Chapter 6

Sterling P.O.V It had been a month, an entire month without Scarlet and I was going out of my mind. Her mother had to resume as queen and she had merged both our packs because my pack was right beside hers. My pack members were saddened by their queen and Luna’s attempted murder, but they distracted themselves by building more places and expanding the territory, so it was easier to merge us. Some of them had even found their mates and had moved in together. I had to let my beta take over because I was in no condition to run the pack. I walked in at my usual pace to see her body there hooked up on machines and I sighed. This was so much harder than I had thought and the mark hurt, even more, each day. A single tear fell from my cheek and I felt cold hands hold my shoulder and I turned to see her mom looking heartbroken. She was much colder now, and her skin was pale in contrast to Scarlet’s tan body. I just wanted to hold her and see her sparkling brown eyes again and hear her laugh.  I sat down beside her bed and held her hand, “Scarlet please come back to me.” I lay beside her on the hospital bed and gently rubbed her curly hair. I wanted her back, so I could love her, see her carry my pups and grow old with her by my side. Her mother stared at us and I knew her heart was breaking. Scarlet’s brother came up behind her and held his mother as she began to cry again.  Her brother, which I found out his name to be Trey, carried his mother away and left me alone with my Scarlet. I gently brushed her hair and smiled at her. “You know I was a bit nervous when I found out that you were my mate. The day before I met you my wolf had been jumpy and almost attacked my beta Jacob.” FLASHBACK I was standing in my office and staring out the balcony window and watching the beauty of the scenery, something about it was calming my wolf. It was the direction of the Willow tree that I had always found comfort in. I remember meeting a young girl there when I was only five years old and she immediately had my interest, the way she was just so demanding. She knew I was hiding, and her voice had made my wolf involuntarily come out of hiding as if in a trance. We talked to each other for four hours until I heard my mother calling and I walked back to her, but I never forgot that little girl. I smiled at the memory when my beta came into the room and I sat down to listen to him. “Alpha are you ready? Your bags are packed, and the driver is waiting in the car.” “Jacob how many times must I say call me Sterling, for God’s sake we’re best friends,” I answered in a manner of fact. He smiled at me and I got up to walk with him, but I felt a wave of pain go through me and I collapsed to the ground gasping for air. The pain ripped through me and my wolf howled in pain before I blacked out. When I awoke I realized it was morning and I was in the hospital. I pulled the attachments out of me and slowly got up. My beta walked into the room and rushed over to me setting me back down on the bed, “Whoa, mister you need to rest." “Why do I need to rest? We will be late for the coronation” “The coronation isn’t for a while now, and besides you had everyone scared when you blacked out.” “I blacked out? What do you mean I blacked out?” “You toppled over in pain and the sky started rumbling as a storm came out of nowhere. Do you remember what happened?” The doctor walked into the room and pulled out her equipment and examined me. “All I can remember is that I felt pain, unbearable pain.” The doctor looked at me shocked and mumbled something that I did not hear before she walked out of the room. **** When my wolf pack arrived at the castle my wolf began to stir in me and became anxious. I wondered what was happening, but I shook it off and went into the room for the coronation. Bloodstream's pack was truly exquisite, but it was nothing compared to the new queen. She was a vision of beauty.  Her dark brown hair was done in a bun and she wore almost no make-up except for her lips that were colored blood red. She wore a red dress too that had my wolf howling in pleasure and I couldn't believe when he said the word “Mate.” End of Flashback “As I continued to tell Scarlet the story the machines started to beat frantically, and I panicked, “Scarlet!” I screamed, and the machine went dead.
