Lunch time

1522 Words
It was finally lunch time and after the weirdness of the last 2 days, I wasn't staying on the grounds. I grabbed my bag out of my locker, heading for the gate along the boundary behind the gym. I passed the back of the gym, where a group of guys were standing or leaning having a smoke, I scrunched my nose as I passed but didn't stop. "eww.." I grumbled, I was not a smoker, but didn't care if others chose too, but didn't mean I like the smell. "I'll be back!" I heard a voice say, then the sound of someone jogging from behind me. "gotch ya!" I jumped in surprise as I felt someone pull on my bag strap. I looked over my shoulder already having a feeling who it'd be. "Don't you have someone else to annoy?" I grumbled, my body reacting against my will at Caspian's closeness. "Not today." He replyed unfazed, with a shrug as he feel into step beside me. I glanced at him, the waft of smoke still lingering around him, I looked forward again before asking. "You smoke?" I waited for an answer as, Caspian paused. "Would that be a problem? If I did I mean." He countered, I creased my brow. "Why would it be a problem? Doesn't effect my lungs in the slightest." I returned. "Well no, but I mean do like people the smoke?" He trys again. "I like people regardless of whether they smoke or not, I just dislike the smell if thats what you're asking." I returned with annoyed glare. He nodded, a glimmer of understanding and relief in his eyes. "Far enough, well No, I don't smoke myself but my mates do hence." He gesture to himself. "The smell." he lifted a shoulder in a shrug. I gave him a sidelong glace as I watch his face go back to its usual impassive mask, to most it seemed cold, to me it seemed like a habit he couldn't break. "So again, what are you doing?" I press. "Following you I suppose." He reply emotionessly. "You don't know where I'm going." I returned. "I suspected lunch." he replied. I rolled my eyes, exsasbarating with his offhand answers. We arrived at the public toliets and I head into the womens. "Need to go?" He asked, I turned around merely replying. "No need to wait for me, I'm skipping the rest of the day." Then I headed in. Getting changed I knew it was no use, he'd be waiting when I came out and I wouldn't be able to slip away so shoving my change of clothes back in my bag begrudingly, I accepted I'd be going back to school today. Sure enough there he was leaning against a pole 10ft from the door, he'd taken his jacket off and had his eyes closed against the afternoon sun, his muscles flexing of his crossed arms. I swung my bag over my shoulder, clearing my throat. Caspian lazily opened his eye,s meeting my cold gaze. "Lets go then.." I continued my way to the cafe, Caspian followed without a word, his cold aloof attitude causing people to move as we passed and the girls to point and giggle. I hated to admit that in all the years we'd gone to highschool together, he'd only got more handsome. He towered over most people as 6.4, but solid built and from what I'd seen in gym, quick on his feet. I passed the local hang out, giving it a sidewards glace as the boss sent me salute from the bar, he must have got my text. I tilted my head, then thumbed over my shoulder, he looked to Caspian behind me, and he leaned on the bar shaking his head. "You know that place?" Caspian asked over my shoulder, I shrugged in reponse. "Hard not to." I replied. "It's a rough place, you shouldn't hang around it late." he replied before adding. "Suppose you can't, its 18 and over only, after 5pm." I said nothing just nodded, what was the point of telling him I was. A few shops up we stopped at the cafe, Caspian held the door for me, I thanked him, wandering ahead. The lady at the Cafe looked up as we entered, her smiling face turning into blush as she took in Caspian trailing me. We took a seat just inside the door. against the window. The woman, Sally as her name tag read, who looked in her late 20's, dropped off two menus flttering her eyes at Caspian, who didn't look up once. Then she wentback to the counter without a glace at me. I sighed again I felt like I'd been doing that a lot recently. "What are you having?" Caspian asked breaking me from my thoughts. "Probably Nacho's and a Iced coffee." I replied without looking up before mumbling. "Though I could do with a whiskey or rum right now.." Caspian nodded, then frowned when he heard me mumble. "What was that last bit?" He asked, I snapped my menu shut. "Nothing, I'll go order." I made to stand when Caspian stopped me, "Let me" I paused then sat back down. His mouth turned smug at the corners, I leaned onto my hand, looking out the window as he headed for the counter. He returned quickly looking smug, sliding the recipt across the table. I tilted my chin, sliding my eyes to look at it. A number and Sally's name was scrawled across the bottom. I looked up at him raising my eyebow. "She gave you her number, what do you want me to do with it?" I asked with a bored tone, he leaned back in his chair, putting his hands behind his head. "Whatever you want." He said in the same bored tone. I looked down at it, picking it up I folded in into a paper airoplane and mailed it back towards the counter. To my suprise it landed in the tip bowl, I grinned, looking at Caspian he raised his eyebrows. "Nice." he remarked. At that moment Sally exited the kitchen bringing our order. After that we ate in a comfortable silence, then I let Caspian pay as a penalty for coming along, though he didn't seem to mind. I caught a glimpse of Sally opening the areoplane as we left, a sulky look on her face, I couldn't help but smile a little. Scary cougar haha. We made it back to school as the first bell rang, I had a spare period that I had intended to use to get paid on, but seeing as I was back here, I headed for the library. "You've got a spare?" Caspian asked, I nodded. "You?" I asked in return. "I've got Maths." he grumbled. "Nice." I grinned, I would be free for a class. "Don't go looking for me later." I said over my shoulder as we went our seprate ways. "I will.." I thought I heard him say. Caspian POV I'd been standing with the boys, we hadn't all caught up since school started but made plans to catch up Friday night at the local hang out "24 reasons." An 24hr Cafe/Bar. I only went after 5pm these days though there was a reason over 18s were only allowed in after 5pm, thats when the rough and ruggard came out of the woodwork for a drink, game of pool or a barefist brawl. The owner Big Merle was always quick to decide a winner of and make sure no one fought dirty in his bar. For me it'd been a haven since I turned 18 getting away from the girls at school, that was until Jetta had turn 18 herself and started coming to harass me there too. I'd spotted Phoenix as she passed and had skipped out, I knew the boys would be up me later but I wanted to get closer to her. I thought she'd be thrilled when I first approched her in art, then gym putting myself out there. But found she was unfazed, blushing and still tunrnig me down, I felt like each time I took a step towards her, I was pushed back. She hadn't said no directly, if she had I would of left her alone, it was more so just do what you want. So I did. Chasing after her, I wanted to spend time with her, I directly express I wasn't interested in just anyone at the cafe, though that woman might have been someone's type it wasn't my thing. I'd happily paid for lunch, she probably thought it a pain for me, but for me it was a first, I never bought any girl a meal. Even though I'd had flings, I'd never been interested in dated. Something itched at me the first time I'd seen her, like a recongising of another. Though her polished school efforts and normal friends, clashed with my own world. I wander into Math's still lost in my thoughts, only come to when I noticed Dylan nod me over and Tye. My friend Tye and the other guy.
