Chapter 3 Distraction

1220 Words
Warm clear water rushes over Mia's toes, her head was leaned back and a huge sigh of relief mixed with the sound of calm waves hitting the beach. In this moment everything felt like it was going to be alright, she didn't feel overwhelmed or any of the sadness. It was late in the evening, her parents was already figuring out dinner. They had been on vacation for five days, she knew it was just about time for it to end. Her parents had plenty of responsibilities back home, but now with the thought of the vacation ending it was time for Mia to truly figure things out for herself. she hadn't talked to anyone about not going back home, she just wanted to be able to slip away and turn herself into something that someone would eventually find valuable. she wanted to be the reason someone smiled, the reason someone breathed and the only way that was going to happen is if she got away and got herself into the real world. She tilted her head down to watch the water splash over her feet, pulling out her phone and snapping a picture she decided to post it on f*******: with the caption 'Warm clear water to wash away the past, time for a bright new future to begin'. After she posted it, her mother waved her down and motioned that it was dinner time. --------------------------------- The restaurant was nice, dinner was ordered and they were snacking on appetizers. The conversation was about flying back home, Mia hadn't really commented on it and instead way lost in thought. Her mind would pull her back into the conversation long enough for her to follow along with what was being said. Her dad was desperately trying to convince his wife to stay longer, but it's didn't matter what he said because in her mom's eyes the vacation was over and it was time to go back home to her animals. In this particular situation her mother's words was law and there was no way to change it. "Mom's right, it's time to put this to an end. I have something I'd like to share though. Some news that I have decided on." Both sets of eyes turned towards Mia and both faces seemed excited for their daughter to speak. "I have decided that once we finish our vacation... I will be moving out and starting my own life." Silence took over the dinner table, her parents had shocked looks on their faces and you could tell very easily that no one expected to hear those words. Amelia always thought that she'd never have to worry about this day, so only one word came to her mind. "Why?" They had everything that was needed for their daughter to live comfortably, they could afford anything she could ever want. In Amelia's eyes there was no reason for her precious babygirl to leave, so what could have made her make this decision. Both women sat there and stared at each other for what felt like forever, finally Mia started to speak. "Mom this is a decision that I made for myself. It's something that I've been needing to do, it will be for the better. Maybe not at first, but it will in the end." Mia reached out and took her mother's hand into her own, looking into her eyes Mia could see every emotion that passed through her mom. It was very easy to see that this was not what either of her parents expected her to say, but before she could continue her phone rang. The ringtone cut through the silence that was starting to build, a frustrated sigh left her lips as she pulled out her phone and looked to see who was calling at such a random time during the late evening. Jasper. That name made Mia angry, but at the same time made her want to cry. Her eyes teared up as she watched it ring for a moment, finally the phone went to voicemail and grew silent. She set it down and looked up at her parents who watched her the entire time, a sigh left her father's lips and her mother nodded as if she understood now why her daughter decided to leave. "It's just for the best Mama, I need to go. I need to start my life and let go of the childish girl that I have been these last few years." Mia stood up before her tears spilled from her eyes, she let out a whine as she whispered excuse me. Now her new goal was to get to the bathroom before everyone in the restaurant heard her sobbing. Seconds away from the door to the ladies bathroom Mia thought she had made it without anyone noticing, but the mens bathroom door opened and a man stepped out. Mia want paying attention to what was in front of her at this moment, she was busy setting loose tears as she watched her own feet. BAM Mia was stumbling backwards as the man in front of her gripped onto the wall to help keep on his own feet, in a matter of seconds he looked up and seen a tear streamed face Mia lose her balance. So the man quickly reached out and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her towards him. They landed entangled together on the floor, his back pressed up against the wall. A moment of silence took place as both looked at each other, trying to process what just happened. His devilish eyes making their way over Mia's body, taking in every inch of her. He almost looked like he wanted to devour her, but that hungry looked softened and turned into worry as he looked back up at her face. it was obvious that the girl had started crying, although now she was just confused and a bit dazed. "Who would make such a beautiful woman cry on such a beautiful night?" The man asked the question as he reached out to stroke her cheek, Mia froze her eyes glued to his. A deer in headlights. What was she supposed to say? What was she supposed to do? The whole situation hadn't really processed yet in her head, but was very quickly starting to come into the light. Mia started to panic and pull herself up, but the man pulled her right back down forcing her to look into his eyes. One of his hands gripped both of her wrists pulling them down between their bodies, his other hand gently tucked strands of her hair behind her ears. It was clear he wanted an answer, but she definitely wasn't sure how she ended up in this moment. It was the first time, since she found out about Jaspers new planned out love life, that Mia actually felt seen and that the person who was looking at her seemed like they wanted her. "Just an ex. No one important and someone that I want nothing to do with, someone I want to let go and forget." She tried to pull herself away since she had answered the question, but the man didn't let her move an inch as he continued to watch her now struggle. "Would you like a distraction?"
