chapter 1: The Empty house speaks
Areeba froze in the dark room. The whisper behind her still echoed in her mind. “You shouldn’t have come here…” She quickly turned around, flashlight shaking in her hand—but the room was empty. No one was there. Only silence… and dust floating in the air. Her heartbeat was loud in her ears. “Okay… calm down,” she whispered. “There’s no one here.” But the house didn’t feel empty anymore. Areeba tried to go back, but suddenly her stomach dropped. The door… was gone. In its place was only a solid wall. Her breath caught. “No… this is not real.” She rushed forward, touching the wall again and again—but it was real. Cold. Hard. Unmoving. Her phone vibrated. Hania was calling. “Areeba! Get out right now!” Hania shouted. “Something is wrong with that house!” “I can’t!” Areeba panicked. “The exit is gone!” There was silence on the call for a second. Then Hania said softly, “Find another way… just leave.” Call ended. Areeba turned slowly. The house felt heavier now. Like it was watching her. Then— A soft sound came from upstairs. Step… step… Footsteps. Areeba looked up instantly. Nothing. But the light from earlier flickered again… coming from a room down the corridor. She hesitated. “Just check… then leave,” she told herself. She walked slowly toward the room. The air became colder with every step. The door was slightly open. Warm light spilled out. Her hand touched the handle— It was warm again. She pulled it back. “No… not again.” But something forced her forward. She pushed the door open. Inside was a single chair… and a flickering bulb. And on the chair— A photo. Areeba picked it up slowly. Her face turned pale. It was a group photo… old… faded. And one of the girls in it… looked exactly like her. Her hands started shaking. “This… this is not possible…” Then the bulb flickered violently. A voice whispered again. “You came back…” Areeba dropped the photo and stepped back. The chair moved slightly on its own. Her eyes widened in fear. The voice echoed one last time: “This house remembers you…” Suddenly— Everything went dark. Areeba’s scream echoed inside the empty house… And then… silence🤐
