Chapter Thirty-Seven

I think it’s safe to say I am floating somewhere between feeling so much emotion and being completely emotionless. The slow walk I take back up to my room that evening makes my feet drag heavily on the carpet and my heart stammers with each step like I’m climbing up Mount Everest and not three flights of steep stairs. But it’s not until I fling open the door to my room and hurl myself onto my bed, that I let myself finally cry. I’m not sure what compels me to do so, maybe my upcoming period or the fact I have never felt more confused about everything in my life, but the tears fall, squished by my pillow and the sound muffled by my heaving breaths. Time passes without much notice and at some point I must drift off to sleep because the next thing I know, the door comes flying open again, sl
