But Marco didn’t understand my hint. Even if my eyes popped out, he wouldn’t understand that I wanted him to stay quiet. The man was so serious.
“Son, what are you saying?” Tita Margareth looked so confused.
Marco got everyone’s attention. How I love to be eaten on the ground. He’ll make things worse for me if he doesn’t stop.
“I’ll marry Athena,” Marco said with seriousness.
Oh dang! This is it, I’m doomed.
But instead of anger, his parents and my parents laughed.
“What the hell, Marco? Stop making fun of your brother! If you could only see Jacob’s face, he nearly believes you!” Tito Randal said in laughter.
I faked my laugh too. As if I thought he was kidding too. But Marco’s expression does not change, he’s serious.
“I’m serious, Athena and I will be married,” Marco said, and continued eating.
How can he act like it’s nothing? Like he’s saying something normal. What the heck? Our parents weren’t aware of me and Jacob’s break-up! What will they think of me? A slutty woman who jumped onto my ex’s brother?
“We already slept together, I’m taking responsibility,” he said as a matter of fact.
Dang! What the?! How can he casually say that?
“Athena?” My father called me in a warning tone.
I am getting nervous. What will I tell them? That Marco is lying? That he’s making fun of us.
“Athena,” my father called my name again.
“D-Dad…” I stuttered.
How can I lie? How will I escape this situation? I should be the victim, but why am I being the villain? Why do I get all the blame?
“I-I… w-we…” I don’t know how to start explaining.
“We already broke up,” Jacob told them.
The atmosphere became serious. Everyone stopped eating except for Marco. He’s not even bothered! He started it yet he’s just cool.
“That doesn’t mean she can marry my eldest son!” Tita Margareth raised her voice.
My heart began to beat so fast. It’s like I’m in a marathon. Not only did Tita Margareth’s voice made me nervous, but my parents' glaring eyes. If they could only slap me now, they would.
“Athena, is that true?” My mother asked me.
I slowly nodded. There’s no point in denying everything.
“I caught Jacob and Sally banging each other,” I told them.
Sally’s eyes widened. She didn’t expect that I would tell them that here. There’s no point in hiding things. They had better know everything all at once.
“Are you saying that Jacob cheated on you? That’s why you hooked up with his brother?” My father asked me.
“No…”
“Then what, Athena?” My father’s voice was calm yet cold.
“I didn’t know he was his brother,” I told them with all honesty.
I got no reaction from them. It didn't seem like they did not believe me. But does it even matter if they believed me or not? I am the one at fault in their eyes. Whatever I say, doesn’t matter.
“Is it true, Sally? You slept with Jacob?” My mom turned to Sally.
My sister acted shocked, as if she was accused. I knew it was coming, there was no way she'd admit that. I’ll be the villain, here.
“No Mom, of course not! Why would I do that?” Sally answered.
See, she won’t admit it. She will let me take all the blame.
“It doesn’t matter! You’re disgusting, Athena!” Tita Margareth said furiously.
Her words cut down deep into my heart. It hurts, truly it’s disgusting for her that I slept with her eldest son, even though I dated her youngest.
“Your words, mom. She’s my future wife,” Marco said.
Oh, gosh! I have a headache with this man. He’s defending me from his mom, that’s touching, but that’s his mom!
“Seriously, Marco? You wanted to marry that woman?” Her mom cannot believe him.
Well, who would believe him, anyway? Even I, myself, cannot believe this man. I don’t think he is sane. It is very obvious that he knew me from the start, and yet he’ll marry me.
“Yeah,” Marco answered his mom.
He stopped eating because he was done. I cannot believe this man did finish his food despite the situation.
“Are you crazy?!” His mom angrily asked.
Marco just shrugged.
“Let’s go home, I can’t stay here anymore. It’s disgusting!” Tita Margareth said and glanced at me.
I know she’s talking about me when she said the word disgusting. They all stood up. My parents are apologizing to their family while they are leaving the dining room. I was left there, feeling empty. Sally, Jacob, and Marco remained too. After our parents left, Sally began to show her true colors.
“Aww poor sister, they’re disgusted with you,” she said mockingly.
I wanted to throw her my plate, but that would be a waste. The plate doesn’t deserve to be broken by her thick face.
“Sally,” Jacob warned her.
That surprises me. He stops Sally. But the thought that he did not tell the truth earlier about their affair made me angry. They want to come clean and take all the blame. Tss, such trash, they deserve each other.
“What? It’s true, your mother is now disgusted at her,” Sally continued.
“Are you happy now?” I asked her.
I can’t believe she was this evil.
“Yeah, but not enough,” she answered me.
“What more do you want?”
I am tired of the things that are happening.
“Everything, I want all the things that make you happy,” she said and laughed.
She’s crazy, I can’t believe there’s someone who can think that way. Someone as greedy as she is. My family gave her a home, fed her, and made her a part of our family, and yet she still ruined me.
“Do you think there’s something left?” I asked her.
“Hmm…” She glanced at Marco.
Does she think I care? If she wanted Marco she could have him also. Tss, what a d**k-starving b***h. But a part of my heart suddenly ached. What if someday I fell in love with someone? Is she going to still be my man again? Is it going to happen, again and again?
“I don’t like you, woman. Don’t look at me with those disgusting slutty eyes,” Marco said coldly.
I instantly looked at Marco. Dang, he’s so cold, how can he say that to a woman? He glanced at me, but his eyes softened.
“Let’s go,” he said and stood up.
I don’t know but I obeyed him. I stood up and walked out of the dining room with him.
I thought we were peacefully leaving the house, but no. My parents are in the living room and their eyes are burning in anger when they see me.
“Athena stay.” The cold voice of my father made me shiver.
