Maya Banks arrived in Australia with nothing but talent and the quiet, stubborn belief that it would be enough.

It nearly was.

Then she walked into the wrong bedroom and found her twin sister tangled in the sheets with her fiancé. That was the night Maya’s carefully built world came apart at the seams, and the night her enemies decided to finish what betrayal had started.

The plan was simple: destroy her reputation before she could rebuild it. Use her grief against her. Place her in a room with the right powerful man and let the consequences speak for themselves.

What they didn’t plan for was Gerald Raven.

Cold. Ruthless. The kind of wealthy that doesn’t need to announce itself. Gerald Raven was not a man who made mistakes, and he was certainly not a man who wanted complications. One reckless night was supposed to mean nothing to either of them.

Then Maya discovered she was pregnant.

And Gerald refused to acknowledge it.

What follows is not a love story. Not at first. It is a collision of pride, deception, and old family secrets that have been buried long enough to grow teeth. Gerald’s grandmother pulls strings from the shadows. Maya’s past refuses to stay dead. And somewhere in the wreckage of it all, Gerald announces his engagement to the last woman on earth Maya expected: her sister. The same woman who has spent years quietly, patiently, dismantling everything Maya ever tried to build.

Humiliated. Isolated. Still standing.

Maya turns her attention to two things: her career, and the truth behind her parents’ deaths. The deeper she digs, the less she likes what she finds. And the more dangerous the people watching her become.

Gerald tells himself he wants nothing to do with her. He is almost convincing.

Beneath Maya’s carefully guarded surface lies an identity that could bring one of the country’s most powerful families to ruin. Not because she planned it that way. Simply because the truth has a way of surviving everything people do to kill it.

When the lies finally surface and the threats turn real, Gerald faces the only decision that has ever actually cost him something.

Stay the man he built himself into. Or fight for the woman he was never supposed to want.

In a world where power is the only currency that matters, love is either the greatest risk or the only thing worth taking.

Maya Banks intends to find out which one it is.

Set up
She moved slowly on the large bed as the sunlight that penetrated from the windows into the room made her realize that it was morning. She tried to get up, but her legs were weak and the underside of her thigh hurt like crazy, like she had gone through surgery down there. But when she saw the pool of blood underneath her, she began to recall the happenings of the previous night — She had been r***d. Her heart began to race fast as the pain increased to the brim and began to curse the man who did this to her inwardly, and her nemesis twin sister, who would stop at nothing to get her killed, that was for sure. After seducing and sleeping with her ex, Shara wasn't satisfied. She wanted more and now she had more. Maya's eyes began to water as she recalled what had happened the following night. “How pathetic my life is, so much for wanting to be a virgin till I get married.” Her tears were slow as flowing water, spilling to the marble floor as she recalled what had happened last night. … *Flashback* The refreshing sounds of the music made her feel a large sense of relief that the world wasn't so evil, but the people were… It was the opening of the La’vinci Hotel and rich and wealthy men and women were invited, with very few or probably her being the only poor invited person, so she was left out by her family to stay in the counter and serve drinks while they sat like king, queen and her crazy twin sister, like a princess. They called it ‘her punishment’ for coming late to the ceremony as she had to see her foster mother who was sick at the hospital. Therefore, they told everyone that she had gone to see ‘her lover’ so she would be punished. She never really thought much about their dreadful deeds to her as she was aware that it wouldn't last forever and one day she would be swimming at the top of the world. She sat at the counter with a tray in her hand containing glasses of blue cocktail in which she was meant to serve as she watched the high-class people dancing, drinking, chatting and doing many more things. She felt distant, apart from them, as if she didn't belong, and in reality it was true. She was only here because her biological parents had thought it would be suspicious to exclude her from the ceremony because they had been invited as a family and not including her would result in unanswerable questions. She continued to watch them, not caring to step forward to talk with anyone as she had been warned never to do so. “Hey, isn't that Maya?” Some girls asked as they spoke with their voices low to the brim. Maya could still hear them, but she decided to ignore them. “Yes, she's my lovely sister.” Maya turned the minute she heard those words and her eyes met with those of Shara's and they sent each other burning daggers. “Lovely sister? She looks so much like a vomit,” One of the girls commented, and they all chuckled, including Shara. “See, I never doubted that Shara would be the prettier one.” Another girl complemented and Shara pulled up her innocent and pretty eyes like that of a puppy dog. “Aww., you girls make me blush. But don't talk about my sister like, Britney,” Shara said and turned to look at Maya as though she loved the condition she was in. The face, the embarrassment, the torture she received from her own biological family. It was all Shara ever wanted for Maya and her plan turned out fine, but she still wanted to do something more that would destroy Maya completely. “She's beautiful in her own way..” She nearly choked on her own words as Maya, who was once prettier than she was, was now as ugly as a monkey. The girls laughed in mockery to Maya, not caring a bit about her feelings. Maya was done hearing all those words, so she got up from the stool and made her way through the crowd and out of the hall. She just wanted to be home in that minute and to sit right on her couch with popcorn and soda beside her and the television switched on to her favorite television show. But she couldn't, as her ‘so-called’ father said she shouldn't unless he would get some men to beat her up after the ceremony. She walked through the hallway looking through the paintings on the wall and didn't realize when she passed the lines — the restricted area. She tried to go back but couldn't find her way, and so she decided to continue moving further. Maybe she would find the exit of the hotel. She didn't realize what was happening until she arrived at the last room in the hallway with two hefty men standing outside like they were guarding something so precious, and before she knew it, they glanced at each other and carried her into the room. Since she was tired and drugged as well, all she could do was scream inwardly as not even a breath dared to come out of her mouth even though she tried really hard. They pushed her into the dark room with only a little window that didn't help to lighten the room, but only a corner. Then they shut the door, locking it from the outside immediately, and she used all the remaining strength she had to bang the door but her efforts were useless. She decided to rest when she realized that no one would come to her aid so she approached the light that penetrated from the small window and felt the frame of a bed hit her. She cried softly due to the pain as her back was already aching from the stress and so without thinking, she laid on the bed, but she couldn't last another minute before being trapped. His arms were strong and firm, while she was helpless and tender. Before she could process what was happening, he began to tear off his clothes and hers. She realized that she had been set up with a man she didn't even know…. *End Of Flashback*
