Chapter 13 : We both are terrible at this.

Jisun walked to the bench at the side, where Minjun put his bag, and put his own belongings there too. Then the younger boy turned to face him again. Minjun gulped. He didn’t know exactly what was happening here, but he was nervous for sure. To be brutally honest, yes Minjun was waiting for the junior to come, but he honestly thought that it would be easier for him to deal with what he felt if Jisun didn’t come at all. “I’m really sorry hyung. I was confused. You ignored my text for two days then I got a message from you to meet today. I was kinda scared.” Jisun rubbed his nape. “Scared?” What was that supposed to mean? Am I… scary?! Jisun looked at him with a troubled expression on his face. As if the boy wasn’t sure whether to say the things on his mind or not. Minjun was not so sure if he want to hear what was on Jisun’s mind either. That guy just called him scary? Was he not going to tell Minjun that he was like some kind of monster next? He threw the ball that was beside him carelessly towards Jisun. It bounced painstakingly slowly in Minjun’s eyes until it reached Jisun’s feet. “1:1 with me.” they were no good with words, better melt shits down with playing something. Jisun picked up the ball, “But I can’t play.” “Do I look like I’m good at this?” He ran his fingers through his hair. Should he wear the headband? Hair could be distracting when playing. The person being asked was quiet for a while, “Honestly? Yes… I thought you’re on a basketball club at your previous school.” Jisun played the ball from one hand to another. “Actually you look like you’ll excel at any kind of sport, hyung.” “It’s a prejudice.” “A good one.” Jisun caimed, “So you’re not?” Minjun shook his head, “I’m as bad as you at this.” Jisun dribbled the ball clumsily while walking towards Minjun. They were some steps away now. Wow, Jisun was really bad at it. He couldn’t be that bad either. Right? “Now we have one thing in common.” Hearing that coming from Jisun made him cringe unintentionally. “So, are we playing or not?” Minjun was getting impatient, he even couldn’t help but eyeing the ball that Jisun held securely. "Yes." From outside, we could clearly hear screams, yelling, ball bouncing sounds and even the squeaking of shoes. Looked like those inside the court were having a fierce match. Despite all those chaotic images, when you opened the door, the views that would welcome you were far from what you had imagined. Bad players indeed, not only bad, both Jisun and Minjun were clumsy, as if they had never played basketball before. Which was impossible. They were practically only running around, tossing the ball, dribbling, chasing it, and sometimes kicking it playfully. To be fair, they did try to score a goal but you could guess easily that nothing fabulous happened. If ever a true player came and saw what happened inside, that person would be greatly offended by the actions. But they didn’t care. Who would care when the play was already fun as it was. It was as if Minjun hadn’t played for almost a full hour before, the senior was rather vibrant than he was before Jisun came. Playing alone is no fun indeed, he thought. The ball was rolling so fast again this time after Jisun failed to catch it from Minjun's passing. Again. Minjun stopped running in the middle, trying to catch his breath while smiling. The smile soon turned into a hearty laugh when Jisun tripped by his own foot and fell to the ground. Jisun laughed too, joining his senior. In an empty and rather huge indoor court with only two people inside, laughing freely, their laughter was echoing through all the hard surfaces inside. Made them hear how their laugh blended together and formed a new voice. It was overwhelming. But something good never lasts so long in Minjun’s list of events. “oh s**t!” Something came into Minjun’s mind suddenly. “Jisun-ah we need to go.” He grabbed his bag and slung it to his shoulder. “What, hyung? You tired already?” For someone who was drenching in his own sweat, Jisun sure was a big talker. But despite his question, he still followed Minjun nonetheless. Minjun was walking so fast that Jisun didn’t have any choice but to follow suit. “I only rented the court for one hour. Ck the operator said that he’d notify me when it’s time. Notify my ass!” Minjun was cautious with the time, he clearly asked the operator to tell him before the rental time ran out. Now, it’s been over forty five minutes since a full hour. f**k, Minjun was running faster. Sensing something was wrong, Jisun stopped being playful then asked, “What’s wrong hyung?” But Minjun didn’t say anything, the senior was checking the time on his phone and cursing for more. “Is it the additional charge for extra time?” Jisun tried. “I wouldn’t care if it’s only that.” They soon reached the cashier and were greeted by an overly friendly young man operator. “Hello, Ah you’re done already? Okay Okay, seems like you’re having a great time-” “Why didn’t you notify me? I even gave you my number in case you’re too lazy for it.” Minjun’s voice was not loud, but it made Jisun shivered seeing how Minjun was getting reeled up like this. The smile on the operator’s lips faltered for a moment but then it backed as fast as it was gone. “Aigo student~ I really really forgot about it.” “Forgot? You don’t even look that old.” Minjun pulled out his card and pushed it through the counter glass hole. “Quick, I’m in a hurry.” By appearance, the operator sure was not that old at all. If Jisun had to guess, he was probably around twenty five or something. Minjun casted a last glance at the whiteboard attached to the wall before pulling Jisun’s elbow with him. If they were super, super hurry, maybe Minjun could still avoid it. “Let's go-” But then their steps were halted by a group of young men, wearing basketball shirts just coming through the entrance. “Oi Oi, look at this… Isn’t it our Minjunie?” One of them talked, amusement was apparent on his face. “Aisshh.” Minjun hissed quietly. Pay them no mind, with one hand still holding onto Jisun’s elbow, he tried to walk again in another direction to avoid those men. But then another guy was blocking their way. “Why are you in a hurry?” Leader of the group, seemed like it, snickered. “Let’s play with us, Minjun-ah.” “Make a way, I need to go.” “Ah, come on. It’s been months since our last event. The race was so boring without you, y’know.” Okay, but this exactly looked like a scene Jisun always watched on a drama. Holy s**t! Is this when the leader of the gang gonna order his friends to beat them up?! I mean two versus six… no…. eight?! Jisun’s mind was frantic and a mess. He looked behind to ask for help but that operator guy was looking at the sight with an excited glint in his eyes. Almost as if that guy was wishing for a fight to happen. No use no use, Jisun thought. Then he looked at Minjun’s hyung face. Despite his senior’s handsome face, Minjun’s expression was way too challenging for his own good. Too intimidating, as if he was asking for a fight instead of wanting to escape. This is bad, this is bad. Jisun looked at those people one by one, alright if indeed he would end up being beaten by those uglies, he would at least make sure to remember each of their faces. There was no way he would let this pass so easily, he would at least make some score with them in the future. Just you wait when I’m older and stronger! Jisun mentally prepared himself.
