"I need Davis." Laura begged, her dry and pain ridden voice cracking with desperation as she twitched in pain on the hospital bed. "Please get him here now!"
Laura's body began to contort in ways she never thought possible. The contractions came like waves, each one crashing against her like a relentless tide. She felt like she was being squeezed from the inside out, her uterus compressing with a force that left her breathless.
Laura's wails shattered through the air. A raw and painful sound that seemed to rip from her very core leaving her breathless and shaken.
'I wish Davis was here already! Things would have been a lot better!' She thought with a strand of tear escaping from her eyes.
It had already been almost two days there with nothing to show for it. No baby no Davis. Two days ago, Laura was attacked by a group of rogues at the location where she lived.
And thanks to Patricia, she was barely able to escape with her life but leading to a premature labor.
"Get Davis, here today! I need him!" Laura's voice rose in a frantic pitch and a strand of tear forced itself out of her eyes as she could no longer stand the spine-drilling pain anymore.
"Take a deep breath, Miss Laura! We have already tried contacting him! We will try again until he is here!" The doctor muttered words, while Laura blurring vision tried to map out his face.
"Just calm down Laura! We are in this together!" Laura's best friends voice, Patricia was calm and smoothing
However, Laura's words were laced with desperation as she spoke. "I don't need you! I need Davis! My mate! My everything!"
A new doctor walked into the room, the pain that clouded Laura making her ignorant to the fact . He stood towering over Doctor James who was attending to Laura as she basked in even more pain.
Laura increased her voice thinking that she was going to be heard and Davis was going to be brought to her.
The new doctor's brows knitted, his lips compressing against each other as he was unable to speak about Laura's cry, eventually dragging the previous doctor out of the room.
"What's the situation with the patient? Why's she in so much distress?" Inquired the doctor.
"After our examination, she was forced into premature labor from an accident, it seems, and the children were displaced." Doctor James answered.
We have been trying to reposition them."
"And the yelling?" This time the doctor could not hide the frown on his face.
"You should understand better than anyone else that it's okay to make things more complicated right?"
"I'm trying my best to fix it!" Doctor James added with a deep sigh.
"Then try harder! We can't get anything done with that still going on!" The doctor's voice sounded firm and exhausted.
Doctor James let out a frustrated sigh. From the information that he had already gotten, Mr. Davis was the young lady's mate who had promised her the third heavens.
Laura still had her hands squeezed tightly to the white sheets of the bed as she waited for her man, rolling on the bed in stiff pain.
"He told me that he would be with me in the slightest pain.... Why isn't it here yet? Did something happen to him?" Genuine panic laced her face.
She wished that she wasn't so weak that she wasn't even able to move a finger. She would have gotten the cell phone to make the call already.
The doctor's face dripped with concern as he approached Laura. His eyes mirrored the weight of her struggles.
"Good day, Miss! I assure you that you will get better soon but you have to be calm! Shouting won't help!"
"Then call him before me. That's all that I request for!" Laura said with the pain still in her eyes. She didn't believe them. Something in the way that he spoke to her, the way he quivered between his legs told her she was being lied to.
The eyes of the doctor flashed right before Laura as he jerked back in his steps.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea!"
"You wanted me to calm down right? That's all that's needed!" Laura replied breathing heavily to control the pain and at least, make out words.
The doctor's eyes widened as they bore right through Laura. He had never seen anyone in so much pain before.
His breathing slowed down in a failed attempt to control himself and Laura could see right through him, his face dripping over with sweat betraying his concern.
“Okay!” He replied with a husk tone.
Finally, the phone rang once, twice, the silence between each ring stretching out like an eternity. Then a strange voice answered, his tone like a punch to Laura's guts.
"I have told you already! Attend to her and make sure that nothing happens to her baby! That's the only thing I have connections with there!" Laura's heart froze upon hearing these words.
"You heard that! He can't come over!" Said the doctor shaking his head pitifully.
However, Laura kept going through these words quite for a while. That could not certainly be her Davis.
The one that had folded his hands into her. And loved her despite what everyone else did.
For short, he was the only reason that she was currently living. There was no way that he could say such a thing.
"I would stay by your side through this!" His voice from just a week ago filtered into my hearings.
"How could he be saying such words now?"
"You didn't call him, did you? You called another number!" I tried voicing my anger but I was barely able to do anything from my weak state.
It had to be a mistake. A terrible one at that. That could never be her Davis.
"We will have to perform surgery!" The doctor's words finally came through softly.
"It's the only means to save her life. And maybe the children's."
Laura was prepped and the injection nailed into her vines. The pain slipped away gradually together with her consciousness.
"There's no way that was you, Davis! You can never say that!" Laura muttered to herself, gradually slipping away.
*******
"Alpha Davis?" Laura tried making out the figure that sat with her on the bed at the moment but her face was washed with disappointment seeing that it was just Patricia.
"I'm here Laura!" She said as my eyes ran through the hall.
"Doctor! She's awake already!" She called out and the doctor soon walked in.
"Where are my children?" Laura inquired.
"Doing okay for now! You need to get all the rest that you need then we will get them to you!" The doctor said,
Laura wasn't buying what he was saying. Shouldn't the children be handed over to her immediately on the normal procedure? Why was she feeling that the hospital was so weird?
"And what's the big deal with seeing them now?" She inquired. Laura's week and heavy words almost below a whisper
"We had a few complications during the surgery and we are still trying to get everything fixed. But we will tell you in due time!" Said the doctor before leaving.
Too weak Laura was that she could not even lay a single complaint. The children that she had experienced so much pain for had been taken to only the moon goddess knew where.
"Where are you, Davis!" A strand of tear escaped from her eyes as she whispered silently.
"You promised that you were going to be with me through the whole procedure! It was so hard for me, Davis! And it's still hard now!" More tears escaped from Laura's eyes as she thought
Just then, a strange heat coursed through her body. Laura tried moving but the pain that she felt going through my body equaled childbirth.
She almost blacked out but could still hear voices in her head. Her face had suddenly broken up into cold sweat and it was more like someone was breaking into her heart.
"What's wrong with her? Doctor, you will have to do something!" Laura heard the yells of my best friend in her most confused state, like far distanced whispers. The beeping of the machine beside the bed now echoing through the distress cries of Patricia.
Laura's heart flustered as she gradually slipped into the world of the great beyond. But her eyes seemed to linger for the doctor's response.
Laura already knew the answer but she was afraid to face it. Cause it was a truth that she once never knew was even possible.
Tears bleed down from Laura's eyes as the doctor's words filtered right into her hearing at that instant.
"I think her mate is breaking the bond with her. That would be possible if he has an Alpha gene!" Replied to the doctor.
Those were the last heart piercing words that Laura heard before slipping into unconsciousness.
