Mandy’s Pov
My shift is finally over, and my feet are dragging now.
I spotted Mike, and before I could escape him, he called me.
“What’s going on? You’ve been avoiding me the entire day. Did I do something wrong?” he asked, concerned.
“No, no, you didn’t. I’m just overworked, and with my studies and everything, I just can’t seem to find time for a date right now. I haven’t slept and just need a quiet night.”
“Okay, let me at least make you some dinner at your place. You can put your feet on the couch and have some wine”. That sounds very nice, even though I still have this weird feeling stirring inside my stomach. I need to let it be, and move on. If Dylan was actually real, I wouldn’t see him again.
“Okay.” Mike smiled when I accepted his proposal and we walked together to his car.
The drive to my apartment is quiet with only soft music playing in the background. For a second, I stared out the window. I thought I saw Dylan’s face. I looked back while the car was driving, but the image disappeared.
“What’s wrong?” Mike asked, his eyes focused on the road.
“Nothing. I thought I saw someone I know.”
“Mmmm,” Mike replied with a frown.
“Are you sure you're okay?” he asked again. I don’t feel like going into this. I can’t tell him I’m daydreaming about a man that might not even exist, and if he did, how do I explain what I saw? And not to even talk about the feeling I had when he touched me.
“Yeah, I told you, I’m just tired.” Mike looked over at me and my eyes caught a few men standing in the road.
“Mike!” I yelled, and he stopped the car just in time before he drove over them.
“Are you guys crazy?” Mike asked, opening his door. I had a weird feeling, the same feeling I had the night when Dylan was attacked.
“Mike, get back in the car!” I yelled, but the men walked towards my window. My heart pumped faster and I couldn’t breathe.
“Where is Dylan?” a tall guy with black hair and brown eyes asked me. His body was slim and he dressed in a black hoody and grey pants. My entire body shivered when he opened my door.
“I don’t know where he is.” My voice trembles as I speak.
“Don’t lie to me, human, I know you know where he is.” His eyes glowed like he was compelling me to tell the truth.
“I don’t know where he is,” I said in a slow and steady voice.
“Let’s go.” the man called the other ones off, and suddenly I could breathe again. Mike was standing in shock, not knowing what had happened. I don’t even know what just happened?
“What was that about?” Mike finally asked when he got back into the car.
“It was a patient of mine. I guess he was in some trouble.” I lied.
Now I know I wasn’t delusional, and that Dylan actually exists.
“Mike, I think we need to skip the dinner. I really just want to get into a shower and sleep. We can have dinner tomorrow, I promise.” I can see he’s worried, but I can’t have all these feelings shivering inside me without answers.
“Sorry,” I mumbled when his face dropped to the ground.
“It’s okay, but you have to promise just to eat something?”
“I will, I promise.” He squeezed my hand while I smiled, which made me feel uncomfortable.
I don’t know why. We’ve been together for years, and one touch from another man and my entire world is turned upside down.
“Thank you. I will see you tomorrow.” I politely said while sliding out of the car seat.
He gave me a worried smile.
“See you tomorrow.” I closed the door and quickly ran upstairs. I can’t handle lying to him and I can’t explain what I’m feeling.
I opened the door and before I could switch on the light, someone shoved me against the wall. The familiar feeling numbed my body and my entire body went into a trance like I had just used a drug and I couldn’t get rid of the feeling.
“Do you know who I am?” the thick voice asked. I could only nod without a sound coming out of my mouth.
He pressed his body against mine, and once again I felt compelled not to move.
“Don’t be scared Mandy, I’m not here to hurt you.” he switched the light on, still holding me against the wall.
“You’re so beautiful,” he said without blinking. His eyes were a yellow colour again. How the hell do I look beautiful to him? I haven’t slept in days and look like s**t.
“Your real?” I whispered when he brought his face closer to mine. I could feel my numbness turning into passion. Something I never felt before. I thought I felt it with Mike, but this is a different kind of passion. A drug that is addictive and I’ve dealt with addicts before.
“You need to be safe. You can’t let anyone know about me, not yet,” he whispered into my ear, leaving my entire body full of goosebumps.
“And to answer your question, yes, I’m real, and I will answer all your questions in time. For now, you need to forget we ever met.” he kissed me, a soft kiss on my lips and moaned my name. The same voice I kept hearing the entire day. Like he was warning me.
“I will see you soon.” and in a Blink, he disappeared, leaving me with so many questions that my mind is about to explode. The addiction I just felt is wearing off, and I need more of it.
He’s handsome, powerful hands holding me against the wall, keeping a neutral voice and, at the same time, he sounded so calm and sexy. His soft kiss made butterflies have a feast inside my stomach. How am I supposed to sleep if I’m in withdrawal from his presence?
