I woke up the next morning determined to get away from here. I was human now. I could easily leave and not have to worry. There was no risk of me going feral or turning into a rogue. I needed to make sure there hadn’t been any changes to my school. I also need to find a new way out. But first I needed to check my email. I usually checked my email at the local library on days I worked.
I made my way to Alpha Jayson’s office to ask if I could be taken to the local library. What did I have to lose? I stood in front of his door for what felt like an eternity, but really only a few minutes. I lightly knocked, hoping he would not hear me. But then I heard a gruff “Come in.”
I entered his office for the first time. It was surprisingly bright with white furniture scattered throughout the room. It felt like a room where I could curl up with a great book and spend the entire day.
Jayson quickly stood up from his desk and rushed to me. “Is everything OK? Do you need something?”
“I was hoping somebody could take me to the public library? I really would like to get some books and maybe check my email.” As soon as the words left my mouth I began to hold my breath.
He seemed to really be thinking about how to answer my question. “You can check your email on my computer and I will order you any book you want. There is no need for you to borrow a book ever again. I was thinking maybe I could take you shopping for some new clothes too.”
I didn’t want to leave a trail and check my email on his computer. I wanted to take the drive to see where I was to plan an escape.
“Oh um that’s OK, I don’t really need to check my email. And you don’t need to buy me clothes. I am fine with what I already have but, thank you.” I turned to walk out of the room, but before I could get to the door, he grabbed my arm.
I flinched expecting him to pull me painfully back but he didn’t. “I’m sorry for scaring you. I just wanted to spoil you. Can I spoil you?”
“I really don’t know how to answer that question.”
He smiled “Great! Let’s go!”
Before I can respond, he has his hand on the small of my back and is leading me to the front door. As soon as we get outside, I see the same black SUV waiting for us. I get in the car and focus on the turns we make.
After about 45 minutes, we pulled into the mall parking lot. I really didn’t want or need anything, but I figured it was a great way for me to find the best route away from the pack house. After 2 hours of walking around and going from store to store, I was tired. So we stopped for lunch.
“Are you having a good time? You haven’t really picked out much. You know I am going to pay for anything you want.”
I smiled “I am having a nice time. Thank you.”
We made one more stop for Jayson to get me a cell phone. I have never had a cell phone and I tried to tell him I didn’t require a phone, but he wouldn’t listen.
Finally, we were on our way home and I was again watching the route taken and trying to memorize everything I seen.
As we entered the Pack House I couldn’t wait to make my way upstairs to my room. A nap was in order. But the moment we stepped in the door, Milly threw herself into Jayson’s arms. He caught her and wrapped his arm around her waist.
“Baby, I missed you so much. I thought we were going to spend the day together.” I didn’t wait to hear his response. I quickly ran up the stairs to my room.
