Meeting Matt happened accidentally, almost like it was fate; an incredibly cruel fate. Katie loved working out, she was a member at the local gym and always begged Roxanne and I to go with her. Most days we were able to change the subject, or just completely ignore her. For unknown reasons we gave into her pleas and went with her one Friday after school. Walking through the double glass doors it felt imitating; the layout allowed you to see everything. The entire front of the building was glass, so bystanders could see a glimpse of what they had to offer. That area alone was filled with treadmills, bikes, and elliptical trainers. Glass walls inside allowed those in the gym to watch classes as they took place. To the right, a massive rock wall; and a set of stairs. Signs posted at the entrance told visitors which way to the spa, locker rooms, and in front of us a customer service desk. Where members could buy protein packed snacks and drinks. We walked to the right and went up to the second floor to find the free weights.
Katie stood at roughly 5’8” and barely reached the 125 pound mark. Her looks were a mix of pop princesses Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson: golden blonde hair, blue eyes, and an ass to kill. Thanks to her membership at Tropical Tan, she basked in fluorescent light bulbs bi-weekly giving her the perfect "sun kissed" glow. She was beautiful, she had it all. That’s what she portrayed at least; being her best friend I knew better. All she wanted in life was to be loved, she was quick at giving her heart away; almost as fast as she was to lay in bed with someone. She didn’t care what anyone said about her, or her reputation to go through groups of guys. Behind closed doors, the crazy girl seemed to settle and that’s what we loved about her. As a friend, she was there…as long as a boy wasn’t involved.
Roxanne, couldn’t have been more than 150, and she had a unique kind of beauty with the perfect hourglass figure. Her eyes reminded me of a cartoons: brown, large, and round. Her hair was a mixture of black and brown. She was shorter than us, just making 5’; but her personality would make you think otherwise. She was spunky and always spoke her mind. Boys seemed to be the only topic that would keep her mouth shut. She hid herself from the opposite s*x, never showing them her true self.
Unlike either of them, I was “heavy” set, or big boned as they would put it. My legs were pure muscle, and I took pride in that. Other than my crystal blue eyes, they were my best asset. I stood roughly 5’5” and weighed roughly 180. The only part of my body that was bigger in a good way was my chest, a solid D cup. I was the strongest out of all of our friends, even the boys. Stubborn and hot-headed, the only one that was completely boy crazy yet had never been kissed.
We lifted weights for about 20 minutes, one upping each other until they couldn’t go over my 250 pound leg press. Normally, Katie would run for a good 30 minutes; but with Roxanne & me there we went straight to the basketball court. Playing around for a good hour, Roxanne had enough, wanting nothing more than to leave.
We were heading out of the court when a ball from the opposite side came bouncing towards us. Roxanne grabbed the ball, but the boy walking towards us had eyes on Katie…surprise, surprise. Roxanne threw the ball to him and he caught it without breaking eye-contact. With a flash of her smile and a quick turn, Katie walked out the door with the two of us in tow.
“Who the hell was that?!” Roxanne gasped
“Who knows, let’s go. Seth said he might be able to get us drinks for tonight” Katie advised. Her brother from time to time would allow us to drink his “secret” supply when their parents weren’t going to be around.
But before we could even say anything mystery guy walked out the doors and was heading straight for my car. He waved towards Katie, almost as if he already knew her.
“I thought you didn’t know him?” I questioned Katie.
“I don’t.” She replied, staring out the window in his direction.
“What are you doing?!” Roxanne questioned as Katie opened the door and slid out of the car.
“He wants to talk, so I’m going to talk.”
Roxanne and I sat there in the front seat, trying not to stare – or drool. But it was hard since they were standing right in front of the car. While he wasn’t on the tall side (maybe 5’4”), his smile was perfect; brilliantly white and straight, his eyes were a hazel that gave off a golden glow in the sun and he had short spiky brown hair. However, the one thing we noticed and couldn’t help but talk about when he walked away were his ears. They looked just like Legolas’ from The Lord of the Rings movies. I started my car as Katie climbed back in. Two minutes into the ride, Roxanne handed me a lit cigarette and then turned around to Katie.
“Well, what’d he say?!?” she asked with excitement and worry in her voice.
“His name is Matt” Katie replied, lighting her own cigarette and taking the first drag of it. “He wants us to come out tonight. He’s going to call me later to let me know his address.”
“HIS ADDRESS?!?” Roxanne yelled in shock. “We can’t just go over his house, we don’t even know him!”
That was our Roxanne, Miss. Safety Police. She was the most logical out of the three of us. Katie and I did whatever without actually thinking things through; but Roxanne, she wanted the plans to be laid out, with every detail. I smirked in the mirror, knowing that Katie had already made her mind up, she was dead-set on adding another notch onto her bedpost.
We originally had planned to do nothing that night, a few other girls would be coming to Katie’s. We never did the “normal” girly stuff like facials, painting our nails, or doing each other’s makeup. Katie, while being a beauty pageant queen had an older brother, Seth; so we spent most of our time playing video games with him and his friends.
Even though I never had a boyfriend, I loved boys. The way they looked and smelt, it was intoxicating. I was an only child and all of my friends growing up were boys. Katie and Roxanne were the only girls I spent my days with now. Ninety percent of the time it’d just be us, alone at Katie’s house. Roxanne’s level head and clear thinking got us out of doing a lot of stupid things. Tonight, however, she wasn’t going to be able to stop.
