CH 18 New Beginnings

Leif was holding his knees and bent over panting after running through a few combat rounds with some of Harald’s personal warriors when he got a mindlink from Aslaug. "Leif, I need you here now!"
Leif instantly shot up. "Where are you, love?"
"At my sister's the pup is coming but something is wrong. I need you now."
Leif didn't answer instantly taking off towards her sister's hut. He threw open the door still half dressed in only a pair of pants and sweat beading down his forehead and his chest. He looked around to see what needed to be done. He saw Aslaug at the bottom of the bed in between her sister's legs urging her sister to push and saw an already tired woman using whatever energy she had left to try and get this pup out. She saw her mate using everything he could to convince her to keep going and that she could do this.
He walked over to Aslaug and knelt down to her and Aslaug looked up at him with worry and frustration. She smiled a tense smile at him and whispered, "She's been pushing for hours. The pup doesn't want to come out for some reason. She's bleeding and she's running out of energy fast. If we can't do something soon then she and the pup will die."
Leif nods then gets up walking to his soon to be sister. "Systir, I need to check on the pup can I touch your belly?"
She looks at her mate worried with tears in her eyes, she has wolf hearing and though Aslaug tried to be quiet she still heard what was said, and they both nod at him. He moves beside her to put his hand on her belly and Skuggi moves forward to talk to the wolf of their pup and a second later when he's back he looks worried. "The pup says that they are being held back by something evil. Their wolf thinks it’s a barrier of some kind to keep them inside." Leif nods smiling to her reassuring her and walks to Aslaug to tell her what is happening and she nods. "I need you here to catch the pup when it comes out."
Aslaug gets up without waiting for his answer but smiles when she hears Leif move into position. She moves towards the pup still in her sister’s belly and places her hand on her sister and begins humming. A second later a blue light starts to come from the inside of her belly and just as the light appears to shatter Aslaug shouts out, “Now push!” Her sister bares down squeezing her mate’s hand until a low crunch was heard and pushes with everything she has left in her and the pup slides out. The cord is wrapped around his neck and he was turning blue. Leif quickly removes the cord, and Aslaug comes forward with a warm clean cloth to clean the fluid out of his nose and mouth and starts rubbing his back to encourage him to breathe on his own. A few seconds pass by and Leif grabs the baby pushing some of his energy into the pup until the pup began to breathe then wails loudly. Everyone smiled releasing a sigh of relief all at once then the new mother and father began to cry just as hard as their pup. Leif wraps the warm cloth around the pup then hands him to Aslaug who quickly places him with his mother but just as she finally holds her son she starts grunting in pain. Aslaug looks up at her in confusion then places her ear to her sister's belly. "There's another pup in there." She moves to the bottom of the bed pushing Leif away ordering him to grab more cloth and clean water.
Once Leif arrives with the water Aslaug is soothing her sister, "I know it's hard, but you must push this pup out. They need you now."
"I can't do it. I have nothing left in me to give." She winces again as the contraction overwhelms her already tired body and her mate moves closer to her to try and help soothe her as best he can with their son now in his arms.
Leif looks at her then moves to her side, "Systir, these pups chose you to be their mother. Are you saying they chose wrong because you can't find the energy to bring this one into the world?" He places his hand onto her forehead pushing more energy into her and she shakes her head. "I am not weak. I am a warrior and I will not leave my pups today nor will I allow my weakness to cause me to lose any of them." With her newfound strength she bares down again pushing and screaming when the wail of her second baby is heard and she falls back onto the pillows utterly exhausted. She looks up and smiles at Aslaug who smiles back, "It’s a girl. You have a beautiful son and daughter, Dagny" Aslaug stands to bring the baby girl to her sister then goes back to her spot to help with the delivery of the afterbirth and to help clean her sister.
Once Aslaug is finished she helps her sister put one of the babes to her breast then she walks out to meet Leif who is standing just outside not wanting to see anymore of childbirth than he had to.
"Thank you for saving my sister and my niece and nephew." She looks up at him as her eyes start to water. Leif pulls her into his arms kissing her forehead and soothes her as she cries. "My love there is nothing that I wouldn't have done to make sure they all survived." Aslaug hiccups as she wipes her tears away causing Leif to laugh. She smiles then kisses him a short, sweet kiss in gratitude.
Leif places her back down as she asks, "Did you give my sister the energy to birth the second baby?"
Leif nods and she smiles again, "You were helping but still treating her like the warrior she is by letting her choose to fight for them." Leif nods again and Aslaug chuckles, "I was also giving her energy. I wasn't going to bring attention to it, but she had been laboring for over three days, and I knew she was tired."
Leif looks at her and chuckles at his perfect little mate. He kisses her forehead then truly looks at her, "I am the luckiest wolf in the world to have you by my side. I can't wait to officially be mated to you."
Aslaug smiles at him and snakes her arms around his neck and blushes. "I cannot wait. Only seven more days and you’re mine."
