Chapter 14

I sat down on my bed and took a deep breath. Why did the scene with Milly upset me? I didn’t want him. He could keep her but I didn’t want it thrown in my face. I pulled out the phone Jayson had purchased for me. He had entered his contact information and Camilla’s. I tapped on her name and sent her a text message. While waiting for her response, I checked my email. Nothing had changed with my scholarship. Which brought a smile to my face. How to get to the city. My original plan was to just run in my wolf form. Without Nova, I needed another plan. I’m not sure when I fell asleep but I was awakened by a knock on my door. I opened the door to Jayson holding a dinner tray with a smile. “I thought you might be hungry.” “I am not but you should take it too, Milly.” With that, I shut my door and went into the bathroom. I could hear him knock again but I didn’t bother. I stripped my clothes off and took a really long shower. When I was done, I went right back to bed. The next morning, I woke up to Camilla in my face. “It’s about time you got up.” “What time is it?” “7AM and I brought breakfast. I wanted to spend the day with you! So get up, let’s go, let's go!” “Thanks Camilla, but I don’t feel like going anywhere.” She looked up at me with the most pathetic face. “Fine, but have you cleared me leaving with the Alpha?” I could tell she was debating telling me the truth. Then it dawned on me. “He isn’t even here, is he? He is out with Milly.” “He is, but it’s not what you think. But that isn’t my place to tell you. So where do you want to go?” She asked, quickly changing the subject. That’s when it dawned on me. That was it! This was my chance. “I really want to go to the library.” By the look on Camilla’s face I knew she wanted nothing to do with the library but she nodded her head yes. “Perfect!” I said with a bit too much excitement. “I just need to clean out my book bag so I can bring home a ton of books!” Camilla rolled her eyes at me and told me to be in the kitchen in 15 minutes. I quickly changed to one of the new outfits Jayson bought me on our shopping trip. A pair of skinny jeans with a tank top and wrapped a hoody around my waist. I tried to make my book bag look a little empty and headed to the kitchen. As I was making my way to the kitchen, I heard two of the pack members talking. “Oh, Milly is so lucky! A romantic weekend with the Alpha.” The shorter of the two smiled. “I know I hope I find my mate soon. I want what they have. Milly tells me all of the cute things he does for her.” I didn’t stand around to hear anything else. I entered the kitchen to find Camilla waiting impatiently. I am grateful she doesn’t pay that much attention to me. We headed outside and this time there was not a black SUV, but a purple Charger. She quickly climbed into the driver's seat. I placed my bag on the back seat and we headed towards my freedom! A short time later, we pulled into the library parking lot. This has to be the largest library I have ever seen. I was so excited. I quickly grabbed my bag and followed Camilla into the library. Camilla followed me around for about a half hour before I found a book and a corner in the library with a large window and two big comfortable chairs. I curled up with the book I found and waited for Camilla to get bored. It happened so much sooner than I thought. “So, on a scale of 1-10, how mad would you be if I went to get my nails done while you read that book?” Relief rushed through me. This was it. “Like a negative 10. I have been itching to read this book. So go get your nails done. I will be right here waiting for you.” I did feel a little bad lying to her. She had been my only friend, but I had to think of myself. I promised Nova I would continue to live and this was the only way. “Great! I will be gone maybe an hour and a half and then we can get lunch.” With that she jumped up and turned the corner. I waited till I saw her purple Charger pull out of the library. I quickly found a piece of paper and a pencil sitting by computers used to search for books. I wrote a simple note: I am sorry! -Jaclyn I set my phone on the chair and placed the note on top. I quickly made my way out of the library. Once I was outside, I started walking toward the center of the city. The first person I came to was a little old man feeding the birds. I asked how to get to the bus station and found it was only a 5 minute walk. Before getting to the bus station, I stopped at a little gas station and grabbed a baseball cap and a large white t-shirt. I put my hoody in my backpack and pulled the shirt over my tank top. I placed my hair into a bun and placed the cap on and pulled it lower to cover my eyes. I walked straight into the bus station. I got a ticket on the first bus to leave. I was headed to Ohio, which was not the direction I needed to go, but I needed to leave now. 10 minutes later, I was sitting on the bus as we pulled out of the station and on my way to Ohio. Knowing I had managed to get away allowed me to fully relax and, for the first time, I smiled. Like a real smile and I was happy.
