Chapter 14

1058 Words
As I finished talking, explaining everything that happened to me while I was sleeping, I waited for Skylar to say something. ‘Are you sure what you saw was real?’ he asked carefully. ‘Yes I didn’t think so at first, but so many things add up.’ ‘What did you say your parents' names were?’ ‘My mother’s name was Oksana.’ ‘We know your family line thanks to the blood test, but we’ll have to research everything else.’ ‘What about Mr Akuma?’ ‘He’s scheduled to come here tomorrow for a follow-up?’ ‘I thought that wasn’t for a week?’ ‘You were out for a whole week.’ I went quiet, my mouth wide open in surprise. Was I really out of it for that long? ‘Ah, she’s awake,’ Doctor Reiki walked into the room. ‘Hello,’ I greeted. ‘How long till she can get out of here?’ asked Skylar. ‘We’ll keep monitoring her for the next few hours but I’m optimistic she can be released this afternoon.’ ‘Awesome. I’ll be back later.’ ‘You’re going already?’ ‘I have a few things to take care of before my meeting with Mr Akuma.’ Skylar gave me a quick kiss before departing, giving me butterflies. As he left the room, a nurse walked in. ‘Kim, do you mind doing a follow-up?’ ‘Yes, Doctor.’ Kim had short black hair, half of her head was shaved. She was short in height and very thin. Tattoos covered her arms from wrist up to her elbow. She started with taking my blood pressure. She acted slightly off. I could tell something was wrong when her hands didn’t come into contact with mine. She went out of her way to avoid it. ‘What’s wrong?’ I asked, staring at her. ‘Nothing, Miss.’ Kim bowed her head before leaving the room. Miss? Did she just call me Miss? ‘Doctor. What is going on?’ ‘Didn’t the king tell you?’ ‘Tell me what?’ ‘It is not my place to say, Miss. I’m sorry.’ Again with the Miss? The Doctor left the room and it was silent aside from the beeps from the machinery. A knock sounded on the door. ‘Come in,’ I called. ‘I knew you’d be fine,’ smiled Erik, walking through the door. I smiled back at him in greeting. ‘How are you feeling?’ ‘Like I’ve been beaten, but my body is already starting to feel better.’ ‘You were out for a while, had my boy Sky pacing back and forth worrying,’ he laughed. ‘Really?’ ‘Yeah, he barely slept/ He’s got it bad for you. Oh! That reminds me, here you go.’ Erik handed over the phone that Skylar gave me on the night the shadow figure attacked me. ‘Thanks!’ ‘I set it up for you, so it’s all good to go. Of course, I put my contact number in there first.’ Erik spent the next hour showing me how to use it. The main thing I wanted to know was how to message others. ‘There you have it. If you have any questions, let me know.’ ‘Thank you so much.’ ‘No problem and I went to the trouble to add your friends number to.’ ‘Aura?’ ‘Yeah.’ ‘You’ve done so much for me. Why?’ ‘You’re like a sister to me. Plus, Sky has chosen you. Don’t worry if people act strangely around you.’ ‘Why would they?’ ‘Sky will explain it all to you.’ ‘Okay.’ ‘Now get some rest.’ After Erik left, I unlocked the phone and sent a quick hello message to Aura, hoping she hadn’t forgotten who I was. Then I got comfy and drifted off to sleep. A voice swirled in my mind. ‘Everything is going according to plan.’ It was a male voice speaking. I know I have heard it before. ‘What about the boy?’ That voice was female, sounding young, maybe around my age? ‘We have no need to worry ourselves about him. When the time comes, she will make the right decision and if not, we will make her see the correct path.’ ‘Yes, sire.’ The voice faded and I opened my eyes to see Sam staring at me with rage all over her face. ‘What the hell did you do?!’ she roared, keeping her voice low so she didn’t let anyone know she was in here. ‘I don’t know what you mean.’ She grabbed hold of my neck tightly, cutting off almost all of my air supply. ‘You listen to me. This is your last warning. Stay away from Skylar.’ Same let go of my neck and stalked out of the room. I really didn’t understand what she was going on about. Did he tell her we kissed or something? Skylar walked into the room a few minutes later, worry on his face. Glancing over at the clock, I realised I had been asleep for a good four hours. Frowning, I remembered where the voice came from. It was the shadow figure's voice. I knew I recognised it but who was the girl? Was she one of the four that stood in front of him? ‘Are you alright?’ Sky asked. ‘Yeah, just lost in my thoughts.’ ‘Listen, we need to talk.’ Those few words made my stomach land in my throat. This can’t be a good thing. ‘Yeah?’ I asked hesitantly. ‘Erik mentioned that you were not aware of what happened.’ ‘Happened with what?’ ‘When I helped turn you I discovered something important. Let me start at the beginning. When I met you, I had this feeling you were meant to be more to me, like we were meant to be together.’ ‘Like a soulmate connection?’ ‘Exactly, then I bit you and tasted your blood and that connection grew and then I realised we are soulmates. So, I marked you.’ ‘Marked me?’ ‘Yeah. So all other vampires will be able to sense my authority. That you have a mate.’ I sat quietly. That makes so much more sense to me now. Why Sam threatened me, why that girl called me Miss. I was mated to the vampire king.
