I woke up the next morning still wrapped in Caius’s jacket. It still smelled like him. When I opened my eyes, I was startled by the figure standing in front of me and I quickly sat up. His voice was all too familiar.
“Dad, before you get mad.” I started to defend myself.
“I’m already mad!” he said, scaring me with his deep, angry voice.
“I’m fine! I promise, I have everything under control.”
“Control?” he repeated after me.
“You are locked in a glass box like a zoo animal.” He went on saying.
“Do you know what will happen if they find out who and what you are? Did you even think about the consequences this would have not just on your life but on the lives around you and the chaos this will create in heaven if they found out you exist?” There was a mixture of anger and disappointment in his voice.
“I didn’t ask you and mom to fall in love!” I started back at him.
“I did not ask to be born into this situation. I didn’t want to be the mistake you have to hide from the world.” That last part I whispered as I saw his face only showed only hurt now.
He sat down on the bed next to me and put his hand on my knee.
“You are not a mistake, angel. You are the miracle that happened to your mother and me.
“You are proof that good can still come from this war.” He wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and I leaned into him.
“I’m sorry you had to hide your whole life. I know this life is not ideal, but it was the only way of keeping you safe.” Not saying anything, I just nodded my head against his chest. He pushed me back so that he could look me in the eyes.
“You are not safe here. If the demon world had to find out there was an angel walking on earth, they would come for you. Your DNA will make the perfect weapon against the angel world. They could create stronger demons.”
“I just need to find Rebecca, then I promise I'll be out of here. I have a bad feeling that she’s in trouble.” Now looking at him with hopeful eyes.
“I don’t like this; I don’t like this at all.” He sighed heavily.
“Fine, but know I’m not happy with this and get yourself out of here before all of hell breaks loose.”
And with that last warning he disappeared. I was alone again in this cold box. I looked over to see that the guard didn’t notice I was talking to what looked like myself. He was standing far away with his back to me. No one came to see me for three days.
Only the guard came in to bring me food, but he did not even speak one word to me. I was getting impatient and needed to find Rebecca. I got angry at them for leaving me here like a criminal when I hadn’t even done anything wrong. I started pacing the days away. Sure, I could try to break out of the glass box, but I have a feeling it was built to keep demons and other creatures inside and I would have little luck with finding my way out of here, plus I still needed their help to find Rebecca….
