We reached an old building that looked like a really old church. Was this headquarters or was this the place they would try to kill me? I don’t even know if I could die. I can heal almost instantly, something I discovered when Rebecca started training me. She broke my nose a few times, fingers a lot of the time and a few ribs.
My theory was that my body would maybe give in eventually, but my spirit would go to heaven where I would live amongst angels if I’m even allowed in heaven. Let’s hope my body doesn’t have a breaking point. We got out of the SUV, and they led me to the front door. Caius took off his leather jacket and exposed his arms and I saw that his skin was covered in tattoos. He had ripped arms and he almost caught me staring at him. He showed one of his tattoos on his right arm to the door and the door instantly opened.
The building on the inside was huge and beautifully crafted. Though the building was old and some sort of a monument, the technology on the inside was state of the art, some of it I hadn’t even seen before. There were people rushing around with tablets in their hands working on holographic screens. Everyone stopped for a second to acknowledge Caius entering the room, and then everyone stared at me.
Great! So much for keeping a low profile and not standing out. My father is going to have a fit if he finds me. They took me downstairs to some sort of prison. The room was made out of solid rock walls and built into the wall was a glass sell. Caius opened the sell door, scanned his tattoo and took me inside.
He unwrapped my hands and put the red material in his pocket. I turned around to face him. He was closer than I had anticipated. I nearly bumped into his chest. Caius was unusually attractive, like I knew warriors were beautiful, but this man looked like he was carved by angels. His skin was wrapped tight around his muscles, he was built like a Greek god, not too big, just right.
He cleared his throat, and I snapped out of it. I didn’t even realise I was staring. I quickly took a few steps back. He smirked and walked out of the room.
“Keep an eye on her, I’ll be back soon.” He said to the guard and left.
Great, leave me with my thoughts…
There was nothing in the room except for two chairs, a table and a single bed in the corner against the stone wall. I sat down on the bed with my back against the stone wall and my knees pulled up against my chest. It was cold in here and I didn’t have my jacket with me. If I had to guess, it was maybe just after midnight now.
I closed my eyes and rested my head on my arms. Why am I not laying down on the bed? Because I’m stubborn. It felt like hours had passed when I was pulled out of sleep by the sound of the glass door opening. When I opened my eyes, I had forgotten where I was and was pulled back to reality.
It was Caius and Ajax. I got to my feet and rubbed my arms. Caius noticed I was cold and offered his leather jacket to me. I was stubborn but not stupid. I’m not about to freeze my ass off. I gladly accepted with a small smile across my face. His warm jacket felt good against my cold skin, it also smelled like him, which made my cheeks warm up.
He offered me the seat across the table from him. Ajax stood five feet behind him, keeping a suspicious eye on me. I got the feeling he didn’t like me very much. Was it because I put him on his ass or was it the fact that I was different? Or maybe it was because Caius had taken an interest in me… I gave him the same look he was giving me before I turned my gaze to Caius in front of me.
“What’s your name?” he asked me.
I sat in silence contemplating how much I would share about myself. I’ll have to share something to get them to cooperate in my plan of finding Rebecca.
“My name is Ariel,” I said, sitting back in my chair.
“Ariel, do you know what we are?” He asked with a question in his voice.
“The weapons you have with you tell me that you are Halo warriors if I’m correct?” I was not going to mention the fact that my eyes turn neon blue when I touch those with angel blood.
“That’s correct.” He said calmly.
“Where did you come from?” He asked, sitting back in his chair, getting comfortable. I could see he was tired. I didn’t feel like sleeping now that he was here. My eyes were focused on every detail now. The veins in his arms, the sharpness of his jaw, how plump his lips are, the movement his chest makes when he breathes.
“I’m from around.” I replied, trying to stay calm and not to swallow too hard when he reached with his right hand to rub his eyes and his bicep flexed.
So maybe I can’t die, but staring at this man any longer will be the death of me. So, I moved my gaze elsewhere. It was when I looked down at my hands, he asked the one question I did not want to answer.
“Ariel, what are you?” My eyes shot back up to his, but my mouth stayed shut. I was not about to answer him. We sat in silence for a while just staring at each other. In the corner of my eye, I could see Ajax starting to get impatient, he looked like he was vibrating.
Ajax rushed closer and slammed both his hands on the table, “Either you tell us what you are, or we end you!” he breathed in my face. I stayed calm the entire time, staring into the eyes of a pissed-off warrior. I turned my head to look at Caius again and he seemed amused.
“You’re not going to tell me, are you?” I just continued staring at him. Ajax pushed the table as he stood up and walked back to the door.
“You’ll tell me eventually, even if I have to make you tell me.” And with this he stood up and turned around and walked out of the glass box with Ajax on his heals. I didn’t notice I was holding my breath the whole time. I let out a big sigh and decided to lie down on the bed…
