POV Ariel
I’ve been in this sell for three days and the only people I’ve seen were the guards coming and going. I don’t really know what time he entered the room, but I know it was early in the morning. I had trouble sleeping. I didn’t seem to get so warm and I’m still in the same clothes I'd arrived in. All I wanted other than to be home right now, a warm shower and a comfortable bed.
I was pacing, trying to figure out my next move. How am I going to find Rebecca? It was at this moment I saw the guard walking outside when I saw Caius standing there. All the angels in heaven helped me because I could not look away from the figure dressed in only black sweatpants.
Every part of him was prominent, every muscle, every vein, right down to the V lines on his stomach where the edge of his sweatpants barely rested. Confidently, he stood there watching me as I prayed with open eyes for the heavens to swallow me in. Be still my beating heart and breathe.
He asked me if there was anything I wanted to make me more comfortable. Yes, I needed him to leave so that I could catch my breath. I could really use a shower right about now, I thought. When I answered him, he went inside the glass box not helping at all with my breathing. He stood right in front of me. I could feel the heat radiating from his skin. Heaven, how was he this warm?
“Can I have both your hands please?” he asked with eyes piercing mine. I lifted both my hands, and he took out the long piece of red material. He took both my hands in one hand and as soon as his skin touched mine my eyes lit up in its neon colour and he immediately looked at my eyes again. For a moment, we stood there in silence, like he was waiting for something to happen.
His hands were warm against mine. They almost felt like they were burning. My heart was racing again, I could feel heat gathering in my cheeks. I moved a bit and it seemed to have reminded him that he was still holding on to me. He quickly looked down and wrapped my wrists with the red stretchy material.
We walked out of the sell and into a dark hallway. He held on to my wrist and led me through the building with Rafael only a few feet away. We walked down a long corridor and stopped in front of big wooden doors. He told Rafael to stay outside and opened the doors in front of him. The room was dark but with some moonlight piercing in, I could see it was a bedroom and from the scent in the room I could tell it was his room. He turned on the lights, but they were still dimmed. I could see his bed had been slept in, which meant he was already in bed before he came to see me. I turned to him.
“What am I doing in here?”
“You said you wanted to shower. I can’t risk anyone seeing you, so I brought you to my room. Shower is through those doors.”
He pointed to the dark wooden door at the other end of the room. He walked over to his closet and took out a black t-shirt and handed it to me.
“There are fresh towels in the bathroom.” He said and for a moment it looked like he was waiting for me to walk away, but I stood there waiting.
“Is there anything else you need?” he asked in his deep raspy voice.
“It would be really kind of you if you could untie my hands, please.” I softly replied softly.
He reached over and unwrapped my hands. Again my eyes lit up as he touched my skin. For a second, he held on to my wrist and asked with amusement in his eyes.
“Why do your eyes light up every time I touch you?” I looked at him, contemplating in my mind my answer.
“It’s because of your angel blood.” I said, trying hard to avoid his gaze.
“Then what does that make you?” he asked. At this question, I softly pulled my arm out of his hand and looked him straight in the eyes.
“Thank you for your kindness, I really do appreciate it.” I turned around and walked through the bathroom doors.
Thank the heavens I was out of his grip. I rushed to get undressed and got into the shower. The warm water on my skin felt like fire. I stood there with the water running over me and enjoying every bit of it. I took all the time in the world to wash my hair and my body. My skin was red from the warm water. I pulled his shirt over my head, it just about covered my ass. I hung the towel and shook my hair with my hand, leaving it messy and damp.
I entered the room again and saw Caius sitting on the corner of his bed with his face in his hands. Heavens help me, I wondered what his hair would feel like between my fingers. He lifted his head when I entered the room again and I saw the blood draining from his face. He looked like he was going to pass out.
“Are you okay?” I asked, unsure what was happening.
He looked at me from head to toe and I could tell I had just interrupted a very deep thought. He closed his eyes for a second and cleared his throat.
“Yes, I’m fine, how was your shower?” Ignore his reaction, I replied.
“It was wonderful thank you.” He smiled, he turned around and picked up from the bed what looked like more clothes and handed it to me.
It was a pair of grey sweatpants and a grey hoodie. I took them from him and he turned around as I put them on. It felt nice and warm, and it smelled like him, which I did not hate.
“I’m done,” I said, and he turned around.
“Thank you again.” I smiled. I lifted my wrists again so that he could tie them together again.
He looked at my hands and for a moment he looked like he hesitated to tie them again. Instead, he looked back up at me and asked.
“Why are you here?” with a deep frown on his face.
“Because I’m a prisoner,” I said plainly.
“Bullshit. Ajax is one of my best fighters and you managed to drop him like he weighed nothing. How is that possible? You didn’t even get in a fight, or complain, or try to escape. Why is that?”
I took a deep breath, thinking about whether now was the time to tell him about Rebecca.
“You’re right, I’m not resisting because I need your help. My guardian and friend went missing a few weeks ago and I need your help to find her.”
“And why would we know where your friend is?” he asked.
“Because she’s one of you.”
His face went blank.
“Who is the warrior you’re looking for?”
I swallowed loudly, unsure if I was doing the right thing. We had a moment of silence while I contemplated my thoughts. He came closer, close enough for me to feel the heat of his body again, and now with seriousness in his voice he said.
“Ariel, if one of my agents is missing or in trouble, I need to know about it.”
He was making sense; it was me who was scared to reveal this much of myself. Never have I ever talked about my personal life to anyone except for Rebecca. I looked up at him.
“Rebecca, she used to be my guardian. She went away on a mission a few weeks ago and she hasn’t returned yet. She would usually stay in contact during her missions, but this time was different. I haven’t heard from her in all this time and it’s not like her.”
I could see the wheels turning in his head as he tried to make sense of what I had just said.
“I didn’t even know Rebecca was someone’s guardian.” He said with confusion on his face. “She’s still out on a mission but she’s undercover. We haven’t received any feedback from her yet.” He kind of whispered this to himself like he was figuring it out for himself.
He was quiet for a moment and then his eyes shot up to mine.
“Why did she hide you from us?”
Ignoring his question again, I wanted to know more about Rebecca.
“Is it normal for agents not to contact you when they are working undercover?” I asked with concern and a hint of irritation in my voice. His voice picked up a little with what I assumed was frustration at my ignoring his question.
“No, they have to check in every other day so that we are aware of the situation at hand, but it has happened in the past when they were really deep undercover not to report back as soon as possible.”
Frustrated that I was the only person concerned about her whereabouts and pacing the bedroom now.
“So, no one here has thought of contacting her or looking into the fact that she’s not back yet?”
“She’s on a private mission from England, no one has information on where she is or what she’s doing, she’s one of the best we have. If she’s in any kind of trouble, we would know about it.” He said a little louder. He came closer to me again, stopping me from pacing.
“Now why did she hide you from us?” This sounder more like a warning.
“Why does it bother you so much to know what I am?” I raised my voice.
“I need to know.” He kept pushing.
I pushed past him trying to walk to the door, but he grabbed my arm and pushed me against the wall, both of us panting softly. His face was close to mine, I could feel his breath on my face. He held my hands above my head and pressed his body against mine so I couldn’t move. Well, I could get out of there if I really wanted to but something in me didn’t want to fight him off.
“Why did Rebecca hide you from us?” I closed my eyes and pressed my head against the wall because I could feel is bare body pressing against me and my eyes were glowing brighter than ever.
“Because I’m not human.” I whispered as I kept my eyes closed. Waiting for him to say something.
“I can see that, I need to know if you are dangerous or not.”
I opened my eyes to see his green eyes staring straight into mine. From the look in his eyes, I could tell he was angry and probably frustrated. I would be too if I were in his shoes, but he’s not in my shoes. All I’ve ever known was fear that other people will use me or hunt me. How am I supposed to explain that to him?
There was a long moment of silence as tension between us built up. I was staring into the eyes of a hungry lion, Caius was the type of man no one dared to defy. As I opened my mouth to try and explain, a knock on the door pulled him away from me.
