I sneaked a look at her and was surprised to see her smiling brightly. ‘You were so scary that time, Taki.’ ‘That time?’ ‘Yes, the day before Mr. Itakura went back to his hometown,’ she went on, still smiling. ‘You were really anxious for me, I know, but I got a bit short with you after that, didn’t I? It’s been really bothering me all this time, you know. I’m so glad I could tell you that now,’ she said smoothly, then stood up and went over to the veranda. *** What on earth did I mean to write about? Even now, at my age, I’m still stung with regrets.
