Chapter 15

‘Say something, please,’ whispered Sky. ‘What does this mean for me?’ I asked, trying to wrap my head around it. ‘It means that everyone is going to smell you and know that you have been chosen by me.’ I sat in silence. He marked me. He really marked me. Someone chose me not just to be used but because they wanted me. Looking back in his direction, I launched forward and enveloped him in a big hug. The warmth spread throughout me, going everywhere throughout my body. It made me feel like I was full of electricity. ‘What was that for?’ he chuckled. ‘I’m just happy. You found me and rescued me. Now this. Now, you’ve marked me. You’ve chosen me.’ ‘As soon as I met you, I knew that there could be no others.’ He tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, and we sat in silence for a few minutes just staring into each other’s eyes. I don’t think I could ever get sick and tired of those ocean blue eyes. ‘I felt the exact same way when I met you, I just didn’t know what it was until you got me away from that place.’ ‘Are you sure though?’ I asked. ‘Damn right, I’m sure.’ ‘I used to be a blood slave though.’ ‘That doesn’t matter. You are of royal descent and even if you weren’t, I would have chosen you anyway.’ He kissed me deeply after he finished talking and rested his forehead against mine. This was the first time in a long time that I felt like I could open up and really be who I am. ‘I had another vision,’ I said. ‘About the Shadow Guy?’ ‘I didn’t see him, but I heard him talking. He was talking to a girl. I think he already has one of the four.’ ‘What makes you say that?’ ‘Just a hunch.’ Skylar went quiet as he processed the new information that I told him. I wondered if he really believed me or not. Doctor Reiki walked into the room just then. ‘Good afternoon, sire. We are very pleased with how she has progressed with her healing. So, we are releasing you now. Only if someone will be keeping an eye on you.’ ‘So, I need a babysitter?’ ‘Sure do and that job goes to me,’ laughed Sky. It was hard to walk as my body was still adjusting to its new and improved self. The faster my body healed, the more I started to notice that my eyesight was sharper than before, my hearing was now crystal clear, and I could smell everything from the medical equipment to the food that was being prepared in the kitchen. ‘Where are we going?’ I asked. ‘To my room, you still need lots of rest. Doctor’s orders.’ ‘No. Take me to the library.’ ‘You need rest,’ Skylar protested. ‘I’ll rest while reading.’ ‘Fine, but I’m coming too.’ Skylar helped me to the top floor and sat me down on a window seat inside the library. The maze stretched to this side of the house, revealing a tropical garden below. That maze was really amazing. ‘What did you want to start with?’ he asked. ‘My family history.’ ‘Alright.’ He walked off to a section that held golden bound books and pulled out a small one. ‘Here. This one covers all royal and pureblood families.’ ‘It’s so small.’ ‘Yeah. There really aren’t many of us.’ I thanked him as he walked towards his desk. He must be tired, the dark circles under his eyes were obvious to me now. Erik did say that he didn’t get much sleep when I was unconscious. Running my hands over the cover of the book, I took a deep breath and opened the cover. My family line went all the way back to when the first vampires were created. I could see Skylar’s line running alongside my own. It was interesting to see how far the line really went back. Apparently, there were originally four pure-blooded vampires that started the entire line. Two out of the four were killed. The cause is unknown. Looking further into the book, I saw that we were descended from demons. Demons created the vampire lines, that’s why some were stronger than others. It depended how high on the chain the demon was that started it all. The two purebloods that were killed was done by demons. As I made my way through the family tree I found my mother’s name: Oksana. Beside her was a man called Vladmir, my father. I touched their photos wishing I had known them better. Below them was me, but I have no photo yet. I closed the book, not finding what I was looking for. It covered the family trees well enough but nothing to do with the elements. Getting slowly to my feet, I started roaming through the library until I came across a book that stood out to me. It had four circles all coloured differently. The colours were blue, green, red and white. Opening the book, I started to read about these four people, each from different backgrounds that could all wield different elements. These people were a vampire, a werewolf, a human and a fairy. As I continued reading the book, it turned out they were brought together to save their kingdom. ‘Did you find something?’ Skylar asked, walking towards me. ‘This is almost exactly what I keep seeing.’ ‘That is a fiction book.’ ‘What happens if it's not? Well, are parts of it real?’ ‘You think it’s based on facts?’ ‘Yes. In the story they save their kingdom, but I keep seeing destruction.’ I handed the book over to Skylar to have a look through. ‘I’ve never seen this book before. I’ll see if the author wrote anything else.’ He walked off back towards his desk. A voice whispered something to me nearby, but it was too far away for me to understand what it was saying. Turning around, I started to follow the direction of the voice. As I looked down each aisle, I came across a book that was half off of the shelf. Standing out from the rest of the books that surrounded it. I reached out my hand and grabbed hold of it. As soon as my fingers came into contact with the book, my vision went dark and my head exploded in pain. ‘Sire, I’ve got news.,’ it was the female voice again. ‘What is it, Lia?’ I recognised that voice straight away, it was the shadow figure again. ‘I received word that they turned her.’ ‘She’s a vampire now?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Perfect, the next phase of our plan will be set into motion soon.’ ‘Should I prepare?’ ‘Yes.’ The voices faded away, letting my sight come back to me. I was lying on the floor, Skylar was picking me up, concern on his face. ‘It’s alright, I’m alright,’ I said, trying to reassure him. ‘No, you’re going to go get some rest now.’ I started to feel tired all of a sudden, my circles beneath my eyes were probably just as bad as his. ‘Only if you’re resting too. You look more tired then I do.’ ‘I’ve almost finished at my desk, then I will join you. I promise.’ I nodded in agreement. He was the king so he had a lot of duties to attend to. I guess he would be a little behind if he spent an entire week just worrying about me. After Skylar got me comfortable in his bed, he walked out of the room to complete the rest of his obligations. Closing my eyes, I surrounded to exhaustion and drifted off to sleep.
