VICKI FUMBLED AROUND the sides of the chair but couldn’t find any straps. What a novice she was! As the stewardess came up the aisle, Vicki embarrassedly touched her blue sleeve. “Where’s the belt, please?” Cool hands and a smiling face bent over her. “Here you are.” Vicki was sitting on it. Vicki took the two wide straps, which were fastened to the arms of the chair, and buckled them firmly across her waist. As she leaned to wave again to her father, deep-throated roars startled her. The motors had awakened, the propellers ahead spun and flashed. The whole plane started to vibrate, as if it were alive. Vicki’s blood surged with excitement— throbbed and pulsed with this mighty plane. Now the engines sang louder, more insistently. The passengers, strapped in, settled back in their seat
