I stood chained to the bedframe just waiting for him to come back. My eyes searched the room for something I could use to get the handcuffs off. There was nothing nearby that I could get a hold of. Footsteps sounded outside the door, making my heart race increase.
I started tugging on the handcuffs hoping I could slip my wrist free and get away before he came back. The door burst open making me completely freeze. It wasn’t Mr Akuma who walked in the door but three men that I had never seen before. They were all built like soldiers, except the clothes were just jeans and shirts. The man in the middle had short chestnut brown hair that had a slight curl to it. He seemed to be in charge just by the way he walked and the aura he was giving off. The one of the left was blonde with tanned skin and the one of the right had a buzzcut and a scar that spread from his cheek to his ear.
The man in the middle looked directly at me, his eyes roaming around my entire body. What were they doing here? Was this something Mr Akuma had organised? Although I don’t think this was planned, Mr Akuma would have been annoyed when he was interrupted a few minutes ago.
‘Who are you?’ the man in the middle asked, his voice deep with a slight accent that I couldn’t place.
‘She’s no one, just a maid I hired,’ Mr Akuma came around the corner.
I froze when I saw his face, his stone-cold eyes telling me to be quiet.
‘Is it normal practice for you to chain your maids to the bed like that?’ the blonde spoke up, pointing to the handcuffs.
‘She broke a few plates; I was just teaching her a lesson.’
The man in the middle started to walk towards me and the closer he got the more I realised his eyes were as blue as the ocean. My body started to tremble the closer he got, the more I saw the realisation dawning behind his eyes.
‘Tell me, what is your name?’
‘Her name is not important,’ Mr Akuma interrupted.
‘I believe I am talking to the girl. Miss?’
‘Cordelia.’
‘Tell me, Cordelia, is what he saying the truth?’
I looked over at Mr Akuma and could see the malicious intent in his eyes. If I told them the truth I would be dead when they leave. If I told them a lie, then I wouldn’t just be a blood slave anymore and I would wish for death.
Looking back at ocean eyes I couldn’t hide the fear shaking inside me from the thought of either of those scenarios happening. He frowned and then more realisation spread across his face as his eyes landed on the most recent feed mark Mr Akuma left behind and I swear I heard him growl softly.
‘Sky?’ The blonde man asked, stepping towards us.
‘Can you give us a minute?’
‘Sure.’
‘Sire, I don’t think that is wise.’
‘Leave.’ The word was final, like a foot being put down and they all left the room.
Why did Mr Akuma call him sire? That was a very strange thing to do for someone who didn’t take orders from anyone.
‘I’m going to break the handcuffs now, but to do that it requires me to touch you. Is that alright?’ his voice was so gentle now as he spoke to me.
I nodded slowly.
He got closer and I could smell fresh rain and something salty. I wanted to lean in closer to get a better smell because it was nice and refreshing, but I didn't dare.
I closed my eyes as he leaned into me and his hand connected with mine, brushing my skin lightly as he worked on the handcuffs. A warm current spread from where he touched all the way throughout my body. This feeling was different. Anytime Mr AKuma touched me, it felt like ice on my skin.
‘There.’
As the handcuff came off I rubbed my wrist gently with my other hand.
‘Now that we are alone, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Skylar. Tell me. Is this by choice?’
‘No,’ I whispered, my gaze falling to the floor.
‘Didn’t think so. I can help you but you need to tell me if he uses you for blood.’
‘I –.’ My voice failed me.
‘You’re not just a maid are you?’
Shaking my head side to side, I wanted to sit down. I was embarrassed by what he made me do for years. Letting him drink from me made me one of the lowest people in this place.
‘That’s what I thought.’
I pleaded to someone to help me get out of here and maybe this was my answer. This was my chance to get away from this life and have some freedom.
Tears pooled in my eyes as I stared at the ground.
‘I am a blood slave.’
The temperature in the room turned from warm to icy cold in an instant. That same growl I heard before became louder and I noticed it was coming from Sky, the man standing in front of me.
‘Is everything okay?’ I asked taking a step back from him.
‘Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. Come with me.’
‘Where to?’
‘I’m getting you out of here.’
I nodded without hesitation. He scared me when he growled like that, but I don’t think it was directed at me. Even though it was a loud growl it made me feel safe, like he would protect me with everything he had.
Sky turned on his heel and started walking towards the door. He paused and glanced over his shoulder.
‘Is there anything you want from your room?’
‘One thing.’
‘Okay, we’ll take you to get it and then we’ll be leaving.’
He swung the door open and we were greeted by Mr Akuma and the two other men that arrived with Skylar. They were all just standing outside the door waiting for Sky to come out.
‘Mr Akuma, I would like to have a meeting in your office briefly before we depart today.’
I hid behind Skylar hoping that Mr Akuma wouldn’t notice me there.
‘Certainly. Right this way.’
‘Axel, Benny. Take Cordelia to her room to gather a few things. I will meet you at the car.’
‘Sure.’ They chorused together.
Avoiding the gaze of Mr Akuma as I turned in the direction of my room. I could feel his eyes burning into the back of my head as I walked away from him.
Descending the stairs I walked through the maids quarters before reaching the end where the maintenance equipment was kept. Opening the door I walked into the closet. Towards the back of the closet was the window I often spent my time staring through. Out of the corner of my eye I could see both of them looking around the small space I called a room. No emotions on their face gave away what they were thinking. I looked through my blankets and found the small box I hid underneath a loose floorboard. This box was the only thing I had left of my parents, I didn’t know what was inside as it would remain locked until I turned 21 which was only in a few days.
‘Is that everything?’ the blonde man asked.
I nodded my reply and followed them back the way we came. Instead of heading straight I made a left turn towards the front entrance of the house.
A loud commotion could be heard coming from one of the rooms off to the right of the entrance which I knew to be Mr Akuma’s office. The amount of times I had gone in there to feed him made me shudder.
The door burst open and Skylar walked out blood covering his shirt. Behind him was Mr Akuma beaten badly and breathing heavily. There was blood all over his face, he was almost unrecognisable.
‘Let that be a lesson to you. If I see or hear that you have been doing anything like that again I will have your head.’
‘Yes Sire,’ Mr Akuma bowed his head.
Skylar turned back to me and looked at what I held in my hands.
‘Is that it?’
I nodded ‘I have nothing else here that I value enough to bring with me.’
‘Okay. Benny, Axel, let’s head back now.’
‘Yes,’ replied the man with the buzzcut.
‘Good, I don’t think I can take looking at this place anymore,’ said the one with blonde hair.
Axel and Benny turned around and headed out of the front door. I looked down at Mr Akuma who was smiling even though he had been beaten badly. There was something about that smile that gave me chills.
Skylar grabbed my arm gently and turned me away from Mr Akuma. The same warmth spread throughout my body that did just moments before. I really enjoyed that feeling.
‘Come on, let’s go.’
