The event was taking place at a high end hotel not too far away. It boasts of having many well known figures and celebrities as their guest not to mention it was fully booked for most of the year.
The floors were of a wood that had a glossy finish to it which only brought out the natural detail of it. Chandeliers of the same shape but varying sized graced the magnificent ceiling above. The decor was rather elegant and held no trace of whimsy. Even the music came from a small balcony that hosted formally dressed violinists and the works.
Justin had hooked my arm into the crook of his right before we could enter and as expected, majority of the rooms occupants stopped whatever they were doing to stare boldly at us. The rooms conversation hushed while the music wasn't deterred.
I spotted a few people who I knew like Jenna who was to the corner of the room with a champagne glass in her hand and her husband to standing behind her. Doctor Eden was here with his wife who seemed half his age but really wasn't. She just didn't seem to age. Liana was glaring quiet hatefully a tall figure that was looming over her. The man's back was to me so I couldn't see who it was.
Everyone seemed to go about their business again and aside from the sly eye darting glance, all was good again except for one person.
Justin felt me tense and he followed my gaze to where Chase Wright stood. His eyes were as dark as coal, his jaw painfully clenched and his hand seemed to be clutching his drink too tightly that it may just break. His eyes danced along the length of me and Justin pulled me closer to him which only made his eyes move to Justin.
Chase stared furiously at Justin and Justin returned it without even the slightest of hesitation. Chase took a sip of his drink dangerously slowly, eye never leaving us, then turned and slowly walked to the other side of the room.
"He's also a benefactor. Who knew a man like him cared for such events." Justin barely listened to what I was saying and seemed to be too distracted by something else. I was on the verge of asking what the matter was but Liana called my name as she approached us with an exasperated look on her face. The man was in full view of me since he now followed her to us with a smirk on his face which slowly vanished when he spotted us. I was speechless to see Adam trailing behind her but I should've known since he seemed to be the only one these days that got on her last nerves.
She huffed as she stopped in front of me. "Thank God you're here. One more second with that man and I was going to smack him." She motioned with her eyes to where Adam was still a bit behind her. I laughed and so did Justin.
"Just punch him in the eye again. His face does look drab without them." Adam, who now stood next to Liana, shot Justin a glare but he didn't care. The two men excused themselves to get a drink from the bar that was situated in the middle of the space.
"So, Adam and you seem to be hitting it off." I got out when we were alone. She huffed again and her eyes narrowed. She really didn't like him.
"He's a pain in the butt and not a good one." I laughed at her innuendo and just as she was going to say something, a throat cleared behind us. Turning to see Dr Eden and his wife who wore a stunning black dress.
"You finally made it, Kid. Certainly worked hard for this too." I smiled as he praised me and so did his wife. Doctor Eden had always taken me on big cases and thought me much of what I know.
"I owe a lot to you. After all, you made sure my name was on as many files as possible." He waved it off with his hand and a scoff, his dress shifting with the movement.
"I did nothing but you really had it in you and I couldn't let such intelligence go to waste." I blushed and his wife stepped forward.
Her red lips curling into a gentle smile. You'd never say that she had three children. "Brandon tells me you're leaving for Greece." I nodded to which her smiled widened. "You'll love it there, truly."
The disturbing noise of a microphone being switched on interrupted us as the elderly man known as Mr Fowler, who was the founder of the centre, greeted everyone then asked us to take our seats set out along the one side of the room.
After a welcome speech followed a history of the centre and its opportunity for trainees then a congratulatory message to all who were now qualified and after that, a vote of thanks to the beneficiaries, the evening began to flow again.
Liana excused herself to use the bathroom and I started to search for Justin. I couldn't spot him at the bar anymore. The music resumed slowly and most of the people engaged themselves in slow dancing.
I felt the pride well up in my chest. It was finally here. I was finally done and qualified. The first two years of training were the toughest but now that I think about it, it was all actually worth it. I did it.
"You just don't take instructions, do you?" A cold shiver ran down my spine, my heart beat faltered and my eyes widened at the voice behind me.
Chase stood there nursing what seemed to be too much of alcohol in his hand but that didn't manage to damper his anger only enhance it.
I pulled out the box from my purse and held it out to him. He glared at me and when he didn't make a move to take it, I slid it into his hand that was resting on his side. Not wanting to create a scene by engaging with him, I turned to leave but he he caught hold of my hand placing it in in his tightly.
I didn't bother to free my hand because I knew it would be futile. "You're coming home with me tonight and I'm going to make sure that you never leave this country unless it's with me." His liquor laced breath fanned my face. The man held my hand so firmly that I couldn't even turn to look for my savior.
I took a deep breath. "Look, Chase, you'd gain nothing from this alliance with my father. It's better for you to just take the money I owe you and somehow get the remainder from my father and move on." He laughed at my works then took a sip of his drink. He was directing us towards the exit and the panic rose within me.
"You don't worry your pretty head about that. Just provide me with children and warm my bed and we'll do just fine." His voice was sickly sweet when he was anything but. The visual of even being intimate with the man was enough to make me gag. He was mighty good looking but horrible on the inside.
"You will find yourself at a great loss should you continue to drag her anymore." The relief that flooded my body was probably audible. Justin was standing two steps behind us and his voice didn't fail to bring Chase to a halt.
He didn't let go of my hand but eyed Justin nervously. "What kind of a loss do you speak of?" He questioned and I frowned since he actually seemed like Justin had something he'd wanted. Aside from buying into his venture, there was nothing else he could want that Justin had and Justin wasn't going to give in to that.
"One of great profits. Not let go of her and never even allow your shrewd brain to even think of her let alone say her name and you will find something of benefit to you on your doorsteo come Monday." My hand was instantly let go of by Chase but grasped by Justin who pulled me away from him.
"You dare toy with me, Pearson, and thing will get ugly." Justin nodded in businesslike manner at him and Chase watched Justin for a moment to probably find a c***k as if this was a facade but when he didn't he turned and left.
I watched his departing figure and with each step he took away from me I felt relief. Justin was oddly quiet for so I looked at him and immediately knew from the guilty look in his face what he had done.
"Please tell me you didn't do what I think you did." Praying it wasn't true and hoping to have my thoughts be incorrect, I inquired pacing before him, glad that no one was here besides us.
He didn't look at me but at the floor. "I had to. If you believed he was going to bargain with you and take just what you owe him then you clearly don't know the Wrights." His sombre tone made me quit pacing and focus on him.
This plan could possibly ruin his business. He knew that! "You can't just risk your lifes hard work for my freedom." He scoffed turning his face to the side. "That was supposed to be my father's worry." My voice dropped to almost a whisper when I said that to hide the hurt but he heard it because when my hand reached his cheek, his eyed me tenderly. "Not yours." I bit back a shiver when his lips met my palm cupping his cheek.
It truly was going to pain me to bid him farewell when the time came but I had to. I knew he wouldn't hurt me but I also know that he can't give me what I want and I didn't want it to come to me asking him for it and having to be told that I was warned from the get go.
My hand left his cheek and he let out a sigh. "Do you want to leave yet?" I asked him and he shot me an incredulous look at the lack of interest for this night already.
"You've worked so hard for this night and you already want to leave." He frowned then shook his head in disapproval. "We haven't even danced yet." He said with a smirk and I couldn't say anything else because his arm wrapped around my waist and ushered me hastily into the door and on the dance floor.
I laughed for most of it since my feet didn't touch the ground. His arms wound around my back and he effortlessly swayed us slowly to the sound of the music coming from the indoor balconies. The smile that played along his lips the entire time was something I've never seen before. It was real and truly a reflection of happiness at this moment.
It filled me with glee to see him like this. My hands wrapped around him tightly when the music transitioned to an upbeat and sort of hip vibe. Much to my surprise, everyone around us was over joyed at the change and left the slowdance and just let loose.
Justin still didn't let me go but changed his steps with me, chuckling as I laughed. If happiness had a definition, it would be this moment for me with this sensible man at my side dancing like complete idiots. I was silence and I watched him in absolute awe being drawn to him like a moth to a burning flame.
He slowed down when my hands wrapped in his hair, pulling a little so his face was near mine and dropped my lips to meet his. Justin froze for a moment and then as if forgetting all else, he kissed me back with all the happiness he was feeling. It was pure bliss.
I broke away from him breathless and flustered while his gaze only grew darker. The sing came to an end and before I knew it we were out into the night one moment and the next I was willingly being lead to a room that wasn't mine.
We were all deep kisses from the time the house door was unlocked. His hands travelled to my bare thigh exposed by the slit of the dress. He gave me a nudge to raise my legs and wrap around him. Hands in his thick hair, lips against his full ones, and out tongues dancing wildly, he settled on his bed with me still in his lap.
His heart was thudding rapidly in his chest and I could feel it since my hand rested against it. My hand trailed to the top button of his shirt and paused. Justin drew our lips apart making me let out a groan. He was breathless, his words coming out jagged and heavy with desire as he spoke. "Are you sure, Scarlett?"
His eyes sought mine, which I knew was equally cloudy as his, for any trace of apprehension and I was sure he'd find none. I didn't answer him in words, instead I lowered my lips to his again and felt the satisfied smirk on them.
My dress and his shirt was removed in an instant before we were flipped and his broad figure towered over me. He was gentle and taking his time running his hand over every curve and inch of my skin. His head lowered to my neck dropping warm open-mouthed kisses and a heat flared within myself.
"You're so damn beautiful, Scarlett." He mummered against my collar bone but I could say much since a gasp escaped me when his mouth covered the bud peaking under the material of my b*a. It shot waves of anticipation down my body and a greater need was building up.
"Justin, please." I begged and he groaned sounding pained. His arms rested on either side of my face as he brought his forehead to rest against mine.
"Okay. I'll stop." I narrowed my eyes in frustration and unquenched pleasure at his care to tease me at this moment. He was aware that that wasn't what I meant and he smirked. The cheek of him!
My face heated up not caring to ask again. Several minutes passed and he just stayed like that with his body pressing me into his bed, his forehead resting against mine while he watched me.
I was about to ask him to let me go but his lips dropped to mine for short second. "You're like everything I've ever lost come back to me." At first I thought it was the l**t speaking but the candor displayed in his brown orbs contradicted that.
He didn't let me speak after that. Neither of us had much time to say anything as we just embraced what was to happen and relished every single moment of it.
From the deepness of sleep, I turned only to be pulled closer to the warm figure beside me. For a moment I thought that he was awake but when I looked at his face, he was sound asleep.
My cheeks heated up as all the memories came flooding back. He didn't take anything slow after that and when I could no longer take it and begged him for release, he willingly obliged and slowly entered me. The look on his face when I gasped at the intrusion was still stuck in my head when the realization quickly hit his muzzy brain. He hadn't hurt me at all but he found it necessary to apologise.
I studied his now peaceful face, my hand resting against his stubbly jaw, and recalled how his forehead creased as he frowned with his jaw clenched when he found his end soon after me. It was truly the best experience of my life.
The hand that was wrapped around my bare body pulled me closer to him. "You really shouldn't have this much energy to be awake right now." He nuzzled my neck gently, pushing me onto my back then rested his head on my shoulder with his eyes still closed.
I looked at the wall clock and counted the hours that I had left and they weren't many so I said what the heck and kissed him elliciting a deep groan from him. "Round three?" His eyes flew open at the words I mumbled against his lips which made me giggle at his readiness.
My heart so desperately hoped that I could stay here forever, surrounded by the happiness and serenity of it all but somethings just couldn't be.
