Birthday

Mandy’s Pov One week later. For the first night in an entire week, I actually slept through the night. I still daydream about Dylan, but he hasn’t show up again, and I could actually concentrate on Mike. It’s my birthday today, so the entire day shift is going clubbing tonight. I still can’t believe they actually talked me into going. I hate clubbing. I can’t even dance. I dressed in my nursing coat and for once I didn’t overslept. Maybe that would score me some brownies with the director. I rolled my eyes, looking in the mirror. I grabbed my bag and my coffee mug and made my way to the bus. The moment I stepped into the ER, everyone was clapping hands and singing happy birthday. My face was blushing even the patients were having a feast, making me feel uncomfortable. “Happy birthday, beautiful.” Mike approached me, giving me a kiss and a gift. “What’s this?” I asked, smiling at him. “Open it,” he demanded. “Oh wow, you didn’t have to.” It’s a silver bangle with my name engraved on it. “You deserve it. You are so special, and only special ladies deserve such special gifts.” He gave me another kiss on the cheek. “Okay, let’s get back to work. Patients are waiting.” Maggie clapped her hands for everyone to get back to work. I smiled at Mike. “I will see you tonight. Promise one dance at least?” Mike raised a brow. “One dance!” I lifted my finger and smiled. We checked on all the patients, and most of the patients today were a cakewalk. No emergencies, a few bruises, and a few that had the flu. The shift actually went by quickly. “Are you ready?” Maggie went into the doctor’s lounge with a bottle of champagne. “Oh no. I still have to get dressed and....” “And nothing. I already got you a nice black dress. So we’re changing here, and then we are drinking the night away. None of us is working tomorrow, for once.” she rolls her eyes as if we live here. We actually do. I can’t remember the last time we actually had a day off. Maggie pulled out the black dress, and it was screaming for attention. The material is a silky smooth material, and it’s literally only just above my knees. The heels are way too high, and way too elegant for me. “Maggie!” I sighed when I put on my heels and she pulled my hair to the side. “No Maggie. You look amazing, and when was the last time you actually dressed up?” I kept quiet. “Exactly, so get your tiny ass outside this ER, before the medical director calls us for a double shift.” we both laughed and run for the door. Mike and a few other medical students and doctors were waiting for us outside. Mike’s eyes were glancing right through me. “Wow,” he mumbles. I blushed and he kissed me on the cheek. “Mike, if you hadn't been dating Mandy for so long, I would’ve tried and steal her from you.” Shaun jokes when we entered the limo. “You know I had karate classes when I was younger. You can try.” they joke around. Maggie gave me a naughty look, making me look away before I burst out in laughter. “Okay, we’re here. Let’s fix your hair.” Maggie pulled my hair to the front again and put lipstick on my lips. “Maggie!” I growl. “Just go with it and stop moaning.” She scowls. I swear she acts like my mother sometimes. Thinking about my mother, I haven’t even got a message from her today. I removed my phone from my purse to just double-check, but nothing. I haven’t spoken to her in months. “Come, let’s go.” Maggie grabbed me by the arm and I already felt nervous. The club is packed with people. You can barely breathe inside with the smoke hanging in the air, and the smell of booze is unbearable. “Stop being such a brat, and just enjoy the night,” Maggie said, and everyone nodded in her favour. “Okay.” I sighed and everyone’s faces shook. “So what are we drinking?” Maggie examined the bar where all the booze is, and I actually would just love to have a soda. “First shooters,” she said, and my stomach already burns just thinking about it. She ordered two trays of shooters and they down it like it's water. I still struggle to get the first one down. “If you don’t drink that now, I’m telling the bartender that it’s your birthday!” she raises her brows and I down it in seconds. I know this club for having a combination of booze when it’s your birthday. Some people strip naked, not knowing what or who they are after one drink of the combination of alcohol. I down the second one, and I already feel tipsy. “Okay, let’s dance.” Maggie and Laura, the first-year medical student, dragged me to the dance floor. Everyone’s eyes are focused on me, making me feel uncomfortable. Before I could actually dance, someone else gave me another shot. What a hell, one night of fun won’t hurt me. I gulped down whatever it was and said thank you. “My pleasure, beautiful.” the voice sounded familiar but I didn’t recognise his face. Maggie and Laura danced and I felt stupid just swinging from side to side on the dance floor. Finally, a slow song came up and Mike walked towards me. Oh gosh, I promised him a dance. I don’t even know how to slow dance. He held out his hand. “May I?” he asked like a proper gentleman. How can you say no to such a gentleman? He took my hand, and we danced slowly until the feeling I had a week ago returned. The feeling of being compelled and relaxed. I looked around until someone grabbed Mike on the shoulder. “Can I have this dance with Mandy?” it was Dylan. Mike only nodded as if he went into a trance. My body went numb again like I couldn’t move. Mike walked away from me, leaving me with Dylan. “Hey,” he said, my eyes focusing on his lips. I can’t seem to tear my eyes away from him. I can’t even move. He picked me up to stand on his feet while he slowly danced with me. “What are you doing to me?” I mumbled. Words can barely escape my lips. “I want you,” he whispered into my hair. The electricity is filling my body again. This time it’s burning every single nerve inside my body. My mouth can’t get a word out. “I want you in every way. I need you,” he mumbles again, pulling me closer to him. Maggie and everyone are having a blast at the bar like no one is noticing what’s going on. You're not just my human, I want you.” what is he talking about? And why is no one noticing what’s going on? “What are you doing to me?” he asked. His eyes glowed again, making my body go numb again. “What are you doing to me?” I returned his question with my question. He pulled my dress up above my tights, grabbing my tights and no one is noticing, I can’t even fight it. His eyes are burning through mine. The yellow glowing eyes suddenly disappeared and his eyes turned back to brown. I could finally breathe and the rest of the club looks like they can focus again. Dylan was scanning the club and looked nervous. “Get home now.” “What?” I asked, surprised. “Mandy, get home now.” in seconds he vanished again like thin air in front of me.
