Standing in Katie’s room, one would never guess that she has an edge to her. Pale purple walls with butterfly decals, and color coordinated bedding. She had her own beauty nook, with about 50 bottles of sprays on the top. I loved spraying all of them, walking through the mist of scents. However, if one were to get the locked drawer open you’d find a bag filled with pot, a small glass bowl, and a few lighters. As well as a few bottles of meds, mainly sleeping pills that she’d swipe from her parents. Roxanne and I would only smoke, the pills were a bit much for our liking.

I grabbed my overnight bag and went into the hall to get into the full bath located in the hall in between Katie and her little brother Zack’s bedrooms. 

I felt nervous when I stepped back into the hallway. Expecting to see John, luckily no one was there. Rather their voices coming from the kitchen told me they were all in there, arguing over the last hot pocket.

Turning the water on to luke warm, I stepped under the water. I took my time washing my hair, shaving and scrubbing my squishy body.

“Stacey, what’s taking you so long?” Roxanne asked as she shut the door. The bathroom was huge and she stayed by the duel sinks.

I wanted to tell her what just happened with John, and how I couldn’t stop thinking about how I almost just had my first kiss. Instead, I decided to focus on what was coming.

“Roxanne, what if something happens tonight?!” I stated as I shut the water off, grabbing my towel from the hook & pulled it tight around my body.

Roxanne was standing there in a towel when I walked out of the shower area.“Sure, right, as if Katie would allow that” she whispered.I rolled my eyes, but knew all too well what she was talking about. Roxanne & I loved Katie, but she had a tendency to steal whatever boy one of us liked and have s*x with him for the fun of it. Even though she may be with someone else at that moment. Roxanne never told her who she liked after Katie hooked up with Kevin, a boy from our school that Roxanne secretly had the biggest crush on. 

I lotioned up near the sinks while Roxanne showered, thinking that between the three of us, Roxanne and I were the closest. She never asked me for anything, and when it was just the two of us we didn’t have to go out or buy anything. My family might have been wealthy, but I was not as wealthy as Katie. I worked for my money, like Roxanne. Katie never had a job, all she had to do was put her hand out and say how much.

“Stacey, you’ll find a boy whose worthy of your v-card one day…as for me, I’d rather stay here and keep our original plans,” she said to me over her shoulder as she stepped out of the shower.

“Roxanne, try to have fun tonight. Who knows maybe there will be a bunch of people we know there” I then said to her.

“Do you even know where we are going?” Roxanne asked me as I finished hooking up my bra, making the girls look their absolute best.

“Um, no,” I said as I shook my hair out. Using my fingers to brush it out. I had already come up the stairs before Katie had gotten into the details with her brother.

“Hatfield! We know no one from Hatfield.” She stated. She gave me a look in the mirror and sat down next to me at the beauty nook.

Roxanne and I did each other’s makeup while Katie got ready in her parents shower. We wore our usual jeans and t-shirt, only the shirt I had on was a rather risky deep v-neck that gave a good peck at the girls. As soon as we were done getting ready, we headed out to the kitchen.

Roxanne was able to get ahold of the other girls that were supposed to be coming over tonight to let them know our plans had changed and if they wanted to join us. One out of the three others agreed to it and asked for us to pick her up on the way.

I stood in the kitchen while Roxanne went to hurry Katie up. Hearing the kitchen door close behind me I turned around to face the three boys as they came back in the house from having a smoke. 

“You look nice Stacey.” Seth said as he walked up to the kitchen sink, leaning against the counter next to me.  

“Thank you” I replied, smiling at him. Glancing then over to John who stood in the doorway, with his hands in his pockets staring at me. I gave him a weak smile not really sure how I felt about what had happened, or almost happened in the hallway.

“So, you gonna hook up with someone tonight at this party?” Seth said bringing my attention back to him.

I laughed, as I pushed myself away from the counter. “Yeah right...you seem to forget I’m the unkissed one.”

Seth smiled,”I’d never forget.” He said as he stepped closer to me, pausing for a moment before he continued to walk past me heading towards the basement. “Don’t do anything stupid.” He called us as he headed back down to the video games with Chad right behind him.

John stood there for a moment, looking like he wanted to say, or do something. But before he has the chance to do either Katie came walking, or more like being pushed, into the kitchen.

“Let’s go ladies! Sam is waiting for us to pick her up. AND it’s going to take some time getting to this Matt guy’s house.” Roxanne stated as she grabbed her purse and headed out the kitchen door. 

Katie shrugged her shoulders and followed her. I took a step towards John, mainly because my purse sat behind him on the counter. Reaching around him I grabbed it and held it in my hand.

“Have fun, playing games.” I said to him, pulling out my carton of cigarettes.

“Be safe.” he said, watching me as I walked out of the house.
