I sighed. I heavily sat down on my swivel chair. How could this happen to me? It feels like the universe hates me. After some hurtful words from my parents, they told me to leave. I obeyed them without even explaining myself. And I don’t think there is an excuse for what happened, it was clearly my mistake. Being heartbroken is not an excuse to neglect all my duties and responsibilities here at work.

“So how was it?”

I looked at the person who entered my office without knocking on the door. My evil adopted sister.

“Thank you,” I said.

She didn’t expect that. I’ll still thank her for talking to Mr. Antor, but I still hate her for betraying me. I will never forgive the two of them who made me a fool. I trusted her so much, but look what she did. She stole my man and slept with him.

“Aww, you’re welcome dear!” She sweetly said, but her smile looked so evil.

This b***h!

“If you have nothing else to say, can you please leave?” I asked her politely.

Even though I want to slap her real hard, I know my parents won’t like us fighting, so I must hold myself back. I hate her to the depths of the sea, but I love my parents at the height of the sky.

“I have something to say,” she started to get serious.

I stayed silent and waited for what she wanted to say. I will always stay as calm as possible, though I really want to pull her hair, make her kiss the floor, or even let her borrow a face from a dog.

“I’ll get everything you have, I will steal all the things you value,” in full of conviction she said.

I stared at her. She looks hateful, but why?

”With all honesty, Sally, will you please tell me if I ever treated you badly?” I asked her.

She just raised her left brow and smiled evily. She didn’t answer my question and just left my office. She cannot answer because she knew to herself that I have always been so nice to her. The fresh wound in my heart started to ache again, it’s bleeding again. I just can’t believe that she would betray me. It is really hard to trust people nowadays. The next thing you know in there’s a knife stabbed in your back, but it’s not the stab that hurts, it’s knowing who holds the damn knife.

I don’t know how long I stared at the thin air. I came back to my senses when Linda entered my office.

“I’ll go ahead,” she said.

I checked the time on my wristwatch, and it was already five in the afternoon. Time to go home. I nodded at her. She looked sad, maybe because she knew what happened back in my father’s office.

I picked up my pouch and stood up. I have to go home also. I guess no more drinking for tonight. I am too down, I don’t feel like going out. I just want to lay on my bed, feel all the pain and disappointment.

Getting out of my office is one of the mistakes I made today. Right in front of my eyes was Jacob, talking to my parents with Sally. My world stopped for a few seconds. My father glanced at me but immediately looked away. They just talked there as if I didn’t exist. That hurts, that hurts real bad. My heart has been broken, but right now? It got pulverized. Funny how they can hurt me this way. I wonder if they knew? I wonder if my parents knew how those two people betrayed me? I wonder if they care…

I went home to my condo unit. I didn’t feel like eating, so after taking a bath, I went to my bed and lay there. Staring at the ceiling, tears just falling non-stop. I don’t know how long I stayed like that.

My phone started to ring and when I checked it, It’s Rana she’s calling.

“Yes?” I answered lazily.

I am not really in the mood right now.

“Are you crying?” She asked from the other line.

I cleared my throat before answering her.

“Uhm, no.” I lied.

“Can you come over here?” She asked.

I am pretty sure she’s in a bar. The music is not that loud, but I can still hear party music in the background. She’s probably outside. I am not in the mood to go out, but I know I won’t be able to sleep tonight without the influence of alcohol.

“Just text me the location.” I told her.

After receiving the location, I started to get dressed. Good thing it wasn’t the usual bar I went to. I guess I won’t have to face that man I slept with. I smiled to myself, ha! It was hilarious how he said he'd marry me. Duh! as if he knew me, he doesn’t even know my name! What a funny man.

After getting ready, I went out of my unit and drove straight to the location Rana sent. I don’t know why, but on the road I felt something. I felt kinda nervous, I don’t know why. Oh! God, Athena, it’s just a bar. You’ll just drink and then go home, sleep. That’s it!

After convincing myself, I finally arrived at the place. I parked my car and went out. I walked straight to the entrance. To my surprise, Rana was there, and she seemed like she was waiting for me. Which she rarely does. I’m starting to get confused.

“H-Hey,” she greeted me.

“Hey…”

She held my hand and guided me to enter the bar.

“I hope you can still forgive me…” she whispered.

My heart raced when I heard her whisper. What the hell is she planning?

Before I could even ask her what was going on, she stopped. I looked at the table where we stopped and there was the man I was avoiding. He’s sitting there on his phone again and when he noticed our presence he put his phone in his pocket.

The man that is extremely handsome and hot is looking straight into my eyes. I smiled awkwardly.

“H-Hi!” I waved at him.
