Actually there was more, one more reason Minjun had been pondering about. Jisun's laugh and that… eyes. Minjun was still not sure but he remembered exactly what he felt after he heard the younger laugh awkwardly. He remembered the pressure he felt being looked at with those curious eyes. Like he said he didn't have an idea what it was, but the s**t he felt that time made him bursted the words unknowingly.
But now he already knew what was the right thing to do. There was no need to think about it any further. Minjun snatched his phone from the desk.
[To: Han Jisun]
‘Jisun’
‘I can’t find the camcorder. forgot'
Minjun typed 'sorry' but deleted it again. I don't have to feel sorry about this, he thought. He shouldn't be sorry for everything he chose not to do because he had his own reason, and they didn’t have to know about it either. He should be sorry about himself though, because even after all these times he was still… pathetic. Yeah, that was right.
The phone at his side buzzed but he didn't bother to check it out. Probably it was Jisun's message saying 'it's okay hyung'. Or something close to that.
Then another buzz, still it didn't get Minjun's attention.
Then the buzz was getting more and more consistent, it woke Minjun from his almost dozing off.
Han Jisun is calling…
"Ck!" Minjun now lied on his side, his fingers were ghosting over his phone. Should I take it?
He took a quick glance at Sunny, his cat, who was curling in an odd state for its own comfort, napping. Looking at his cat could always give him some amazing ideas or solutions, so he stared for another second until the call was turned off on its own. Minjun scoffed, impatient. Minjun wandered some more then an absurd thought came to him. If it was Sunny who called, he would answer the call with no second thought. But imagine if Jisun was indeed Sunny and Minjun didn't answer the phone. What if it was some urgent situation like how Sunny was trapped on the sofa cleft like it always did and he called Minjun asking for help because no one was home? Minjun wanted to cry just by imagining it.
Then a call came again. Of course it was Jisun.
So he answered, "What? Are you trapped on the sofa?" It sounded much more curt than what Minjun had expected, but whatever.
No answer.
Minjun coughed. He had no nicer way to usher the person on the other line to talk.
"Minjun hyung?"
"Yes?" He rolled his eyes.
"Uh d-do you have free time?"
"I'm in my last year. Do you think I should have free time?"
"No." Minjun could imagine Jisun rubbing his nape. "OK then, sorry to disturb-"
"Wait. Spit it out." Minjun looked at Sunny who was now opening its eyes slowly. Minjun cooed at the small thing, scratching under her chin, feeling sorry for being noisy and disturbing it's nap.
"Uh the thing is…" He heard Jisun gulping. "Yunjin kinda already guessed that you won't bring the camcorder, so I came up with a back-up plan and tried to borrow it from my relatives. And I have it now. But… no one in the club wanted to help me as they claimed to be busy with their own tasks. And Yunjin said yours was just like this one I have. And they-"
Yunjin this, Yunjin that. It started to get on his nerves, really.
"Tell me without mentioning that name or I'll hang up." Minjun didn't mean to sound like a bad and bratty senior, especially to Jisun, someone who didn't know anything about what happened between Yunjin and him, but he really couldn't help it.
He heard another gulp, this time accompanied by the typical Jisun's awkward laugh.
"Chan hyung told me to ask you to come here and… help."
"Hmm."
"So, hyung, you'll come?" Minjun couldn't ignore the hopes in Jisun's voice. The boy probably thought that Minjun’s hum was an agreement.
"Of course not. I'm just wondering why Chan didn't tell me directly."
"Oh, I think his phone's dead."
He nodded which then he realized that Jisun couldn't see it. "Then tell him I can't. I haven't finished my homework."
A classic excuse, but it wasn't a lie. Minjun really needed to finish it. It was due tomorrow.
Jisun seemed doubtful though, it almost felt like the younger didn't want to hang up the call yet, maybe he was scared Chan would scold him for not being able to persuade Minjun. So because Minjun was a good and nice senior, he was willing to wait. Minjun waited until Jisun was ready to hang up or maybe heaved a sigh.
"Alright hyung, I'll tell him." Jisun sounded resigned, Minjun almost pitied the boy. Almost. But something like pity could never be able to change his unanimous decision. Minjun knew he couldn’t help anything even if he did come, it would be useless. He didn’t need anyone to waste their time just because of him. Minjun really didn’t like the guilt that would come after it.
Minjun was so close to hanging up the call when he heard something… strange. It piqued his attention and he tried to hear it clearly. He already guessed that Jisun wasn’t in a room or indoor area, judging by the typical sound you could always catch when you were outside. But there was a sound of a dog barking from far away. While a barking dog was not something so extraordinary that it attracted Minjun’s attention, the one he just heard sounded way too similar to that certain dog his neighbor had. He silently begged that certain dog to bark again to deny his suspiciousness, but nah, guessed he didn’t need it either. Every dog sounded the same, didn’t they?
Minjun was just confused, that was all. “I’m hanging up-”
It was not another barking sound, of course, that made Minjun stop his words. It was a person’s voice and it made his heart contract in a strange way. It sounded like…
"Mom?!" Minjun shrieked.
"Hey kid, are you looking for something? Someone?" It was unmistakably his mom’s voice on the other line.
"U-uh I- Hello-" Jisun tried to respond to the questions.
Minjun was panicking. "Jisun, I swear to God, where.are.you?" He asked through his gritted teeth. Minjun was no longer lying lazily on his bed, he sat on it, looking at bewildered Sunny.
"Uh hyung I'm sorry, Chan hyung told me to come to your house. He gave me the address. I- I was going to leave unnoticed but it seems like this lady has seen me-- I'm sorry for not telling you first. I'll greet her first, then leave immediately-"
"No, don't!"
Jisun didn't hear it. Of course.
Minjun groaned, Mom shouldn't know that Jisun was his friend, it would be… difficult. She would invite him in with no doubt and after that it would be extremely difficult for Minjun. He would be in a complicated situation. If Mom invited Jisun in, then Minjun had to be civil to the junior in front of mom. Not only that, mom would expect him to act all sweet and s**t to Jisun because it was how he acted towards mom.
Minjun ran his fingers through his hair.
It was too late though. Minjun could hear it from the phone, how Jisun greeted the lady that was his mom. Minjun also heard the old lady’s cheerful and warm voice greet Jisun back.
This was a last minute decision and Minjun really cursed both Chan and Jisun for this, mostly Chan. Minjun snatched his jacket-jeans, his wallet, then dashed out of his room to the front yard. He needed to make an excuse so that Jisun wouldn't stay there long or better yet leave immediately.
Minjun opened the door and was greeted by the sight of Mom, took the hands of Jisun and tried to pull him in, passing their front gate. No no no, Minjun internally screamed.
Jisun, on the other hand, looked troubled by this. He couldn’t have the heart to decline the offer, but Minjun hyung had made it clear over the phone that ‘it was not the right timing to visit’. If it was another time in another situation, Minjun would see Jisun’s face was rather comical right now. But he couldn’t be distracted right now.
"Mom!" He called while running recklessly towards them. Minjun almost fell on his face, it made Jisun yelp out of reflex.
"Ah Minjun, honey please tell your friend to come-" Mom frowned at how disheveled Minjun state was, which he didn't care at the moment. She also took a look at the jacket in his hand. "Wait, where’re you going? It’s Sunday."
