CHAPTER FIVE
MAXIM’S POV
As soon as I took my seat in the booth, my phone buzzed. I already told Andrei not to text or call me if it wasn’t an emergency. I checked my phone to see the text message from him.
It was the same old s**t. The elders were talking about me taking a wife to secure my place as the pakhan and also getting an heir. I was sick of their bullshit. There was no need for me to “secure” any place. They’d been pestering me about this since my father died. They were also raising some more concerns about me starting a war with the Italians.
I sent a message back to him saying I was going to deal with it when I got back from Vegas and then I turned off my phone.
The girls had also scurried off to the bar. There was only one girl in particular I was interested in watching. The Italian Princess. I thought she would have learned her lesson and stayed away from the drinks tonight. She obviously didn’t have a care in the world with the way she kept downing drink after drink.
I shook my head and looked away from her. I didn’t know why I was so focused on her. She already ruined my suit and almost ruined the watch I made the mistake of leaving behind last night. I needed to stay away from her.
I finished my glass in one gulp and poured myself another drink.
“You’re not going easy on the drinks tonight.” Luca said.
“We’re in Vegas.” I answered simply. He nodded in response.
I was looking for something to take my mind off things, even if it was just for the night. I was going to allow myself one night of fun before I went back to business.
It seemed like all the men had the same mindset as me. More drinks were coming to our table as we played a game of poker. The girls were on the dance floor the last time I checked.
It was almost midnight. I was wasted. I was going to pay for it when I woke up the next morning. The girls found their way back to the table. They were equally wasted, some more than others again.
“Are we ready to leave?” Luca asked.
Everybody at the table shook their heads no except the Italian Princess and me.
“I think I’m ready to leave.” She slurred.
“Are you sure?” Gabrielle asked and she nodded.
“I’m ready to leave too.” I said before I could stop myself.
“Good.” Gabrielle clapped. “You guys can leave together. I didn’t want to worry about her going alone.”
I looked at the Italian Princess but she was already staring at me. I stood up and gestured for her to do the same. She attempted to stand but almost tripped so I helped her.
“See you guys tomorrow.” I said while Elena blew kisses to the group.
We walked outside and got in the car. After driving for about five minutes in silence, she spoke up.
“We don’t have to go back to the hotel.” She said. “I don’t want to go back. I was just tired of that club. I want to go somewhere else.”
“You’re drunk. You don’t need to go somewhere else.” I answered.
“Please.” She drawled. “I promise I’m not drunk. If I were drunk would I be able to count backwards?” She started counting down from 100. She messed up even before she got to 90.
“Fine.” I sighed and instructed the driver to take us somewhere else. The logical thing to do seeing as she was still drunk was to go back to the hotel but her begging did something to me.
I also didn’t feel like returning to the hotel. I wanted to leave that club because it was suffocating.
We finally got to another club and headed straight for the bar. Elena quickly ordered drinks for both of us. I drank mine quickly and snatched hers out of her hand before she could drink it.
“Hey.” She protested. “That was mine.”
“I know. No more drinks for you. I don’t want you ruining another of my suits.”
Her cheeks flushed. “You can’t bring that up again. I already apologized.”
“Hmm.”
She didn’t give up. She kept on getting more drinks and I kept on drinking them for her.
“You’re such a gentleman.” She said. “You’d make a good husband.”
“You think?”
“Mmmhm.” She nodded. “Let’s get married.”
“Okay.” My alcohol brain was agreeing to what she was saying.
“Yay.” She squealed. “If we get married, I don’t have to marry Angelo. But what will you be getting out of this?”
“Well, I’m supposed to get a wife to secure my place as the pakhan.” I answered.
“Great. We both benefit from it. It’s a win-win situation. Come on, let’s go.” She dragged me up from my stool.
We both stumbled outside and got back in the car. I gave the driver instructions to take us to the nearest wedding chapel. I was drunk but I was also aware. The thing was I couldn’t stop myself. My brain was screaming at me, telling me what we were doing was all shades of wrong but I didn’t care.
Elena too was persistent in getting married. She dragged me into the chapel when we got there. When the guy there said they were done for the night, she started crying. I had to slip a few bills into his hands. The joy instantly returned to her face.
The ceremony went by fast, typical for a drunk late-night Vegas wedding. After we both said I do, we slipped cheap gold wedding bands onto our fingers, and then she kissed me. I wasn’t expecting the kiss so I stood still while the camera went off.
We stumbled out of the chapel and she suggested going to another club to celebrate our wedding but I was done. I needed to get her back to the hotel.
We got back to the hotel and went up to my room. As soon as I closed the door behind me, she jumped on my bones. All the restraint I’d been holding in, flew out the window. I kissed her back with the same intensity she did. I picked her up and she wrapped her legs around my torso. I walked us to the bed and deposited her on it.
