chapter 4
The last day, which was the third day, Maya made sure to play casually with the old lady as like she had no plans to abort the baby as soon as she left the mansion.
They played games and even gossiped about old days with childhood friends and family.
Speaking of family, elder Mrs Raven wanted to know more about Maya and how she had managed all her life.
She had heard little but never really had the time to dig deep into the case.
It was obvious the little girl had suffered, but there was no solid evidence, and only she knew what she had gone through.
She watched Maya closely as she laughed, smiled and played freely with her like she were her real mother.
And she couldn't help but embrace her closely.
…
“Mom, Dad. You won't believe what I just found out.” Shara rushed into the mansion. She had been busy planning the engagement with Gerald so that she had no time to inform her parents about her newest discovery.
Staying with Gerald was a big dream come true for her, but she must say he was a really difficult and sinister man.
She wondered how Maya managed to seduce him because she believed he was a man who was hard to convince. He always wanted it his way and that angered her, but she kept mute, not only because she so badly wanted to marry him but because she was glad to finally have a big ally for her family who would help to bring up the status of their company.
Oh, how proud her father would be of her. And maybe he would finally agree to eliminate Maya completely so she could never come out and tell the truth to the world.
“What is it, Shara my dear.” Her mother was the first to reply.
“Maya is pregnant by Gerald Raven, like my Gerald Raven.” She paused to see her parents' reaction to her words.
“What?” They both echoed.
“How can that be? That b***h, how dare she try to take away what's yours?” Her mother barked.
“Well, yes, she tried, but I still have him in my palms. Plus, our engagement is with two days to go.”
Shara danced happily and sat on a couch like a queen.
“Do you mean this Shara?” Her mother rushed to her side.
“Do I look like I'm kidding?” She snapped and rolled her eyes.
“I will achieve this and no one can take it away from me.”
…
By eve, Maya decided to say her farewell to the elder Mrs Raven and once she was dropped off at the junction by a cab, she moved straight towards a chemist for some abortion pills.
After checking out the most active and fast abortion pill, she realized that it was no longer valid as she had stayed up to three days, which made it invalid.
She realized the old lady's trick and how smart she moved.
Now she had no means of aborting the baby, which meant she would have to bare the consequences on her family.
Just like she had guessed, they called.
Her phone began to beep violently just like her heartbeats.
She hesitated before picking up the call.
“You bastard, get here now!”
They were the only words of her father before he hung up.
She swallowed and stood with blank thoughts on the side way.
She had no idea what to do and who to go to, so she decided to face it.
Run away and hide away from everyone, so Shara can have all she desires without her being in the way.
She rushed to her apartment, but to her dismay, Shara was already there waiting for her.
“You, bitch.” Shara grabbed her in the hair before she could run off. “How dare you seduce my fiancé, and now you are pregnant with him?”
“How f*****g dare you?” With these words she smacked Maya's tommy hard with her wrist.
“Ah.” Maya cried in agony, but it was all to no avail as Shara didn't dare to spare her.
“You honestly deserve to die.” Shara pushed her into the bedroom and shut the door behind her, then she set fire to the petrol she had poured on the floor very close to the door of the bedroom.
The fire beamed out violently, and she hurried away immediately with her so halfway covering her face.
She was sure that before the end of the day, there would be no more Maya.
…
The heavy smoke gushing into the room sent her a tough time breathing and no matter how much she tried, it was always so impossible.
Not when she had no inhaler in her bedroom and no strength to get out through the window.
She pushed hard as she tried her best to reach the large window.
Her attempts were slow and steady, but she knew she would make it even though she felt she had no reason to live.
She managed to grab her ATM card and scarf to cover her nose, then, after gaining some strength, she moved to her target, her only escape point.
The window was locked, but she managed to open it up and pushed herself out through it. Her only luck was that she didn't live in a building of apartments and her apartment was just a small bungalow.
She crawled her way away from the house before it totally got burned down to ashes, and she was finally able to breathe in relief.
She smiled in relief as she dashed the dirt off her body.
What they never knew was that Maya Banks would never back down.
Not even in the most stressful, crazy and tempting situations, would she ever back down.
