Pov. Caius
I arranged with an undercover warrior to meet me at a night club in the city. My team had the place surrounded and under surveillance. But instead of meeting with one of our warriors, I bumped into her. I have no idea what she is but there was something about her, I just couldn’t put my finger on it. And when I touched her, her eyes turned neon blue. I have no idea what this means, but I want to know who and what she was. She’s no demon, that I’m sure of. There’s a sort of peace about her and that makes me curious to know what she was.
I’ve been avoiding her because she’s completely consumed my thoughts. I don’t believe she’s a threat, or I don’t want to believe that she is, but one thing I’m certain of was that she was stronger than she looked. I’ve never seen Ajax fall on his arse like that with only one blow.
But I didn’t have time for distractions, there was a war going on right now, and as leader of the Halo, I had to find the key to winning this thing.
I went back down to the hub to find my team. They were standing together, watching one of the big screens with data running over the screen. As I walked closer, I called out to them.
“Ajax, Izzy, Luce, where are we at?”
“On a mission, 3 warriors were injured on their last mission,” Izzy informed me.
“What is the extent of their injuries?”
“They have been drained from their blood.” Ajax said unsteady.
This has been happening more and more lately. The good thing was that we could heal a little faster than humans, but were not immortal. The demons are using our blood to increase their strength. From what we’ve gathered so far, the strength doesn’t last very long.
“Get a team ready to retrieve the lost warriors, no one gets taken, do you understand?” All three of them nod and turn around to leave.
“Ajax.” He turned around and came back.
“What did you find out about Ariel?” Earlier that day, I asked him to see if he could find any information on her. He looked hopeless for a moment and answered.
“There’s nothing. I could not find anything about her. No medical records, no residency, no schools, no social security numbers, nothing. It’s like she doesn’t exist.”
How is it possible for someone not to exist? Someone did a really good job at hiding her and obviously didn’t want her to be found. Who is she? Ajax was staring at my confused face this whole time, waiting to hear what I was thinking.
“Thank you, my friend, keep digging, and tell me if you find something.”
“Of course.” He turned around and left. He was a good friend, a little hot-headed, but I could always rely on him.
It's 2 am and I can’t fall asleep. I’m tossing and turning in my bed. I threw the covers off because my skin was damp, I needed to see her, she’s all I can think about. I need to know who and what she is . I sat up in bed rubbing my hands over my face. What is wrong with me? This has never happened to me before. I mean I’ve been with my share of women before, but never have I obsessed over someone like this. This was completely out of my character.
I got out of bed, and walked to my door, realizing that I only had a pair of black sweatpants on. Barefoot I walked across the cold tile floor all the way down to the glass sell that kept Ariel here. Just as I reached the door and realized my heart was pounding like crazy and my palms were sweaty. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
“Get a hold of yourself.” I whispered underneath my breath. When I entered the room, the first thing I saw was the guard, Rafael, who watched over her. He was drinking coffee and reading some sort of book. I had guards working 8-hour shifts watching her. Startled by my presence, he sat up and greeted me.
“Good morning, Rafael, would you give me a minute please?” I smiled at his troubled face.
“Of course, sir, I’ll just be outside, sir.” He walked to the door.
“Thank you.”
When I turned back around, she was looking right at me from the other side of the glass wall. She had the most intriguing look on her face. I wish I could read her mind. She was looking at me from head to toe. I felt hot on the inside, knowing she saw my bare chest. We stood there staring at each other for what felt like a long time. Why did I come? What was I going to say to her? Have I lost my mind?
“How are you?” slipped out of my mouth. What the hell Caius, how would you be if you were held a prisoner?
She frowned, “I’ve been better.”
“Of course, you have been, I apologize that was stupid of me to ask.” She did not say anything back and we stood in silence once again.
“You know you wouldn’t have to be in that sell if you would just tell me what you are.” At this statement she walked closer to the glass and replied.
“Even if I do tell you, I’d still end up in this box. So, I’d rather keep it to myself and stay here.”
“But you don’t have to, I just need to know if you are dangerous or not. If not then I will let you go, but if not, only then you’ll have to stay. So, witch, is it?” I knew she wasn’t a demon, but she was something.
“I’m sure I could be both.” She said crossing her arms. This is so frustrating, she’s not going to tell me like this.
“Is there anything I could do for you to make you more comfortable?”
She looked around for a second and said, “If I could take a shower maybe, that would really be nice.” This made me smile.
“I’m sure we can arrange that.” Staring deep into her eyes.
“Rafael!” I called to the door. Rafael entered the room and I signalled for him to come closer.
“I’m going to move Ariel for an hour or two, please be on standby.” Rafael nodded and stood by quietly. I unlocked the glass door and entered the sell.
