When the wind changes.

I dressed ready for battle. My hair had been braided tightly and pinned to my head in a snake-coiled bun. I'd been so nervous about all the events of yesterday. I was shaking, luckily someone knocked on the door. Probably Tye as I walked to the door, I was about to get a rude awakening. I smiled as I met Tye's gaze, only to catch Caspian and Dylan waiting outside too, causally leaning on Caspian's car. Shifting my Gaze back to Tye, he looked embarrassed at my uncomfortable questioning face, he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "My car got stolen last night. It's been found undamaged but in the next town," he explained. I grabbed his shoulder. "Are you OK? How?" I asked in surprise. He smiled nervously. "Stolen from outside my house about 3am, left the keys in it by accident after cleaning it out late last night." he shrugged, I shook my head. "That's so unheard of round here too." I sighed, nodding to the boys. "So?" He nodded. "Just for today.." He offered. I nodded, closing the door behind me, Tye let me pass as I headed for the car, Caspian and Dylan exchanged whispered words. Then, with a look at me, Dylan walked around the car and slid into the back of the car. I looked at Tye, he shrugged. "Suppose you're in the front," he replied, though his gaze was on Caspian when he spoke. I nodded, it just got worse. Caspian held the door for me. His cold expression masked what he was thinking, but his gaze burned into me as I slid into the front passenger seat. He closed the door, the heater was already running in his car, which was needed as it was a frosty morning. If 'me' of 4 years ago had been sitting here as Caspian got into the car, I'd have been thrilled, but the current 'me' now had too much to hide. I couldn't get involved with anyone or anyone with me, our paths would split on graduation day. The drive to school was about 10 minutes and about a 20 min walk. The first 5 minutes, everyone was silent, but for the tapping of Dylan typing on his phone in the back. Then Caspian broke the silence as I thought Tye was about to speak. "What do you have up first, Phoenix?" He looked over at me. I met his gaze, his face was emotionless, but the question hung. "Umm P.E Advanced." I replied, he seemed to approve as his mouth twitched at the corners. "Same." He replied. I looked across shocked, As such were the other two, as Dylan paused his typing and looked up, and Tye leaned forward. "Why Cas?" Dylan asked, His voice full of confusion. Caspian met his gaze in the review mirror. "Fitness." He replied, then added. "It's good to know one's body better." Then his gaze slid towards me. I looked away, 'wtf have I got myself into?' I thought. The car pulled up in the carpark close to the gym. Dylan got out grumbling about having science first, storming off. Tye and I seemed to be lost in our thoughts as Caspian broke the silence again. "You getting out?" He asked, startled and embarrassed. I nodded, I was about to apologise, when he added, "Tye?" Tye met Caspian's gaze in the mirror. Stealing a glance at me, he got out and disappeared amongst the crowd. I too went to get out, when the central locking clicked, I looked over at the driver's seat, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. "Shh don't get out yet." Caspian said quietly, holding a finger to his mouth. I follow his gaze as, not 10 ft away, Jetta strides past his car, casting a glance as she continues, thankfully the heavy tint obscured us inside the car, her friends in tow. I shrunk down into my seat. "That bitch.." I mumbled. Earning a chuckle from Caspian, Once she was gone. I gathered my stuff. This time he didn't stop me. "See you in class." I offered as I grabbed the handle of the door. "Yeah sounds good." He replied with an unreadable expression. I got out, heading for the back entrance of the Gym, suddenly feeling like I was being undressed, I walked a little quicker. I changed and as I exited the change rooms, I met Caspian exiting at the same time. I ducked my head down shyly, to move past him, I felt him follow closely. "Don't be shy now, you knew we were going to be in the same class," he said quietly. I looked over my shoulder and caught his eye. "Yeah but it doesn't mean we're instantly close," I replied. "And if I wanna be?" He pressed, surprising me for a second. I swallowed. "Too bad, I'm not interested." I replied before adding. "I already turned down one confession yesterday." I, smiled thinking of goofy Tye. The following silence indicated I'd said something wrong. When I looked over my shoulder, Caspian just looked unamused as usual before replying, "huh." I didn't reply further and I sat between the girls as Caspian gave me an annoyed look, before trudging further up the benches to where some of the boys sat. I breathed a sigh of relief, then listened as we were instructed to find our partner. I went to pair with another friend, Alexa, when she was pulled away by a guy I knew as Troy. She saw me and mouthed sorry. I made an OK sign. When a voice interrupted, "Just you and me.", I knew that voice. Fuck sake. I spun around, looking over his shoulder. I smiled. "Not just you." I countered. "Hey Alice!" I called out, the fastest girl in our school turned around as she argued with a guy called Conner. "Mmm Yeah?" She asked, her eyes widening at Caspain at my heels. "Caspian wants to swap." I stated, and before he could argue, she grinned, pushing Conner into Caspian's arms, as I stepped to the side. I giggled as Caspian's emotional mask split for a second, into a look of seething fury, towards me. I smirked, blowing him a kiss, as Alice took my hand and we headed for the treadmills in the upstairs gym room above the basketball courts. But my respite didn't last long. The downside was from the treadmill. I had a perfect view of the courts below and guess what Caspian strength was.. Boxing. Shirtless, sweating and toned, he sparred with Conner, who, after only 10 minutes, gave up, switching instead to hold a target mattress to absorb some of the jabs. Whilst Alice gushed over him, I myself had to try not to look, but he caught me twice, once brushing his hair back slowly with a boyish smirk I had never seen on his face. Alice fell to pieces, mumbling about finishing early to fix her hair. I, on the other hand, flushed but rolled my eyes. Turning off the treadmill, I looked at my watch. I had 20 minutes to go, so I headed for some light weights, only useful for toning. I'd only been 10 minutes in when I bent down to swap sets. "Now that's a view.." A voice said, followed by a low wolf whistle. I straightened, stiffening as I turned, my face heating as I realized that Caspian had not thrown his shirt back on yet. "f**k off..." I mumbled, putting the weights back. "Haven't heard the bell, still on class time." As he finished, the bell rang. "Saved by the bell." I returned with a smirk, his eyes glinted with something dangerous, but he said nothing and didn't follow me as I left the room. As I arrived at my next class, I grinned as I spotted Stella, pointing to an empty seat beside her. I made my way across the room, and sat down and got my books out. We had maths together with Mr Yen. He was a good teacher and very helpful. "So? You and Tye?" Stella asked, waggling her eyebrows. I chuckled, shaking my head. "Come on it's about time! He moved here for the second year of primary and has been in love with you ever since. Give him a chance!" "Yeah no, I'm not interested and I doubt he would be either, he just likes to joke and flirt." I assured her. "Yeah, well ask him to joke and flirt with me, I'd be up for it." Stella said with a sultry wink. I laughed in response. "I'll see what I can do." I replied, as a hissing voice interrupted us. " Where's the note?!" the voice asked. I looked up to see Jetta seated beside me, her friends on her other side. "What do you mean? I left it on the desk yesterday?" I replied confused, before adding, "You saw me leave it?" She rolled her eyes dramatically with a sigh. "Of course I goddamn saw you, but the note wasn't on the desk when I got there after you!" She growled. I thought for a minute and felt myself clamming up, though all she'd reply was ' I'm trying OK?' It was more a problem that someone picked it up. Then they misunderstood something was going on between her and Caspain and Jetta, like some rom-com romance. Which was not the case! "I don't know?" I bit my lip, then a horrified thought crossed her mind. The last class had been a homeroom meeting. Had Caspian picked it up? No way..
