The Kiss

Sophia was not naive neither was she new to the charm of men. She had male friends and watched and read occasional romance books and movies. But the charisma and charm exuding from the man that walked in was overwhelming to say the least. Richard is a tall, dark and imposing man with really broad shoulders that even his three-piece suit couldn’t hide and a sharp jawline. This was the first time Sophia was this attracted to a man. As he walked straight towards them, she was drawn by his obsidian black eyes. If felt like he was looking straight at her, like he could read her mind and know all her secrets with just one glance. He came to a stop in front of the woman and said “I’m back mom.” “Welcome back son. It’s been a while. How was Europe.” “Good. Really good in fact. Business went well.” “Well that’s good to hear. At least now you can rest. You’ve been traveling for business these past few months.” Rising up and going to her son, she puts her hands on his face and pulls him to her. Whispering into his ear, she asks “How have you been sleeping? Better I hope?” And because Sophia was standing close, she heard the question and wondered why he doesn’t seem to sleep well. He gave an equally whispered answer and turned around to leave. “See you for dinner later son” Sophia stared at his receding back and wondered why he looked so familiar. There was something about him that strikes her. Turning once again to her benefactor, she thanked her and announced that she had to leave. “I was just wondering where my luggage was. I don’t want to be in your hair and I really am grateful for your everything.” “Nonsense, it’s late already, you aren’t leaving here this late. Just relax, dinner is in an hour.” Patting the space next to her, she says “Come, come sit next to me. I need your company.” And so for the next hour, Sophia discussed, laughed and gisted with the women. It felt really nice to be treated as a human and not a servant for a change. Later at dinner, Sophia was able to observe the man who had walked in earlier and she came to a realization. She had definitely seen him on the news and her step mom and sis had been excited about him. She just needs to remember what about. Dinner went really well and soon after everyone retired to their different rooms. On getting to her allocated room, Sophia saw that her luggage was already there. She changed her clothes and fell asleep immediately she got into bed. ********** Early the next morning, Sophia got up, cleaned up and took her bag downstairs. She wanted to say bye before leaving. She sat down and began to think about what her next steps will be. She had to go to a place where her family wouldn’t be able to find her. Lost in thoughts about where she would go from there, she didn’t hear when he walked in. He stood and watched as the unfamiliar girl sat in his mother’s living room. She was chewing her lips and obviously lost in deep thoughts. The view of her sitting on the couch deep in thought struck something in him. She looked so beautiful with her long strawberry blonde hair cascading over her oval face. His roaming eyes landed on her puckered pink lips. Although the said face was bare of any makeup she looked like a goddess. She was exactly his type. Beautiful but not overwhelmingly so. She has a subtle charm around her that called his name. He would have to find out more about this mysterious girl that was in his house. Hearing footsteps coming down the stairs, he glanced to see his mother making her way downstairs. Upon seeing him, her face stretched in a wide smile. He made his way towards her “Morning mother. Trust your night was good.” “Morning Richard. I slept well. Did you?” Sighting Sophia, she said “Oh yes you haven’t met Sophia yet. Come, come.” She pulled his hand and dragged him towards the lady, whose name he just found out was Sophia. Sophia noticed them and rose up to greet them. “Good morning ma. Thanks for yesterday ma. I’m really grate……” “It’s fine. You say thanks too much. You haven’t officially met my son. This is Richard Wilson, the head of the Wilson empire. And you can just call me Sheila.” She interrupted. Turning to Richard, she says “Richard, this is Sophia.” Stretching forth his hand in a handshake, Richard says “It’s nice to meet you.” Sophia looked shocked at what she just heard. “By head of the Wilson empire do you mean….?” Seeing the look of affirmation from Sheila, she was thoroughly surprised. No wonder, it all makes sense now. The opulence and apparent wealth of these people was too much to be ordinary and the fact that they were the Wilsons made perfect sense. And she could now remember why Richard’s face looked familiar, she had seen his picture when her stepmom was trying to matchmake her daughter with him. Speaking of Richard, his hand was still outstretched, jolting out of her reverie, she shook his hand and said “ it’s nice to meet you too. Thanks for your hospitality.” “You have no one but my mother to thank.” Turning to his mom, he said “I’m off to work, see you later.” “I could tell you to eat breakfast or take a day off but you won’t listen so see you later, have a good day at work.” Sheila said to him. Chuckling he kissed her cheek and hugged her goodbye. Sophia looked at his retreating back and felt a sense of loss. She was at loss at what she was feeling but counted it as nothing. ********* A few hours later, Sophia found herself in tears talking to Sheila. She recounted everything that had happened to her the past six years. Sheila was comforting her with tears in her own eyes as well. Earlier that day, Sophia had planned to leave immediately after breakfast to be polite. But one thing led to another and Sophia found herself being interrogated about her life and why she was looking so sad at the grave site. After Sheila applied pressure, she found herself opening up about her struggles. “Don’t worry my dear. I will find a solution to it for you.” Sophia stared at her in surprise, she wasn’t expecting her to offer to find a solution for her. She thanked her good fortune for meeting Sheila at such a low point of her life. Sophia was asked to rest at home while Sheila ran a few errands as she still looked pale. All thoughts of leaving now abandoned, Sophia took a nap and rested well. After waking up, she went downstairs in search of food but sheet with the broad chest of someone instead. She had collided into Richard’s chest and as she stared into his eyes to apologize, she became tongue tied. They both stared at each other with apparent attraction for each other. Richard made the first move by clearing his throat and moving away, Sophia apologized and made to leave but felt his hand on her arm stopping her. He grabbed her and pulled her towards his chest. Sophia, surprised and confused, opened her mouth to talk but was stopped by the feel of his mouth on her. They stayed like that kissing for a few minutes before the sound of a person clearing her throat was heard.
