Chapter 05 : My wake up call

In all honesty Minjun really couldn’t shake off Chan’s suggestion to just take back his words so he could literally move on with his freeloader status. But on the other hand, he didn’t want to be seen as a coward much more in front of his junior, in this case Han Jisun. It would be really not so cool of him. So exactly two days later, Minjun pulled the dusty box under his bed. Not bothering to wipe the dust off, he opened the lid with a hammering heartbeats. Was he scared? Probably. He knew by heart what was inside the box, every single item, he memorized everything to the color of each. And that was the scariest part of this s**t. He couldn't move on. There was it, together with other heartsick stuff, the camera he got as a white day gift from her. Minjun let out a heavy sigh. He wasn’t trying to be dramatic, it was the least thing he wanted to exist in his life, but there were reasons why he buried all these inside the box and wanting but never dare to check on it too often. He hid it while making sure it was still there safe and sound. Minjun’s precious memories, how could he not hold on to it dearly, hide it perfectly and protect it with all his might when it came to his first love? How desperate Minjun was to strangle and slap himself after that one slip of tongue, you had no idea. And because of what? Just because he didn’t want to lose his face in front of a junior? Really Minjun? A junior that you barely know over Jung Hyemi? Oh, Minjun hated himself for that. fuck it! Of course Minjun already knew what to do. What should he hesitate about it? When the answer was already there, obviously. Minjun closed it back then kicked the box until it slided over and stayed under the bed, right where it belonged. Why did he have to do it? The club, Jisun, moreover that bastard Yunjin meant nothing to him, to his life. So why did he have to be involved with this? Why did he have to risk… whatever it was. Minjun lied on the bed and closed his eyes. It was a month after the white day when he got the camcorder. It was a gift from Hyemi on their own white day. After the awkward and funny valentine day they spent together (considering it was their first relationship and also how they were new about it either), Minjun had been waiting for the white day to make it up. At least by the time the white day came, they would be in a three months old relationship, so it wouldn’t be too stiff between them, right? But their white day was no like anyone’s though. Hyemi insisted on it, that their white day was not like others and that they had to do it when spring came so it would be more beautiful. Exactly a month later, April 14th was their official white day. Spring was Minjun’s favorite too so he wouldn’t argue with it. Hyemi was all excited to tease him looking at how excited Minjun was about it. “Are you really that excited for my present?” Honestly, Minjun was not too keen about the hidden present Hyemi was about to give him. While he appreciated the thoughts, Minjun was not someone who thought too seriously about a gift. What made him so excited about this ordeal was how brilliant Hyemi was to take him on a date under these beautiful and flowery trees around them. It made Minjun excited for their next valentine days in the future. Minjun thumbed his nose and scoffed, “I’m just nervous I would get a cheap one!” Minjun wanted to laugh when Hyemi screamed in protest and threatened not to give him anything for his mean words. Who was he kidding? Even when Minjun’s gift probably cost more than the camcorder from Hyemi, it meant nothing. "Ah! Just when will you give it to me?" He whined softly and jokingly which resulted in a weak shove on his side from the girl. "Ck and you said you weren't excited." Hyemi walked faster ahead leaving Minjun. They're enjoying the spring flower festival so it was normal that there are a lot of people here too. But Minjun could still find her even when she was being surrounded by the crowds. Well, the girl was the only one in uniform and jumping around with passion. Minjun quickened his steps when Hyemi motioned him excitedly to walk faster. Then he saw it, a perfect spot with a cloth already spread on the ground and there were some small food containers which Minjun couldn't wait to open. Hyemi made a small run at him then pulled him towards the already prepared picnic spot. "Come on young master, I know you're happy but I haven't given you anything yet. So move, move." Minjun laughed at the nickname, but didn’t bother with it either. "Who prepared all this anyway?” Minjun sat on the pink cloth and relaxed his body a bit. Hands itched to open the food container but he held himself to wait for a bit, he always had this excitement about food so it was a little bit hard. “You're with me the whole time." Hyemi giggled, "My friend.. we should thank him later.” "Your friend? Which one?" Minjun let Hyemi take away his backpack, then asked for her permission to finally eat all these fruits and snacks. "My friend. Ya! I've told you about him before! He loved racing just like you." Hyemi shoved him playfully, the trait Minjun came to love along the way. Didn't want to upset her, Minjun nodded. He kind of remembered the story but not that much. Minjun smiled, this was a perfect situation with a perfect person, he really didn't need to ask for more. He looked at Hyemi on his side when the girl heaved a sigh with a smile etched on those beautiful lips. "You guys could become best friends. I just know it!" She said excitedly. Minjun nodded and smiled too. “So, where is he? He won’t join us?” The girl turned to look around then shook her head, “He should be somewhere around here, but… I don’t know.” Hyemi looked at Minjun with a doubt in her eyes. “You sure want my friend to join us?” He laughed, “I don’t think I want to share my gift with a stranger. Not ready.” As if reminded, Hyemi took out a box from her bag. The box’s color, ah it couldn’t be more obvious, it was full of stickers with red color, adorned with a red ribbon too. Hyemi’s favorite. Minjun could only wish that his gift (whatever it was), wouldn’t be a blazingly red thing. Hyemi tucked a strand of hair behind her right ear and pointed at the box on Minjun’s lap with her chin. “Open it, oppa.” Minjun pulled the ribbon then opened the lid to reveal what was inside. There was another box. Thank God, it wasn’t some cheesy gift boxes inside the boxes, and Minjun had to open them one by one to find the real one. It was straight out of a commercial box of his gift. A camcorder. Sony HDR-CX405, was what the box said. “Happy belated white day.” Hyemi said with a beautiful smile on her face. A smile Minjun could never forget. It was an ordinary handycam. Just like how ordinary Minjun’s necklace was for Hyemi a few months ago. But none of them would ever expect that it was their last chance to give each other a heartfelt present. Minjun also never expected that the handycam would soon turn into something that was not only precious but also painful for him. Minjun opened his eyes to the ceiling of his own bedroom. It was no more than a year ago, but Minjun already felt so ancient about it. Also, he never knew what to feel when his brain decided to recall those moments he used to adore. But it was not unwanted either, Minjun was thankful even. Those memories would always become a wake up call. An alarm and siren of the sins Minjun had once committed.
