Before Jim or Rob quite managed to get comfortable in the suits but after he’d sent his messages, the Greponians returned in a burst of more ear-piercing squealing. The thickening streams of sweet water led to a cave entrance a few meters below the surface. No signs of guards or defenses, but they hadn’t gone all the way inside.
Jim had the clear impression they didn’t like it, especially Belles and Nesil, but they’d listened to the humans begging them not to face whatever was in the cave. Their impatience while waiting for the boat to reach the jagged face of the cliff showed even more clearly.
