Chapter 1 Promise

1003 Words
Sapphire's POV Several days ago "Run sweetheart, there is no time. I need you to listen to me, okay? Go find your daddy now!" My mom touched my face as she looked at me with teary eyes. "No mom please. I can fight! I won't leave you!" I cried before hearing more footsteps. "It's too late honey. I've already mind linked your father, he is coming to me. It's not safe here. I need you to leave! Now!" My mom said in her Luna tone so I had to turn around. "Mom, please, I don't..." "I love you so much Sap. Always remember that you'll find your fated mate when you shift, the one who'll cherish you forever. I promise, we'll be together someday. Please, please run, I love you." She said pressing a kiss on my forehead, "Go." I ran and ran until a loud and pained howl stopped me. I saw my father who was rush to me kneeled on the ground howling painfully. That had been my mom accepting her death. I was just 7 year old and didn't know what did losing mate mean, I just knew I couldn't eat the brownie she made, I couldn't hear she called me sweetheart, also couldn't bury my head in her neck every night. Present Standing beside the coffin, I looked at my mom. She was gorgeous. Her pale and fair skin, brown hair, bright green eyes always reminded me of her warm smile, one thing that I’m going to miss the most. If that day I didn't ask her to go hunting, if she didn't promised me, we hadn't met rogue attack. All because of me. Thinking of this, a tear betrayed me by escaping my eyes and rolling down my cheek. I looked at my father, Alpha James Black, on the other side of the coffin. His sobs made every pack member's heart shattered, and his sad howls made air froze. I couldn't stand the painful silence, turning and running to the forest. I really needed fresh air. I trekked on through the forest beside the Pack house, rounding up the hill toward the cliffs of lush clovers, which looked out onto our Black territory. The rushing water from the waterfall below drowned out all the sound around me. It was just me and my thoughts now. This was my secret spot where my mom often took me here playing around. Now she was gone. Grief builds inside my chest. Tears fill my eyes to the brim. I close my eyes, letting the tears run down the cheek. I inhaled a deep breathe only to exhale a grieving sob. I was never going to see my mom again. A strong hand grab my waist before my body leaned and almost fell down, "Be careful!" It's a boy. I look up only to see blue eyes. So beautiful. "Hey, I'm Blade Hill, son of Alpha Jake Hill. We attend to your mother's funeral." He looked at me with distressed expression. "Hum, so why are you here?" I asked. "I saw you running away and followed you. I think you need someone." He explained as he scratched his head shyly. "Thanks for your kind heart, but I don't need it." I replied coldly. Now I just wanted to be alone. "Aha anyway what's your name? You look pretty. I think we are almost in same age. I'm 10." He continued as he reached his hands, waiting a handshake. "Sapphire Black, 7." I touched the warm small hand, and a strange feeling hit me. "You feel it too?" Blade asked me after seeing my confusion. I nodded. "My father said only mates will have feeling like electricity, may be we're mates when we’re 18." I use my fingers to count silently. "That's 11 years later." He said. "It's a long time." "Sapphire, everything will be okay." "What if it’s not… what if we fall in love with other people before that…" I murmured. Blade turned angry and grabbed my hand tightly, "We have to promise to each other we won't fall in love with others." He said as he stuck out his little finger. I smiled and caught his finger, "I promise." I saw Blade pausing a while as his blue eyes turned white. I knew there was someone mind linked him. When he returned back, he said hurriedly, "My father called me so I have to go." Then he took off a necklace from his neck, "It's a sapphire necklace made by my mom. It can bless you." He said as he help me wear it on my neck. "No Blade, it's too precious. I can't-" "Keep it Sap. Someday you'll be my mate." I thought for a moment and nodded smiley. "Remember Sap, remember our promise!" He pressed his kiss on my forehead before he waved his hands turning to leave. "I will, Blade." I smiled as I waved my hands too, with one hand grabbing the sapphire on my neck. From that day on, I've never seen Blade Hill ever again. 11 years later "Sapphire! Where is our breakfast?! Get your as* up now!" Before getting up, I was woken in the usual manner by my half-sister Julia, the all-to-familiar feeling of ice cold water crashing onto me in a harsh and painful manner. The feel of the icy liquid as it hit the thin sheet that was my bed, instantly hitting my body in a sudden rush. My skin started burning from the shock of the temperature causing me to gasp. I screamed the first few times they had done it but now only a gasp fell from my lips due to the fact I used to it. After I cleaned myself up, I walked downstairs and started baking cookies for their breakfast. I stared at the plates that I touched and used every day and my rough hands that washed dishes and clothes every day. Was I supposed to live like this all my life?
