Chapter 13

1084 Words
Tears streamed down my face, the despair my parents showed as they died was imprinted in my head. I didn’t want to see anymore, didn’t want to know anymore. I just want to go back and enjoy my days with Skylar by my side. Maybe I could try and see if he feels what I do when I’m with him. The last door opened, revealing the shadow figure standing just beyond it. ‘Let me go home,’ I cried. ‘No. You’re almost there.’ Something grabbed hold of my legs and pulled me towards the door. I kicked and screamed but nothing worried, I was thrown through the doorway. With this door I didn’t fail but floated upright, the shadow hovering right beside me. ‘You have seen the past and now you will see the future.’ ‘Please. I don’t want to see anymore.’ ‘You must.’ The scene around us cleared and we were on the same hill near the home I shared with my parents. Except this time there was a man standing under the tree with four girls kneeling in front of him. I recognised one of them, it was me, but she looked a little older. ‘What is this?’ I asked. The man standing in front was wearing a black suit with a white shirt underneath. He had brown hair that was slicked back. His glasses were rimmed with a black frame. ‘That man is me, your creator.’ ‘Np, I had parents.’ ‘Yes, but I am the one that bestowed you with your abilities.’ ‘Why?’ ‘Every time a gifted gift dies, I gift another. This happens until the time comes that you are all needed.’ ‘Needed for what?’ ‘I can’t tell you till the time is right.’ ‘Time is right?’ ‘Yes. Then you will alight the night sky!’ the shadow yelled. A wave of fire overcame the landscape, leaving nothing but ash in it’s wake. The four girls stood together unharmed by the fire. I ran up to my future self about to try to talk to her when I saw her eyes. They were blank like she didn’t see anything or hear anything. Completely unaware of what was going on around her. ‘Cordelia, do it,’ the man said. My future self-started moving exactly like a puppet under control by the master. This guy was pulling strings, but how? ‘You can’s stop the future,’ his voice echoed as he disappeared. Turning around, I walked towards the other side of the hill. Below, the river was gone and there were piles of bodies everywhere. It looked like a warzone and the other side lost. The sky went red, and rain started falling softly. This was a nightmare, this couldn’t be my future. How could I ever have a hand in doing this? Those eyes were blank, we didn’t have a choice. We were being controlled. I was pulled upwards and out of the doorway. The area outside the door no longer contained shallow water but a complete ocean instead. My body sank deep into the water. I couldn’t move, couldn’t swim, couldn’t float. Then I heard a voice. It was quiet at first but started to get louder. A light appeared in the depths, the size of a flashlight at first. The light got bigger as the voice got louder. ‘Please. Please come back to me.’ It was Skylar. Turning my body in the direction of the light, I began swimming towards it. All at once the light surrounded me and I was no longer in water. Blinking to focus on my surroundings, I started to recognise the room I was in, it was in the medical wing. Then I could feel my body lying on a bed, a blanket covered my body. Glancing to my right I saw Skylar, his head bent over my hand as he muttered something. ‘Hey,’ I mumbled, my mouth dry. Skylar’s head popped up immediately, a smile spreading across his face. ‘You’re okay,’ he said. ‘Why wouldn’t I be?’ ‘I thought I killed you.’ ‘Not a chance.’ He touched the side of my face gently. The same warmth spread throughout me, but it felt different somehow, it felt stronger. ‘What happened?’ I asked, trying to sit up. ‘Don’t move yet. You’re not ready.’ I frowned. ‘What happened?’ ‘We got you through the transition.’ ‘I feel like my body went through a washing machine.’ ‘Close. Your body adjusts when it takes in the vampire blood.’ ‘Who’s blood did I..’ I trailed off not sure if I wanted to know the answer. ‘Mine.’ ‘Really?’ ‘Doctor Reiki found that your parents were descendants of pure-blooded royals.’ ‘Does that mean we’re related?’ ‘No. We just share similar blood lines.’ ‘Okay, I was worried.’ ‘Why?’ I looked him straight in the eyes. It was no or never. ‘Because ..’ Before I got the chance to say anything, his mouth was on mine as he kissed me. Sparks flared up from the connection my body responding to his. He pulled away but stayed close, resting his forehead on mine. ‘I could feel our connection from the moment I met you.’ My stomach felt like it had butterflies going crazy inside. Thinking back, I never would have guessed he was feeling the same way. Then memories of what happened while I was unconscious surfaced. Tears flowed down my cheeks, remembering my parents and how they suffered. ‘What’s wrong? Did I do something?’ he asked, pulling away. ‘I have something to tell you.’ ‘Is it important? You should be resting. Your body went through a lot,’ he said, getting to his feet. ‘We can talk about it when you wake up next,’ he added, giving my hand a squeeze. ‘No, I need to tell you this now.’ My entire body ached as I sat forward taking hold of his hand. I could feel every muscle pulling and working together to move my body, but they were sore. I winced as I pushed my body a bit too far forward and a sharp pain shot throughout my body. ‘Careful. Here lean back,’ Skylar rushed forward. ‘Please.’ ‘Okay.’ ‘You might need to sit down for this.’ As Skylar sat down next to my bed, I started the story from the beginning.
