The start of a new life
It was raining heavily, I was dreaming about riding a horse, I think they are my spirit animal you know… “honey wake up, time to get ready for school”
Well here we go another day at high school; I only just moved home town and it was my first day at this new school. I’m a very quiet girl and I get so nervous around everyone, I used to get called “cricket” because they can’t be heard very easily.
Hmm what should I wear!
This dark green hoody and jeans will do, messy bun and some white trainers, oh and can’t forget my books!
Morning mum, morning dad, do I really need to go to school today? I ask desperately wishing they will let me stay home, even though I know that’s false hopes.
Dad looks over at me, fixing his glasses, “we’ve gone through this already, you need to go to school as me and your mum need to go to work; oh I’m gonna be late, see you both later”
He runs to his car getting his case file, wearing a black and white suit like his going to a funeral and his hair messy blonde with brown balayage.
“He never has time to talk to me mum” I sigh. Mum speak softly,“You know your dad, his a police officer, he has to be at work in time as you never know, one police officer down could impact. someone’s life”
“Okay let’s get you to school young lady” mum laughs picking up her car keys. Mum has brown hair, blue eyes and tanned skin, she looks younger than she looks, so many people have even asked if she was my sister!
We get in the car and start driving, it’s about a ten minute drive but I enjoy it as I get to take in all the beautiful scenery we drive past. It’s been raining and it’s cold so all the leafs on the trees swing from one side to the other, the flowers on the ground look like they’re dancing with the grass and birds are chirping from the tree above.
The school I go to looks exactly like a castle from the outside but when you go in it’s just an ordinary school with a small playground in the front; not we’re okay fighting, girls were gossiping and me, well I was just leaving the car.
I feel so nervous stepping into the school, a boy was sat on the steps of the school, “hi, are you knew?” Beautiful blue eyes looked straight into my hazel eyes, as if he was trying to read me, my heart started racing and before I knew it I was running into the school hall.
Why did I have to run away? Ugh, come on, the first chance I get to make a friend, I run away, well done Pipa! I blurted it loud sarcastically.
Those blue eyes again, he was stood right next to me, I froze … “hi my name is Austin”, we just stared into each other’s eyes for a few minutes, suddenly the bell rang and it filled the hall with its loud ringing. “Hi, my names Pipa!” I shouted.
He smiled and we walked into class, coincidentally we were in the same class and he was sat right behind my designated seat.
“Oh new girl, be careful, last time someone sat in that seat …” a group of girls approached me as I took out my books from my bag, Austin interrupted, “shut up Hazel, that’s just an old story”, I looked at Hazel and Austin, both their eyes were bright and sparkled. They looked at me with this worried look but i wasn’t fazed, I’m sure they were just trying to scare me, but what happened to that girl before?
“Everyone quiet!” a loud voice filled the room. It was the teacher, Mr Bark, he is our tutor and teaches us about life, he continued, “so today we will be talking about family, everyone get their seats into the middle and form a circle, move the tables to the back of the room, oh and welcome to our class Pipa” he smiled. We all sat around in a circle and started talking about our families, it came to my turn and I felt anxious, everyone was staring at me, finally after a long pause I spoke “hi I’m Pipa, I’m 16 years old, my mum has been sick for a while but we don’t know why, so she stays at home, my dad is a police officer and works every single day to provide for us”
The bell suddenly rings, “hey new girl, sit with us at lunch?” Hazel asks.
I follow them to the school canteen, it’s large, there are orange and blue cushions to sit on, big round tables and a little kitchen where the chef makes the food. “Mmm it smelled so nice”, plate of the day was steak with chips, rice and salad. After I got my plate I went to sit at the same table as Hazel and the other girls, Oceania and Liddie. “So what happened to that girl who sat in my seat before” I laughed awkwardly. They looked at each other as if they didn’t want me to know anymore. Hazel put her fork and knife down and cleared her throat, she looked at me and said “she was a new girl here, just like you, quiet and nice but two years ago she changed. She became crazy and then after a few months she just stopped turning up for school, no one knows the real story behind what happened”
Curiosity filled my mind, I wanted to know why she became the so called crazy girl I’m school. “So are there rumours about what happened to her?”
Liddie answered this time with a sharp tone in her voice “her mum and dad they say were doctors, they cured many people with cancer, people believe she became crazy because she became a vampire”, they all laughed and then Oceania interrupted “but obviously that’s not a true story, there no vampires in this world”
After lunch we went to class and then at three in the afternoon it was home time, I hadn’t seen Austin the whole day, but I thought maybe he was just in a different class from me. “new girl” someone shouted, I recognised that voice, a male voice; as I go to turn around someone grabs my arm.
“Don’t talk to him” Austin whispers. I didn’t know who it was as I didn’t have time to look back, it made me feel angry the way he grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the school hall. “You don’t tell me what I can and can’t do” I blurted out.
Austin was flustered and softly spoke “sorry, I didn’t mean to … the thing is, he’s not a nice person and you should stay away”
I had no words and decided to start walking home, as I look back Austin is watching me with a worried expression in his face; he runs up to me and asks to walk me home, so I let him as I feel bad for shouting at him earlier. As we walk home, our hands brush against each other so I shyly put my hand in my pocket, we both look at each other and smile “so…” we both speak at the same time and softly laugh.
I let Austin speak, he shrugs and proceeds to apologise again, he explains that he didn’t mean to seem obsessive. Today was the first time we ever met but I feel like I already have some sort of connection with him, my heart races every time I’m around him.
Suddenly, he stops and grabs both my arms, his face is so close to mine that the tips of our nose almost touch “green eyes”, Austin softly speaks; I blush and look away, he quickly steps back and looks all around whilst grabbing my arm. We continue to walk in silence for a bit longer until we get to my house, “well I’m home” he waves goodbye and smiles saying “see you at school”.
Austin’s Prologue
It was the morning of the first day of spring, it was cold outside. I get up to have breakfast, it’s only 6:30 in the morning but I can’t sleep anymore, for some reason something is telling me to wake up, I don’t know why but I know I just need to get up and go to school.
A long glass table stood in the middle of a large room with white walls, a chandelier on the ceiling and orchids right under the chandelier, in the middle of the table. Food surrounded those flowers, breakfast cereals, full English breakfast all separated in a buffet server and fruit. I take an apple and start eating, a tall man enters the room and sits on the end of the table, pouring his tea into his cup, takes out a newspaper and starts reading whilst sipping his tea. “Good morning father” I say.
“You’re up early today, is something the matter” the father answers. “No I just needed to wake up, I thought it would be good to start my day nice and early” I speak.
“Austin you know today we have a meeting with Mr and Mrs Rudwigs so make sure you come straight home after school.
I look over at my father, I really don’t want to meet them, they have a daughter called Hazel, she’s been pestering me for so long, she wants me to approve of her and date her and so do my parents but I know my heart aches to find that missing piece, I need to find it.
I need to find her.
I finish my breakfast and walk over to get my bag, my mother walks down the wooden stairs holding the rail. Her long auburn hair locks fall over her shoulders and her long white velvet dress sways along the stairs as she walks. “Good morning my son Austin” I greet her and leave for school, picking up my bag that’s fallen on the floor next to the front door. As I walk to school, I feel the air, these sounds of the wind in the trees and the rustling of the leaves are enchanting, it makes me feel calm, I breathe in and out when suddenly something catches my eye. My heart is beating faster and faster, a car goes past, a girl is looking out of the window, so beautiful.
Shes my mate, I need to find her.
When I got to school, my heart started pacing again, I looked around but couldn’t see her so I sat down on the steps at the front of school, a girl approached me, could she be… suddenly I find myself speaking to her. She was timid and her voice so angelic, it made me feel so calm. Her brown hair was tied in a bun, little locks of hair fell onto her face, she lifts her hand to move her hair from her face and after we talk we both go to class, this was my first encounter with my mate.
I see her again in class and again at lunch, but she doesn’t notice me, suddenly the bell rings and it’s time for class again. My subject this time is physical activities, today we’re doing football. Sebastian, the only boy in my class who had betrayed my trust is doing football too, we are born enemies who can never be friends. After class is over, it’s home time; Sebastian shouts out “Pipa”.
SHES MINE. Why is he calling her, he knows her? I need to make sure she doesn’t speak to him.
I grab Pipas arm and drag her out of the hall to the front of the school, she seems angry but my words just come, I ask her to not speak to Sebastian, I don’t want her to get hurt. After I apologise she walks away, I see him coming towards us so I run over to her and walk her home. My heart aches, I need to know if she’s really my mate, the need to feel her lips on mine is making me feel agitated, I get close to her but suddenly I hear footsteps.
He’s following us. I look around and see him so I grab Pipas arm and proceed to continue walking to her house. As she goes inside Sebastian walks over “I see that you’ve found a new possession”
I look over and I growl quietly “she’s not a thing you can just play with, she’s mine (growls again whilst throwing a punch at Sebastian’s chest)
Sebastian shows his fangs whilst hissing and goes into his car.
Many people in this world are just human and they are oblivious to the existence of so called, mythical creatures. Recently, there has been many murders around this town and I think it is something to do with the girl who went missing two years ago, Lyra, she couldn’t control her thirst for blood; before she left school I got a paper cut and she had to take me to the nurse, this was when I found out she was a vampire; she tried to bite my arm where the blood poured out from, soon she realised I was a wolf by the taste of my blood. We grew up together but by our 14th birthday we were separated, our parents both work together as they were doctors, still are.
They don’t speak as much as they used to since the day Lyra almost killed me, I forgot everything that happened and only have memories starting from my 16th birthday. I believe Lyra is innocent though, she was like a sister to me, why would she try to kill me? My wolf tells me Sebastian has something to do with what happened that night but I can’t remember.
I am a wolf, Sebastian is a vampire.
