Chapter 5

We spent the next hour talking about what he likes to do, how he is looking forward to meeting his mate and feeling that connection. Which made me wonder if vampires had the same thing. ‘Do vampires have a mate?’ I asked, words coming out in a rush. ‘Don’t you know being a pre-trans vampire after all.’ ‘Not really. I was kept in the dark about a lot of things.’ I said looking at my hands. ‘I think they do. I’m not completely sure though. That’s something you might have to ask Sky about.’ ‘Right.’ ‘Well, it’s almost midday, what did you want to do?’ ‘What do you mean? Don’t you want to sleep?’ ‘Probably not, I don’t get much sleep these days.’ ‘How come?’ ‘Story for another time.’ After he said that Sky walked through the kitchen doors with a tall blonde in tow. It was the same girl as before, the one that told me to stay away from Skylar. ‘Hey Sky,’ greeted Erik. ‘Hey. What are you doing up so late?’ ‘Love me a midday snack.’ ‘You always did,’ the blonde chimed in. ‘Sam.’ Erik said deadpan. Whoever this girl was I could tell Erik didn’t like her much at all. ‘Oh come on. When are you going to get over what happened?’ she whined trying to give the puppy dog eyes. ‘For one, the past was a few days ago and two. How about never?’ ‘Meanie,’ she pouted then glanced at me. ‘You must be the girl Sky helped.’ I gave her a small smile with a mhm. ‘Isn’t he so thoughtful?’ she draped her arms over him. ‘Get off me Sam.’ Sky pushed her off. ‘Why are you being so distant Sky? I went to your room to apologise, and you wouldn’t even hear me out.’ ‘I don’t care for your apology Sam.’ ‘What’s changed?’ ‘Nothing.’ Sam looked at me her eyes sweeping over me from top to bottom before looking back at Sky who was sitting on the other side of Erik. She glared at me and I could feel the threat she made on the stairs already forming into a plan in her mind. ‘Fine.’ She turned sharply on her heel and stalked out of the room. ‘Man I told you not to bother with her anymore,’ Erik muttered. ‘I’m trying to, but she doesn’t give up.’ ‘What’s your opinion of her Lia?’ ‘Lia?’ ‘Yeah, me and Lia and now BFFs. Didn’t you know that?’ Sky raised his eyebrows looking at me. I shrugged slightly, ‘He wouldn’t take no for an answer.’ Erik laughed hard which made Sky smile. ‘You found a good one here Sky.’ I blushed. ‘Come on, we need to get our sleep,’ Sky said getting to his feet. ‘I’d rather just stay here,’ I said. ‘You need sleep, it’s been a long day.’ I gave up and followed next to Sky as we left Erik in the kitchen to finish off his snack. As we walked up the stairs our arms kept brushing against each other giving me that same warm connection pulsing throughout my body. It made me feel relaxed like everything was how it was meant to be. ‘Why can’t you sleep? Is there something wrong with your room?’ Sky asked breaking the silence. ‘Yes and no.’ ‘We can get you a different room.’ ‘It’s not that. The room is beautiful I just don’t like how empty it feels.’ ‘Empty hey.’ ‘Yeah just too quiet.’ ‘Okay well if you are having trouble sleeping how about we watch a movie in my room?’ I looked at him out of the corner of my eye. ‘No funny business I promise.’ I had to admit I had always wanted to watch a movie. I’d seen scenes from previous ones only briefly because I was never allowed to watch any. Mr Akuma also kept me very busy during the nights. The memory made me shudder just going back through the moments where I had seen the movie playing on the TV. ‘We don’t have to.’ ‘No, it sounds nice,’ I said, shaking myself out of that nightmare. As we walked into his room I could see how big it really was. It had a little sitting area surrounding a fireplace as you walked in. In further off to the left was the bed, it looked like a King size definitely bigger than the one I had in the guest room. Beyond the bed was a wall with two doors, one had to be the closet and the other was the bathroom. The walls in his room were coloured a light grey while the floors were a dark blue. ‘Where’s the TV?’ I asked not seeing one. ‘It’s just in the wall.’ ‘What?’ I walked further into his room and realised there was a cut out in the wall for the TV. It sat right across from the bottom of the bed. ‘How come it’s there and not closer to the couches?’ ‘I do most of my Tv watching in bed. Much comfier that way,’ He shrugged sitting on his bed. Nerves started to set in, but he did promise that he wouldn’t try anything. ‘That’s fair.’ I moved towards the other side of the bed making sure we weren’t sitting too close to each other. My heart was racing as the Tv screen came to life. ‘What would you like to watch?’ he asked as he flicked through various pictures all with different titles. ‘I’m not sure.’ ‘Don’t know what to watch?’ ‘More like I’ve never really seen any to know what I like.’ He just stared at me, disbelief across his features. ‘It’s not like Mr Akuma would let me do that anyway.’ That same small growl came from him again at the mention of Mr Akuma. ‘Don’t mention that man again.’ ‘Okay. Well since I’m not sure what’s good or not how about we watch something you like to watch?’ I suggested. Skylar paused obviously thinking about various movies he had seen probably trying to figure out something he thinks I would like. ‘How about this movie?’ The movie he landed on was called Central Intelligence. Something about a CIA agent working with an old school friend to solve a plot against America. ‘What about that one?’ I asked pointing to the one that was next. ‘That is Too Fast too furious. It’s a part of a series about family and racing cars basically.’ ‘Let’s give it a go, it sounds cool.’ ‘Sure, but I’ll put the first one on for you instead.’ He searched up Fast and Furious and pressed play, the various scenes of the movie began to play as I got comfy on his bed.
