who’s the guy and what’s his name?” one of her other brothers said.  “His name is Travis McCoy and he is very gentle and caring, so you don’t have to worry,” Natalia replied.   “I have to worry because you’re my responsibility and my little sister,” Kyle said.    Natalia told her brothers she was going to bed early and she went into her bedroom. The storm had cleared up, and there was a dance happening that night. Natalia knew her brothers wouldn’t let her go so she snuck out her bedroom window. She managed to get on her bike and head to the dance. A boy asked her to dance and she agreed. Travis got very upset. “Back off!” Travis said, in an angry voice.   “What if I don’t?” said the boy.     Just then, Natalia noticed a dark figure in the window, and realized it was Kyle. He had noticed she was gone. When he saw his sister was in trouble, he came storming through the gym like he was about to attack an enemy in combat. He pushed Travis aside, grabbed Natalia, and told her to get in the car. When Natalia refused to get into the car, this made Kyle get angry even more and told her she was grounded. If she didn’t obey him. When they reached the house, he asked her to go to her room until dinner was ready so he could talk to her brothers. They were having fried chicken.    When Natalia came down to dinner, she noticed her brothers were all staring at her. She asked them, “What is the matter?” and Kyle responded, “There are some rumors going around about Travis. Listen to me and I will tell you the story.”       On the night of Halloween, when Natalia had been feeling particularly agitated, townspeople had discovered Travis’ previous girlfriend dead in the woods. Some believed that she had been bitten by a werewolf and later killed by a member of the pack. A number of other strange deaths in the countryside had people believing that Travis was the werewolf, and that he was terrorizing people who got in his way.   News of the strange town occurrences had reached the army, and the real reason Kyle had come home was to investigate the deaths and Travis. Kyle was scared to learn that Natalia was dating Travis, which was why he was telling her the story.     Kyle was worried about Natalia, so he had decided to take her back to the army base to keep her safe. After dinner, Kyle had Natalia pack, then they got into the 1941 Willys to begin the trip to the base.  Twenty minutes into the drive, Natalia looked behind them and saw a huge werewolf running behind the vehicle. She screamed as the werewolf leaped onto the roof of the car. Kyle, taking one hand off the wheel, reached for his gun and fired through the roof  Kyle had missed, then Travis jumped on the hood of the car and scared Natalia. So, Kyle shot him again and this time Travis bounced off the car and hit the ground. As they sped off into the distance, Natalia turned and looked behind them and saw that Travis was gone, meaning he was still alive. This left Kyle and Natalia in danger, so they continued to Fort Murray, Florida, but Travis eventually caught up with them.
