Chapter 4

Lycan’s shift for the first time when they turn 18. It’s an extremely painful experience, every bone breaks, nails slice open the skin, large teeth rip through the gums. This happened to Roman years too early, 3 years too early to be exact. In his case his beast came forward from the sheer pain and fear Roman was feeling from losing his parents. As Roman shifted, the rouge that killed his mother disappeared into the night. Roman let out a raw and anguished, roar that stopped everyone in their tracks. Roman then charged the pack of rouges remaining taking them out, single-handedly, blinded by his emotions. His father’s army followed him, and together they defeated those who tried to dethrone his family. Roman stood on the battlefield covered in the blood of his enemies looking at his dead parents and the dead rouges that changed his life forever. He didn’t feel vindicated just yet. The smell of blood and death surrounded him, and he wanted more of it. Vengeance ran through his body and he wouldn’t stop killing his enemies. Roman would find the leader of these rouges and he would pay. (end of flash back) There were many more battles that came and went after that day and Roman and his men won them all. King Roman put all his hate for the rouges into each battle, he tore the evil wolves limb from limb with his bare hands. As for the rogues that weren’t killed on site, they were dragged to the dungeons to be tortured for information in the most horrific way. I headed down to the dungeon to get information on this particular night. The dungeon was dark, only lite by torches along the damp mold covered walls. The dirt and pebble covered floor crunched beneath my boots. The smell of rouges filled my nose, a putrid smell. Going rogue changed everything about a typical werewolf, it’s smell for one and it’s behavior for another. I spotted my target, the rouge was chained up to the wall with silver. I sneered at it when could hear and smell the bastard’s skin sizzling and burning, but I didn’t give a damn. “I hope your comfortable, you have a long night.” I drawled as I leaned against the dungeon wall. “f**k you!” Spat the rouge. “Done with pleasantries I see.” My smile was filled with malice intent. The rouge started to shake. “Thomas! Get the whip and some tools, I’m going to play a game.” Thomas, my Beta, appeared a few moments later with everything that I asked for covered in blood. “Thomas, You’ve gotten a little something on your shirt.” I said mocking shock. “I hated this shirt anyways.” Thomas smirked. “Carry on then. I have work to do.” I rumbled in a tone so low it vibrated off the walls. Thomas left to continue his efforts to extract information from another rouge. “The game is called ‘Tell me what I want to know or die slowing and painfully. Where is your leader, rouge?” I asked in a commanding tone. The rouge didn’t answer but it was clear it was paining him to fight my command. I cracked the whip across the man’s chest and again across his face. The rouge screamed, I asked again and the man spit blood on my boots. “How’s the Luna?…..Oh yea! You have no Luna. I hope you slip into insanity and your Kingdom falls!” cackled the rouge. Rage took over and I shoved a silver chain into the rouges mouth and I smiled as the rouge’s face started to burn and the rouge’s screams were muffled. He started to gurgle, and choke on his blood. That night the rouge didn’t give me the answers I wanted and ultimately lost his life. Some nights all of the land could hear was the screams of the rogues. The battles were ongoing over the years, we won all the battles but year after year the leader of the rouges was never found. Every night I laid in bed I would toss and turn, I still had nightmares about the night I failed my parents. I would sit up in a cold sweat jolted awake. I knew deep down it was because trouble was brewing in my inner peace and the land. I was 33 and had yet to find my mate. It sometimes felt that the Moon Goddess was torturing me for being so cruel to the rogues. I could feel myself grow more irritable by the day, maybe the Goddess never meant to give me a mate. Or maybe..dread fill my body, she was dead and lost forever. The fear of losing everything that I had worked so hard for was overwhelming. A year ago news started making the rounds of rogues, starting their own packs and planning a revenge on my kingdom. Villages around the land were being ransacked, and were getting hurt. My men were able to hunt down a few rouges and question them but they chose to be silent and take the barbaric torture. Time was running out, I needed to find my mate to make myself whole. I knew my she wolf or lycan, or maybe she was another creature all together. I knew my mate was out there somewhere, she had to be. I’ve looked everywhere for years. I knew that things will get worse, and I may not be as strong as I should be or sane. I got out of bed and looked out the window and up at the sky. “Where are you? Moon Goddess why do you torment me? Please my kingdom and sanity are at risk. I need my mate and Luna.” I pleaded, It was still dark outside but would be dawn soon, I decided to head to the training grounds early to start working. Training Grounds Later that day. “Attention!!” “Hand to hand combat ready!” “Begin!!” I Roared, I scanned my new troops. It was just dawn and a fog had not yet lifted, the cool air helped me stay focused. I could see my breath as I spoke. The young Lycans lunged at one other on the cool, damp field hitting and grunting as they sparred. I chose to spar with 3 soldiers because my Beta decided to be late this morning. Roman only wore shorts showing off his steal like muscles that rippled as he moved, he crouched down and put his hands up in the ready position. One soldier swallowed with wide eyes. Roman smirked, “ 3 on 1 soldier, the odds are in your favor. I’m ready when you are” All 3 men attacked their Alpha, in a display of speed and strength I flipped one over my head with 1 hand while simultaneously gripping another by the neck lifting him up and slamming him to the ground with the other. The 3rd soldier stood frozen, I shook his head not happy with the 3rd soldier and unimpressed with the other two. “Go back to basics!” I snapped. All 3 hurried over to that area on the field with their heads hung low. I continued with this readiness training until I got through all of the new soldiers before standing on the edge of the field. Looking on I analyzed my new warriors. “Whipping the new comers into shape I see.” Thomas commented in amusement as he climbed the hill towards the training grounds. “Morning Thomas” I sighed with disapproval “Nice of you to join us.” “What? I took some me time between last night and this morning.” Thomas said with a wide grind. I narrowed his eyes. “Talked another woman into going to your bed? What will your mate think when you find her?” I said with a roll of his eyes. Thomas got more action in the bedroom then most of the beasts in his land. Thomas was 5 years younger than his Alpha friend, stood at 6ft 3inches, brown shoulder length hair, deep brown eyes, bright wide smile with a dimples on his cheeks, and cut muscles on a lean frame. Women loved being around him with his charm, looks and easy going nature. “She’ll be happy I learned so much! Wouldn’t kill you to do it more often too, maybe you wouldn’t be so ridged and grumpy! Goddess knows you have a line of women just wanting a chance.” teased Thomas. With another else those comments would get you landed in the infirmary. But Thomas being the Beta, my best and oldest friend got away with a lot. Roman was 6 foot 5 inches, heavily muscled, wide back, tapered waist, cold green eyes, chiseled jaw, and dark brown, short wavy hair. He knew he could have any women he wanted, but longed for his mate. He had slept with a handful women over the years but didn’t like hoping around. Helena was his bed warmer of choice over the past two years, we would hook up most nights. There was no relationship between us and I never took many different women to my chambers. I shook his head “I have my fair share, my kingdom keeps me busy. I need to be vigilant I have many responsibilities. I have a meeting with our resident witch. Take over for me.” Roman started back to the castle so that Thomas could take over the training. Thomas looked in the King’s direction. The Beta was actually looking for his mate all the time with no luck, but didn’t let it get him down. He had faith that they would find each other. Thomas truly felt bad for his King, his friend. He sent up another prayer to the Moon Goddess that Roman would find his mate soon. Thomas could see the change in his Alpha over the past a few years. He was a great alpha but his thirst for revenge was getting stronger and his beast took over more often. He hoped his King could last for the sake of his kingdom. Thomas didn’t want to take control of the throne and he didn’t want to be killed my his best friend.
