1. Aiden And Abetting
Aiden Kinsley was an asshole. He knew he was an asshole, but he was also an asshole with morals. Why be untrue to yourself with faux niceties when you are doing the world a favor by putting your true self out there for the universe to see. At least you wouldn't be disappointing anyone when they finally figured out the real you that was lying under all the small talk and politeness. As for morals-they were there. Buried deep underneath a facade of arrogance, cold cockiness and s*x appeal, he had deep rooted beliefs that he strived to adhere to. Ingrained into him by a father who was stricter than most and genteely smoothed into him by a mother who spent most nights sipping cocktails before knocking out on a cocktail of prescription drugs that helped her sleep through the night. The next day she would take another cocktail to get her through the day. Uppers for daylight, downers for after hours. It was a routine that would eventually take her life as completely as it curdled her liver-along with the mass amounts of alcohol she plied herself with daily. His mother had been more of a ghostly apparition when Aiden was at home, floating from room to room, mumbling to herself and taking her place at one end of the dining table where she drank her dinner. When his father decided on an early retirement after being ousted by more vicious competitors, he put Aiden in charge to give his company new life. Then it was was goodbye KinsleyCorp and hello to Kintech, a leader in the Silicon Valley region of central California. Aiden molded the new business to his liking, choosing his own management team from friends he knew he could rely on while ensconcing himself as CEO of the lucrative tech business. There was Harrison Charles, an Englishman of 45 who had been a hiree that was grandfathered into Kintech. Aiden was friends with the older gentleman through his father. He trusted him more than most anyone and had granted him the title of CFO. The man was worth his weight in gold and had ridden with KinsleyCorp through it's most rough patches as well as gliding through good times. He was irreplaceable. Carlton Smith was another friend of Aiden's who he had met on a business trip to New York. Having been fed up with the faster city life that was downtown Manhattan, Smith had befriended Kinskley at a convention being held at Salesforce Tower in the financial district of San Francisco. They had immediately hit it off, keeping in touch via email and phone over a number of years They had immediately hit it off, keeping in touch via email and phone over a number of years. When Carlton had bitched one too many times about his thankless job in the Big Apple, it had taken little convincing from Aiden to drop his life on the east coast and set up shop as COO of Kintech. Ramon Gutierrex rounded out the quartet and was the glue that held their interesting coupling together. He was mild mannered and crude and his job as Chief of Security for Kintech was offered to him after his jobs as a San Jose policeman and then private investigator for the Bay Area had become more of a hassle and less of a moneymaker for his growing family. He was a whizz at computers as well and in the security business nowadays, it was a crucial skill to add to your portfolio. The four men sat in Aiden's office that Friday night at the beginning of what most places would call Indian Summer. Living in the Bay Area was always a life of never truly knowing what the future weather would bring. With microclimates being what they were in the area, you could have one day that was 110 in the shade and the next day would bring a high of 85. It was maddening for those who liked to plan their next day's outfits. Layers proved to be a lifesaver for those that let their outfits do their talking for them. It was 4:30 PM on that Friday and most of the office had already left to start the weekend early. The four men sat in Aiden's office sipping Scotch and companionably joking as was their custom at the end of a grueling work week. A few secretaries and personal assistants still sat at their work stations going over next week's schedules or tying up some last minute business for the current week, but most had already scuttled off to whatever weekend dalliances they had been looking forward to since Monday. Carlton looked over towards the clear glass windows that housed Aiden's office and out through the open blinds that were there. "Now that right there, I wouldn't mind pouncing on for a night or three." Carlton said for probably the 800th in the past several months. "There is something so sexy about a woman that looks that virginal and straight-laced as your little secretary, Aiden." Aiden rolled his eyes and looked over at his secretary of four months. He had gotten her from a temp agency that he used. His old secretary had moved to Thailand or some other beastly 3rd world country when she met a man online. Janine had given him a weeks notice and hightailed it over the Pacific to marry some creep who claimed he was heir to some family fortune. It wouldn't surprise Aiden if the man was a rice picker or one of those odd taxi services that consisted of a little rickshaw and a shoeless man wearing a bamboo hat. "Stop eyefucking my secretary, Carl." Aiden said. He had a bit of a soft spot for his little secretary. She was meek and reminded him of a librarian a bit. Albeit a very sexy librarian. "Well, you certainly aren't planning on plowing her, so why can't I have a little taste?" Carl replied. The man became more and more crass in direct proportion as to how much he drank. He had had a few tumblerfuls of the Scotch already and had loosened his tie both literally and figuratively. "Leave her alone. I don't approve of you dipping your pen in the company ink." Aiden replied desperate for a change of subject. "Don't tell me never dreamed of bending her over your desk, hiking up her skirt and pummeling her sweet p***y a time or two." Carl said with a lascivious grin. "I bet under that prim exterior, she's a tiger in the sack." Aiden ran a hand through his hair, irritated at his friend. He was always thinking with his d**k and the growing list of his conquests-both past and present-grew daily. Harrison chuckled at the easy rapport between the two friends. "Have some propriety, old man." Harry said. His heavy London accent hadn't faded in the 20 odd years he had lived in the states. Sometimes Harrison thought his friends only kept him around so that they sounded more sophisticated. It didn't bother him if they did. Lord knows these men needed someone in their group dynamic that made them look less like a bunch of aging frat brothers. "Leave the poor girl alone. She looks like she'd split in two if you tried to have a go at her." Harrison added. "She's a woman, not a play toy." Ramon added. Out of all the men, he was probably the most respectful of women. He had a wife and 3 children, whom he adored. Although Harry also had a family, his marriage to Mathilde, his wife had been more along of a business transaction. Their relationship had grown from a tolerable joining to respectful alliance between the two families of in-laws. "Aiden, when is the last time you were with a woman? A couple of months ago? You keep holding off, you may as well just cut your d**k off and call it a day. If you don't use it, you'll lose it." Carlton poured himself a 4th scotch and Aiden quickly snatched the bottle from him so he couldn't help himself to another. Aiden walked over to the window that looked at upon the parking lot below. He could practically see the pavement shimmer with heat. He thought about Carlton's words. It had been quite some time since he had been with a woman and his secretary was a sweet little thing. She would probably faint if he ever tried to make a pass-not that he ever would. Aiden knew he was a good looking man and the telephone numbers in his little black book proved it. He was six foot two with blonde hair and blue eyes that snapped and sparkled and he was in the prime of his life at age 30. All he would have to do to fill his bed was to tip a wink or smile and the ladies would fall in line. Most of the secretaries on his payroll at one point or another had tried to make a pass or wear suggestive clothing to tempt him. He had turned them all down flat. He didn't want to look to his employees for a quick f**k. Because that's all it would ever be. A quick f**k or two and then onto the next. They had all offered him s*x with their eyes or their clothing. All except one. Constance. His own secretary. She did all his scheduling and filing and a number of other duties and she did it all with a quick and easy grace, always calling him Mr. Kinsley. She was proper to a fault with him as she was with all the other men in the office, regardless of age or rank. "So what do you say, Aiden? Care to place a wager on it?" Aiden had zoned out on his friend and when Carlton called him back from his ruminations with that question, he snapped his head back towards his three friends. Carlton was constantly finding new ways to make his life difficult. Most recently he had taken to wagering bets with Aiden. "What wager?" he asked. He looked at the gazes Harry and Ramon were giving him and they looked disturbed yet resigned. Carl had a smirk plastered on his face. Sometimes Aiden wished to smack it right off him. This was one of those times. "I'll bet that you can't get that luscious little secretary of yours into bed within-well, say by the end of the year." Carl was grinning and Aiden frowned at him. "No, you fool. I will not wager on something like that." Aiden said, scoffing his disgust. "Why not? She's only a temp. It's not like she is really an employee. Her checks get cut from the temp agency, not you." Carl said. This was true. Granted, Aiden paid the agency handsomely for their services, but she was getting paid via a third party. "Still, no." Aiden said, but felt his resolve starting to wane. Sometimes he hated his friend's reasoning. Carl, out of all his friends, had the sole abilty of getting him to see things fom a different perspective. It was maddening when he reasoned with him and Aiden felt his resolved crumble slowly. "Don't think you can hack it? Think she's too virginal for a man such as yourself?" needled Carl. "I could get her to f**k me within a week if I wanted to," growled out Aiden and he watched as Harry and Ramon exchanged a knowing look. "Then prove it. Prove it to me that your little secretary out there can be seduced into your bed." Carl said. "If you lose, I get to bed her." "And if I win?" asked Aiden, cursing his friend mentally. "Name your price. You don't have to tell me today, but think it over about what you want." Carl told him. He knew he had AIden by the balls. "Fine." Aiden said. "I will f**k her by the year's end or you get to have a go." He put the booze away. The bet had sobered him up. The look on Harry's face was disapproving but Ramon being the security chief gave nothing away. If anything, Aiden could read a slight disappointment in his eyes, but that was only because he had known him so well for so long. "Now get the f**k out of my sight Carl, before I hack off your balls and make this bet unnecessary." Aiden told his friend. With that, Carl left the office with a smirk. He had won his friend to his side of thinking and although it had irked Aiden no doubt, he felt that the excitement of the bet was enough to get him through the next few months. He loved to watch the game, particularly when he could be waiting in the wings to reap the benefits.
