CHAPTER FOUR ELENA’S POV The consequences of my bad decisions came back to bite me in the ass. I didn’t know what I was thinking when I decided to drink like my life depended on it. I couldn’t remember anything that happened after I took my last drink. My pounding head woke me up. I groaned as I rolled over to the side. The light coming in through the windows forced me to squeeze my eyes shut when I tried to open them. I stayed in bed for about five minutes before I dragged myself out of bed. I was still wearing the dress I wore to the club. My makeup was still on and a bit smudged. I went to the bathroom to clean myself up. When I got out of the bathroom, there was ibuprofen in the bedside drawer. I immediately got a bottle of water and took it. There was also a watch that didn’t belong to me. I picked it up and examined it but I couldn’t figure out who it belonged to and how it got there. I got dressed and decided to take the watch with me. There were text messages from Gabi saying they were downstairs waiting for me. I got my stuff and Hess’s downstairs. I still had a headache and my stomach was yelling at me. I spotted them at the hotel’s restaurant. There was an open seat between Gabi and Sophia, one of the other girls. “Remind me to never drink again.” I said as I took my seat. “No one would have been able to stop you. You were hellbent on drinking your problems away.” Gabi answered. “How’s your head?” “Bad. It feels like construction work is going on up there. I need food.” “We already ordered. It should be here in a few minutes.” “Thank God.” I sighed. “I found this watch on my bedside table. Have any idea who it belongs to?” I asked, showing her the watch. “I believe that belongs to me.” I looked up at the voice from the other end of the table. It was Maxim Orlov. “Oh. Uhm.” I was confused as hell. He stretched his hand and I handed the watch to him. “How the hell did Maxim Orlov’s watch get in my hotel room?” I whispered to Gabi. “He helped you get up there. You seriously don’t remember?” She asked and I shook my head. “You threw up on him. Maybe that’s why he took it off and forgot it.” My gasp drew the attention of almost the whole restaurant. “I threw up? On Maxim Orlov? Kill me now.” Gabi laughed in response. “You’ll be fine, don’t worry. He didn’t look too offended.” The food came at the perfect moment and distracted everybody. I could feel Maxim’s eyes on me while I ate my food. His stare might as well have been burning a hole through my forehead. I got the courage to lift my head and look back at him. He didn’t try to look away or back down from his stare. I got a little bit intimidated and went back to my food. I couldn’t figure out why he was still staring at me. I groaned internally when I remembered I threw up on him. Why did he have to be the one to take me to my room? I wasn’t supposed to even be in the same room as him. I’d heard conversations about him. The Italians and Russians weren’t in an open war but they weren’t friendly either. They tried their best to stay out of each other's business. I might as well have started a war by throwing up on the man. I finished my food and then we decided to go to a spa. I made myself a promise that I wouldn’t drink throughout the trip again. I didn’t want to make a bigger fool of myself. We spent the whole afternoon at the spa. It was worth it because I felt more relaxed than ever. My headache was also gone and I was feeling more refreshed. We did a little shopping before we returned to the hotel. We were heading to the club again but the guys were coming too. It was an even bigger reminder that I needed to stay away from the drinks. We all got ready by 9pm and went to the lobby to meet the guys. We decided to sit down and wait for the cars. For some reason, I could still feel Maxim staring at me. It felt like I was missing something. There had to be a reason why he was staring at me. The cars finally came and I found myself in a car with Maxim. As my luck would have it, it was just two of us and the driver in the car. The silence was thickening. There was no music to make up for it. “About last night.” I started. “I’m sorry for throwing up on you.” He was silent for about a minute and I didn’t think he would reply. “Do you even remember anything that happened?” He asked. “No.” I shook my head. “Gabi told me I threw up on you. Sorry about that and thank you for making sure I got to my room.” He grunted in response and I took it as the end of the conversation. We were the last ones to get to the club. I got a text message just before I got out of the car. It was from my dad. “I’ll take it you forgot to exchange numbers with Angelo. I’ve given him yours. When you get back from your trip, you’re going on a date with him. Call me later.” I groaned in frustration when I read the message. Throughout the whole day, I tried my best to forget about the situation and I just got reminded again. I put my phone in my purse and walked inside the club with Maxim. We went to the booth where the others were waiting for us. All my plans not to drink had already flown out the window.
